I thought we might appreciate a separate thread for organising meet ups and info :)

I am short of time at the moment, so support in gathering info and linking people together is very much appreciated.

It looks like Parliament (according to a Laura K tweet) will be having a special meeting on that day, even though it's a Saturday, so all the more reason to come along and let them know that we reject the situation and that we especially reject a No Deal Brexit.

I didn't see any of you!!!

But I must have seen you but not recognised you because we stood in Piccadilly and watched the start of the march go past.

What a great day! I feel a lot more positive.

The people were beautiful. Democracy looks beautiful.

I had the biggest smile on my face - even when it rained.
😁

thecatfromjapan · 19/10/2019 19:10

Oh - and I definitely feel inspired to keep pushing for a PV.

I feel quite hopeful now, to be honest.

Experian · 19/10/2019 19:11

It's certainly not over yet!

RHTawneyonabus · 19/10/2019 19:11

@ListeningQuietly I think it was you I saw you the train!

There was a bit of a counter protest outside Lord Moon on the Mall (it’s a ‘spoons) but someone led a people’s vote chant and completely drowned them out.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/10/2019 19:19

It was so funny to see you Sovie. Thanks for doing a recce of the loos. They were very plush.

On our way home now. They were packing up the main stage and fence. It all felt very odd given if the Tories hadn't exited right we may have still been there.

Thank you very much all you marching Mumsneters

Mistigri · 19/10/2019 19:31

Yes indeed! Thank you all and have safe journeys home.

thecatfromjapan · 19/10/2019 20:33

By the way, I think I spotted Steve McGann at the front of the march.

(I like trying to spot famous people on the marches. 😁)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/10/2019 20:37

Well done everyone today. We made a difference.

OP posts:
PancakeAndKeith · 19/10/2019 20:37

Yes he was, well a McGann anyway, and Patrick Stewart.

NationMcKinley · 19/10/2019 20:44

God I love Patrick Stewart. Defo one of my Fantasy Dinner Party guests Wink

I went along and was so happy to be part of it. It was only a short journey for me, but thanks so much to all of you who got up at the crack of dawn and travelled long distances to be with us.

I saw it all. Children, dogs, Welsh dragons, Scottish flags, Labour, Lib Dems, Green Party, Tories against Brexit, Patrick Stewart, the Jane Austen fandom, a helium balloon in the shape of a unicorn, and many more, we were all there and united in our peaceful protest.

There was a shouty, British bulldog type in Trafalgar Square who’s spiel was limited to

  • We won
  • There’s more of us than you

People just looked and laughed TBH

It pretty much summed up why we are where we are - outside of ‘we won, you lost’ leavers can’t actually explain why we’re still pursuing this

stayathomegardener · 19/10/2019 21:44

Am really conflicted on numbers.

Our two coaches from Chester had less on than last time but then I read 42 more coaches overall travelled.

Less people from the tube and in the run up to the Dorchester but balanced by many seasoned marchers going direct to parliament square some by tube and not on foot.

Seemed to be able to walk more freely instead of hours standing but as said people joined at the front and also march was started early this time and in reality I only got perhaps 600 yards further than previously. Almost to the first big screen before having to leave for the coach.

My gut feeling is less than last time... I think.

Sunnyuplands · 19/10/2019 21:51

Of course no leavers are there, at the moment people are still expecting to leave.
If Boris fails....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/10/2019 21:53

You saw Patrick Stewart Rosina? /faints.

Helmetbymidnight · 19/10/2019 21:53

i saw a leaver, all done out in a union jack suit, it was all quite amicable but then remainers arent usually the ones sending death threats etc.

ZigAZigAhh · 19/10/2019 21:57

We had a fabulous time - joined at Trafalgar Square and marched for about half an hour until DS (4) and DD (2) started to crack and demand to be taken to the Transport Museum (saw a fair few Bollocks to Brexit e-ticket-wearing people there too during the course of the afternoon!). I felt quite emotional - it felt so comforting to know that in what feels like a very difficult, isolating and uncertain journey, there are so many wonderful people who are happy to go to the effort of making their voices heard and standing up for what they believe in. DS was very interested in why we were there, and I’m hoping this is the beginning of a life of interest and engagement in politics. It’s so very important to be aware of and interested in what is happening in the world.

RHTawney we saw the “counter-protest” at Lord Moons, but they were very swiftly drowned out by extra chanting so if anything I think they did the march a favour!

I was blown away by the humour and creativity evident in so many of the signs we saw along the way, and this one made me chuckle...

ZigAZigAhh · 19/10/2019 21:58

Argh - “demandED” and “sticker” not “e-ticket”!!

Peregrina · 19/10/2019 21:59

My gut feeling is fewer than last time, but then we started three hours after the official start, whereas last time, the official start was later, and we were there at the beginning.

PortiaCastis · 19/10/2019 22:03

Sorry I couldn't march this time as OH v.poorly but I was there in spirit and well done everybody

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/10/2019 22:04

I think they got us going much quicker to keep things safer.

BadKitten Not close up, sadly, just on the screen during his speech from where I was in Whitehall. I got past Downing Street but not into Parliament Square.

Meanwhile, there was a pro-Brexit march in Manchester...

...estimated to be about 100 of them.
