Westministenders: Sub-Prime Minister at large

BigChocFrenzy · 25/10/2019 13:24

Our Sub-Prime Minister BJ is threatening a govt tantrum strike until he is allowed his Haribo GE on 12 December.

If MPs vote for a GE, he has promised them "more time" to debate the WAB,
but that would only be from 29 October to 7 November

  • ridiculously inadequate for such complex legislation -
before Parliament is automatically dissolved for the 25 sitting days before a GE.

The GE debate starts Monday 2:30 pm in the HoC
Corbyn says he'll agree to a GE if BJ takes No Deal off the table

BUT wIth this WA,
No deal cannot 100% be taken off the table whilst the Tories are in office:

they could still No Deal after transition ends on 31 December 2020,
if they don't request a transition by July.

We don't know when the EU will give their decision on an extension, or what it will be:

The EU may decide only after the HoC vote
- in which case MPs would be voting "blindly"

Tusk, Merkel & most other leaders want to grant the Flextension until 31 January,
but Macron & a few others want to give a short extension of only 2-4 weeks, to pressure MPs to pass the WA in November

  • in which case the GE would take place shortly after Brexit, which would be a gift to BJ.

A 12 December GE would also cause serious logistical problems for local council officials:

Apart from their poll station bookings clashing with Xmas bookings for church halls & schools,

they are legally required to send out all the polling cards based on the current electoral roll,
then at the GE, check names against the new electoral roll which must be updated on 1 December

The Rebel Alliance want a long extension, so they have time to add amendments to the WAB,
e.g. a CU, the Level Playing Field agreement in May's WA, maybe even a PV
So many may want to vote against a GE before that ..... but what does Corbyn want ?

BJ as PM could still change the date of any GE after he has agreed to it, if it suits him.

What does BJ want ?
Alice Cooper said it:

"I'm your top prime cut of meat, I'm your choice
I wanna be elected
I'm your yankee doodle dandy in a gold Rolls Royce
I wanna be elected
Kids want a savior, don't need a fake
I wanna be elected
We're all gonna rock to the rules that I make
I wanna be elected, elected, elected..."

Chin up, Sos. How's your grand-daughter doing?

Mistigri · 25/10/2019 23:07

It'll be women's rights that go first, btw.

MeganBacon · 25/10/2019 23:09

Misti there really is no need to be so rude, I'm sure you don't get away with that in your apparently professional environment.

The hunky dory line was meant to be in bold - it was Peregrine's line, not mine. Still like to critique it?
Yes I know about Woodford - did not need to google, but am sad for you that this is how you try to look clever.
My argument is that you can't say it's hypocritical and you can't, because you don't know what he believes.
But I'm going to bed now and will leave you all to your anger and aggression and playground bullying.

Mistigri · 25/10/2019 23:10

Flounce alert!

thecatfromjapan · 25/10/2019 23:10

I think you may be right about that.
I see working hours and health and safety going quite quickly. The latter partly through difficulty in enforcing what exists or getting redress when they fail.

thecatfromjapan · 25/10/2019 23:12

It wasn't misti that did the bolding thing. She's not petty and childish. She's very polite.

Mistigri · 25/10/2019 23:14

I actually don't think health and safely will go quickly, because that's something that international investors are increasingly sensitive about. In my industry the very first slide in any presentation is always about safety.

I think women's rights will go first - especially maternity rights, which a lot of employers consider a real inconvenience.

Mistigri · 25/10/2019 23:15

I'm not always polite lol. I don't suffer fools gladly.

Sostenueto · 25/10/2019 23:19

Doing well Catfromjapan thank you for asking. She still suffers from chronic fatique ( now has iron deficient aneamia through steroids) but busy with University applications. She got 1 offer and 1 interview within 5 days of sending UCAS form, going to sit pre interview tests for Cambridge on 30 th October and wishes the GE is after January 17th so she can vote! She is definitely a remainer! Hope all is well with you and your kin CatFlowers

Sostenueto · 25/10/2019 23:22

Best wishes and health to all!Flowers

Mistigri · 25/10/2019 23:23

Very good luck to your GD Sos.

thecatfromjapan · 25/10/2019 23:23

Wow! @ university offer already. And 💐 for the chronic fatigue. I didn't know about that. 🤷‍♀️ Lots of good luck for the Cambridge application, though, and good on her for applying.

thecatfromjapan · 25/10/2019 23:24

🤷‍♀️ was supposed to be a downturned mouth. It's sad to hear.

thecatfromjapan · 25/10/2019 23:30

Misti Well I'm pleased to hear about H & S.
I actually lay awake the other night, thinking about how workers's rights would go.
Maternity rights hit me as a clear loss: they're just not very good in the US.
And I can remember maternity rights being extended.
Plus, I remember my own experiences of being pregnant and in vulnerable employment. One job 'disappeared' when I became pregnant - and I had no recourse to object, and another job I applied for when pregnant and (obviously) didn't get.

But I started thinking back to what I remember from my early working life. One friend died in a H and S incident. He was young and in a virtually compelled job (YTS). When you are so vulnerably rmployed, it is hard to ensure H and S standards are met - even if legislation is there.

I started feeling so gloomy.

Sostenueto · 25/10/2019 23:31

ITP is better platelets holding at about 80,000 but the steroid treatment has caused very low red blood cells which is causing fatique. If tablets don't work they may give blood. But OK otherwise.
Yes we were surprised at speed of offers etc coming in. That first offer only 35 places on that course so double surprise she got a place!.
Have to traipse up north on 6 th with dgd for interview November 5 th. But hope she gets another offer. The other 2 will probably be Xmas before we know whether offers will come. It is stressful process!.

Sostenueto · 25/10/2019 23:35

Health and safety will go first because firms always think it is expensive. Then maternity pay. Whatever is more expensive will go first. At end of day I wonder how long it will be before leavers twig that Boris the animal does not smell so nice as they thought when workers rights diminish rapidly?

Sostenueto · 25/10/2019 23:37

Good luck to all going g through university application process!

Sostenueto · 25/10/2019 23:39

Thanks mistyFlowers

thecatfromjapan · 25/10/2019 23:42

Obvious point, but what I expect to see is divergence, with good, EU standards maintained in prestige jobs, and rapid erosion for those not in prestige jobs. Starting with most vulnerably employed and moving on to low prestige jobs. And a lot of women are employed in those locations.

Sostenueto · 25/10/2019 23:46

I couldn't stand Smirky Cameron or repetitive May but Johnson is beyond insufferable! How he can play with a whole country makes me sick.
There is so many Tories who act like its a game!
The worst thing is knowing with a very heavy heart that if there is a GE they are odds on to winEnvy ( not envy)

Sostenueto · 25/10/2019 23:50

True Cat we have it now with zero contract very low wages, no holiday or sick pay in the low sector workers.
I asked my did ( a carer of adults with ASD and severe learning difficulties) what her hourly pay was ( she is all of the above) and it us less than I was earning as a dementia carer in 2011!

Sostenueto · 25/10/2019 23:51

So much for a living/ minimum wage!

DarkAtTheEndOfUk · 25/10/2019 23:52

Guardian spreading rumours of people's vote again. I wonder if anything will come of it this time.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 26/10/2019 00:13

Dd told me tonight that her dad thinks bozo is a good man ConfusedThey have very similar personalities really. Abusive, lying narcissists that act like petulant toddlers when they don't get their way. ExH thinks of himself as a good man so it's easy to see why he admires bozo I guess. Mirror image.

@Sostenueto wow, that's fantastic re your granddaughter! Thanks

tobee · 26/10/2019 00:34

Surely if it's not acceptable for professional sports people to bet on matches they are involved in and insider trading a crime etc why are MPs allowed to have outside work, directorships etc where they can financially benefit from policies they've made/voted on? I know they declare interests etc but that's not enough imo.
