DustyDiamond
You aren't even allowed direct debits when you're under 18!

#FakeNews
Yes you are.

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 12:28

In fairness Gribbie. Dusty corrected herself on that further up the thread.

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 12:29

Yay. Blackford. My fave. Hmm

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 12:33

Cripes. It seems that Boris is leaving Oct 31st on the table. Interesting!

ContinuityError · 23/10/2019 12:43

In fairness Gribbie. Dusty corrected herself on that further up the thread.

Not quite - I corrected Dusty.

Not all bank accounts allow under 18s to set up direct debits, but some definitely do.

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 12:45
Hmm
ContinuityError · 23/10/2019 12:50

I also corrected you on “16 yr olds can’t get married”.

Grin
Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 12:54

They can’t. Scotland has devolved powers on that matter so good for scotland. On the whole, UK 16 yr olds still cannot get married without parental consent.

But this is all frankly unecessary pedantry and just clogs up the threads. I do note, that no one has raised my concerns around Jury Duty and parental abuse/coercion and potential bullying of 16 yr olds who would hold the vote.

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 13:02

And can I be arsed to invoke Shamima Begum?

Hmmm. Maybe later Grin

ContinuityError · 23/10/2019 13:03

So you admit you’re wrong on “16 year olds can’t get married” - they absolutely can ( although with parental consent in England, Wales, NI).

Scottish marriage laws are nothing to do with devolved powers either.

RhinoskinhaveI · 23/10/2019 13:09

Boris is leaving on October 31st on the table
That does seem very surprising Epic😮 the idea of getting out on October 31st just doesn't seem credible to me now😣
What do you think his strategy is there?

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 13:10

So you are just going to hammer on at the same pedantic points then?

I’m not. But quite willing to engage on other considered points around the voting age, as oppose to a childish “he said she said” argument.

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 13:11

“What do you think his strategy is there?”

Honestly? Not a fucking clue. I certainly would not be placing money on any potential outcome right now! Grin

RhinoskinhaveI · 23/10/2019 13:15

We certainly are in an 'all bets are off' situation🤦‍♀️

ArseDarkly · 23/10/2019 13:16

What do you think his strategy is there?

I think his strategy is that he thinks Leavers are thick and will stay with him as long as he keeps repeating the mantras. I think he is thick and insulting - genuine question: how can you stand him?

Parker231 · 23/10/2019 13:19

From Sky News - Boris and his pals need to get their stories straight!
“There will be no checks between Northern Ireland and GB” says PM > Steve Barclay said the very opposite in a select committee hearing earlier this week

ContinuityError · 23/10/2019 13:21

Perhaps, epic, if you spout things that are easily disproved, then don’t whine when you get called out on it.

And you may think it’s pedantic, but if a 16 yr old can get married and pay income tax (and I think you’ve finally agreed that they can) then there is a valid argument to be made that they also have a right to vote.

ArseDarkly · 23/10/2019 13:21

Why quote Sky News - Jeremy Corbyn pointed out exactly the same thing at PMQ's

Parker231 · 23/10/2019 13:22

Because I’m looking at Twitter and following Sky News

Fair point.

“Devolved/reserved

2.06 Matters relating to civil partnership, marriage and cohabitation are devolved. Therefore, the Scottish Parliament can make provision on who can marry or enter a civil partnership, the process for registering a civil partnership or marriage, and the rules on ending a marriage or civil partnership. The Scottish Parliament can also make provision on rights and responsibilities of spouses, civil partners and cohabitants in devolved areas (eg on financial provision when the relationship comes to an end).”

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 23/10/2019 13:37

I dont think 16 year olds should be able to get married OR vote

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 13:39

I dont think 16 year olds should be able to get married OR vote

This.

ContinuityError · 23/10/2019 13:44

Epicwaffle the Marriage (Scotland) Act 1977 obviously predates devolution by two decades.

It remains a devolved matter but it is not because of devolution.

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 13:54

For gods sake. Don’t twist my words to suit your personal angle, Hmm that’s not what I said, and you know it, I merely said they WERE devolved. You said they weren’t, then you called me a whiner for making points that could be easily disproved, in return, I called you out on the same behaviour you accused me of.

Enough now, you are just an irritating pedant and I will no longer engage with you on this stupid point scoring, it’s worse than the house of commons. Ultimately it just distracts from healthy debate and clutters the threads for everyone else.

Landlady, it’s tequila time! Wink
