GE is on! Remainers how will you vote?

Just that really! The General Election is on, either 11th Dec or a few days before but it's going to happen now that Labour have agreed. Tactical voting websites are being prepared as we speak.

If you are a remainer, who will you vote for?

(And if any leavers lurk here, will you vote for Tories or Brexit party?)

We’ve an snp Mp at the moment and I really like him he’s great, BUT I feel strongly as a disabled & mentally ill person on benefits, awaiting pip decision, dreading switch to UC and who hasn’t received ANY mh support/treatment in over 6 months meaning I’m also unable to access support/treatment for my physical ill health, it’s NOT just about brexit, it’s about the way tories are AGAIN destroying the country:

Despicable, punitive attitude to welfare
MASSIVELY Underfunding public services across the board
Refusing to implement a real living wage
Doing NOTHING to create jobs
Maintaining crazily housing prices
Fuelling hate and bigotry
Promoting and encouraging elitism...

They NEED to GO!!

“austerity is a much bigger issue for me” exactly and I think that’s true for many!

As I said snp here at the moment but previously a safe labour seat. I’ll be checking the tactical voting advice on getting tories out, but I suspect I’ll be voting labour.

I’m not a particular Corbyn fan but I don’t hate him either and think the MSM have done a sterling job vilifying him. Which they would to ANY labour leader as they’re owned/run by Tory supporters, I think a lot of ordinary people don’t know or forget that!

Lib Dems especially under the despicable swinson are as several pps have noted nothing but yellow tories with a side order of anti-feminism.

That they are the only party clearly remain is I think a cynical ploy on their part to collect votes at a time when some voters may vote purely on that issue. I would urge any of you tempted to vote for them because of that, but who possibly also have concerns re Nhs, social care, welfare benefits etc to look at their voting record and manifesto relating to other policies that may affect you and yours before deciding for definite.

Green Party, well they’re not really string enough to be likely to get in as lead or even coalition party anyway, I like some of their policies but the twaw thing pisses me off too (and yes I know all parties on that particular bandwagon but greens and lib dems worst ones on this)

If an snp win here were statistically a result that would remove the tories I’d happily vote for them, as I say current Mp is great, the Scots moan about certain aspects of the snp and changes up here, but quite honestly that seems to me to mainly come from Scots who haven’t lived in UK outside of Scotland. I spent most of my life living in England and Wales, returning to Scotland post divorce, and obviously I’m also still in touch with and discuss such things with friends in England/wales.

Scotland isn’t perfect but there’s an awful lot up here that’s a lot better than south of the border! I think Scots are comparing Scotland now to scotland at x time which I understand, and I’m not saying we shouldn’t argue for things to improve again but if as a Scot you think things are bad here I can assure you in many ways things are worse in England!

One aspect of brexit which is rarely discussed thoroughly outside of Scotland except on mn is the possibility of it increasing the likelihood of Scotland going independent. I voted no in indyref, but quite honestly if there’s another indyref and a bad or no deal brexit is pushed through I can absolutely see me voting yes next time and that’s a feeling I’ve seen/heard other Scots I know saying.

I don’t think NI going independent or reunifying with Republic of Ireland is a completely unrealistic idea either.

A bad brexit could well lead to end of the union.

“Can anyone advise me who to vote for tactically to get rid of the tories??” There are websites and apps, I’ve looked at a few but they don’t seem to be up and running for this yet. It depends where you live, you enter postcode on most of them to get a result.

Can I PLEASE urge those of you thinking you may not bother voting due to the timing or who have friends/family who may have difficulty voting at this time to seriously consider the options of postal and proxy voting.

I too believe the timing is intended to capitalise on people not wanting or being able to get out and vote if the weather/conditions are bad. It’s a particular issue for the impoverished elderly and disabled who I think are understandably less likely to vote Tory. I reckon boris is BANKING on it being difficult for those people to vote. So let’s prove him wrong!

Offer your elderly/disabled loved ones your help in posting their vote or acting as their proxy.

I have today began making arrangements to have a proxy vote as I’m housebound, but like hell am i losing my chance to vote as a result!

May also apply to students and other mobile voters.

Re women being “better off” under Tory are you fucking kidding me?!

Rape clause
2 child limit
Gynae services decimated
Closing women’s refuges
Decimating women’s employment rights
Closure of sure start centres
Women nearing 86% of the burden of austerity
Pushing women into prostitution...

As for the trans issues, they’ve outright said they are committed to removing medical assessment for gender identification recognition, that they want to push for self identification and making it easier for trans people to have official documentation that doesn’t state their gender or states their preferred gender, those mners who haven’t been following the difficulties this poses for girls and women (especially vulnerable ones) may not see this as problematic but those of us who have will be well aware of potential and even in some cases current problems this will cause.

Just because the tories have been less vocal, less public about this issue doesn’t mean they are less “woke” and more sympathetic to the problems this will cause girls and women. Far from it. So if you’re a voter concerned about women’s rights in general and self identification in particular then the tories aren’t the party for you.

“Parliament is a sexist, misogynist place and so is the world. If you’re deludedly waiting for an ideal political party that respects women - you will have to wait several hundred years” I’m afraid I have to agree so it’s a case of voting for the least bad on this topic.

minesagin37 · 29/10/2019 17:15

Whichever party keeps a loony Tory out. Probably Labour here but if it was Lib Dem's or Monster Raving Loony Id vote for them.

SheruMoo · 29/10/2019 17:17

I'm a life long labour voter but I won't vote for them now given their ambition to abolish private schools. I have an autistic son in a private school and I can't vote against my own child. So Lib Dem's it is.

lazylinguist · 29/10/2019 17:19

I want to vote Lib Dems as a remainer, and voted for them last GE, but I too am disturbed by their attitude to women's rights. I live in what is a pretty much Lib Dem safe seat though.

KennDodd · 29/10/2019 17:22

I bet the Tories win.

FantailsFly · 29/10/2019 17:38

To posters saying if you are a leaver you have to vote LD - it doesn’t necessarily work that way. In my (remain) constituency that splits the liberal vote and Brexity Tory scrapes in again.

Bickles · 29/10/2019 17:41

Remainer and usually vote Tory
Will be going LibDem.

Jellykat · 29/10/2019 17:45

Tories will win, other parties are being exceedingly foolish agreeing to a GE!
Remainer here, lifelong Labour supporter but will go Plaid Cymru this time.. (in Wales)

MarchionessOfCholmondeley · 29/10/2019 17:55

Lib Dem.

Although they came distant third in 2017 we have an outstanding candidate this time. In the local election this spring he overturned the tory majority by a huge margin and has been very visible in his new role. It's a long shot, but there is a outside chance of him ousting the tory

MarchionessOfCholmondeley · 29/10/2019 18:04

My mother was a dyed in the wool, true blue tory county councillor for many years will also voting lib dems for the first time

Frouby · 29/10/2019 18:07

Fuck knows.

Live in a labour area, with a useless MP.

Was a reluctant remainer and lifelong labour voter. Can't vote Tory. Can't currently vote for Labour. LibDem a bit shit. Green more shit.

WarwickLife · 29/10/2019 18:07

2 points:

  1. If you are remain, and would normally vote Labour but detest Corbyn PLEASE don't just vote for a random. Do your research and vote tactically to ensure Tories don't gain as a result of your decision. This is a good place to start: tactical.vote and you can keep checking as the election draws nearer.

Pay attention if you live in any of the key marginal seats on this map:
www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/sep/07/campaigners-second-eu-referendum-plan-mass-tactical-vote

  1. IF YOU DON'T WANT THE NHS TO BE SOLD TO THE USA THEN DO NOT VOTE CONSERVATIVE!

FadingStar · 29/10/2019 18:13

Just tried it Warwick. As expected it came up Sinn Fein. It's a safe seat. Just wish they would take up their damn seats. Cross their fingers at the oath.

Ardnassa · 29/10/2019 18:13

Former Tory voter here. Given its shift to the right and the fact I voted Remain, would not vote for them again. So Lib Dem. Was always an Orange Booker LD really.

Also I personally know several of the new Conservative candidates. Mediocrities, the lot of them. And several former Remainers doing some hilarious intellectual contortions to justify their new careerist, pro-Brexit manifesto stance. Genuinely terrified if any of them get in!

pikapikachu · 29/10/2019 18:16

It's currently a Tory seat but I'd happily vote tactically to oust the current MP.

itsgettingweird · 29/10/2019 18:20

Remainer Labour voter here who has voted Lib Dem locally a few rimes as candidate was amazing.

But I don't want to vote labour.
Don't like Greens views on non environmental stuff.
Not sure I'd trust Lib Dem's to run country.

So guess the answer is Fuck knows .

Do they have a party?!

itsgettingweird · 29/10/2019 18:23

I'm in a Tory safe seat area though with MP. Our Lib Dem councillor is most effective though!

MarshmallowManiac · 29/10/2019 18:23

Labour as like you Crankyass I vote for the whole party.

itsgettingweird · 29/10/2019 18:27

X posts Warwick

That's given me food for thought as a usual labour voter.
And I think what you said above about extreme labour policies with Lib Dem coalition is interesting and worthwhile looking further into.

Ietthemeatcake · 29/10/2019 18:31

Remainer, I'll be voting Labour. My local Labour MP is excellent and I would not want to risk her being unseated by a Tory. The election is not just about Brexit.

aggitatedstate · 29/10/2019 18:34

Lib Dem. Previous Tory supporter

bellinisurge · 29/10/2019 18:35

I live in a Labour constituency that went massively for Leave.
I despise Corbyn and swore never to vote Labour while he was leader.
At present, my view is, fucknose.

LeslieYep · 29/10/2019 18:48

No clue.
I'm in a super safe Tory seat in a remain area, but he's a staunch remainer. Tory party have tried to oust him.

A vote for him, however good his personal outlook will be a vote for Boris and his policies.
Plus I've never been a Tory voter.

I've avoided labour for a long time because of JC and I don't even know why.

The lib Dems are written off as liars by many, yet other parties have done plenty similar and worse, so it'll be a tactical vote here.

Fizzypoo · 29/10/2019 18:53

I'm voting labour.

I moved into a usual tory or lib dems area, each election one or the other gets in. I can't bring myself to vote lib dems even if it means torys get in. I don't even want to vote labour because of womens rights but will vote just to have my vote counted as a vote against a hard Brexit.

KennDodd · 29/10/2019 18:54

@FadingStar

I wish Sinn Fein would step down, just for this election, and ask their supporters to vote for a candidate they recommend. I get why they don't take their seats (if only the Brexit party had the same attitude). I think Brexit is their best and quickest chance for a united Ireland though so it's in their interests to let it unfold.
