Westminstenders: Pro Rogues

The Pro Rogues plan to prorogue again this week.

The Queen might be challenged to sack Johnson. Or he might be forced to extend.

It depends on which newspaper you read. Either way it strikes you that no one really knows what's going to happen...

European Parliament president David Sassoli is briefing reporters after meeting Boris Johnson.

He says talks were so frank he “felt like I was in a TV talk show”.
Don’t think that’s entirely good.

Sassoli says Johnson told him the UK will leave on 31 Oct and will not seek an extension.

Sassoli says Johnson’s plans as they stand “are not an actual proposal”.
Nothing is definite, “everything is left to the future”.

Sassoli says Johnson does not seem to want a deal.
“This is extremely painful for us.”

Says his course carries great risks, especially for island of Ireland.
This is all UK’s responsibility, he says.

This is an utterly brutal briefing.

Sassoli not sounding very impressed with Boris Johnson.

Says the PM was unable to discuss a coherent proposal, and at one point told him “I should not be sad”.
< WTF ? Confused >

Sassoli says he is “terribly worried”.
< join the club, mate >

Sassoli is asked if he really believes Johnson wants a deal.

He says Johnson repeatedly said UK was leaving on 31 October and had nothing concrete to say on new ideas for a deal.
“I think each and every one of us can reach our own conclusions,” he says.

That sounds like a “No”.

Not sure the UK can cope with any crisis, if this lack of speed is how things work at the topmost levels Confused
Another ridiculous waste of time

Patrick Kidd@patrick_kidd

Fascinating how slowly government works.

Jo Johnson was sworn in as a privy counsellor at Buckingham Palace tonight,
which he was entitled to as a member of his brother's cabinet,

even though he resigned from it a month ago
and is stepping down as an MP

Arcuri denies getting £10,000 from a London Mayor’s grant because of their friendship:

“No. The reason they liked me was because I had a big mouth” Confused

I've been feeling overwhelmed today with life's demands and the LeaveEU poster is the tipping point. I'm going to get into my pjs and watch crap tv under a blanket on my sofa.

We need to keep looking after ourselves.

The pre-Raphs were a bunch of misogynistic, self-absorbed narcissists IMHO.

Lizzie Siddall was a talented artist but went unrecognised.

Truth is, ^ power is ebbing away from Downing St.^

Suspect the shape of our imminent politics now all depends now on the length of extension EU offers.
< "Take back control" 🤦🏻‍♀️ We've never had so little as now >

If it’s January an election must beckon v soon.
If it’s longer (June), there will be greater momentum for a referendum.

< and if it's November, then it's May's WA or No Deal >

DGR If I lived in Ham & High I'd be a lot more mee-jah richer than I am! Grin

SwedishEdith · 08/10/2019 20:05

Just clicked on Brexit Arms - where's it gone? thread out of curiosity and see a BA thread has been pulled for sock-puppetry. Quelle surprise. I only looked at a few in the early days and they were full then of name-changers who denied they were - Doorbellgate. 😁

Whatever happened to surferjet?

tobee · 08/10/2019 20:08

I know it sounds like a dereliction of my democratic duty, but apart from anything, I really can't be arsed with the idea of a GE at the start of New Year. I'm sure I'm not alone in this though.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/10/2019 20:10

Ooh. So it's all from the imagination of one bonkers leaver creating a whole thread on their own?! That wouldn't surprise me, actually.

Happy birthday, Hoooo. 🎂

BigChocFrenzy · 08/10/2019 20:10

V unusual to have a winter GE:

We had February GEs in 1950 and 1974 (I only remember the latter ! Grin)

I can't find records of any November or January GE, let alone the madness of a December one.

tobee · 08/10/2019 20:11

DGR If I lived in Ham & High I'd be a lot more mee-jah richer than I am!

👆strike out fail Hmm

SwedishEdith · 08/10/2019 20:13

No-one will want a GE between now and next Spring. Once October is over, it already starts to feel like the run up to Xmas. Jan and Feb are too cold so neither party will want to campaign - and Tories will worry about icy streets and flu epidemics hitting their core voters.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/10/2019 20:15

Which leaves BoZo limping on while the no deal effects just keep getting worse. GE 4+ months post-no deal? Good luck with that, you stupid twat.

tobee · 08/10/2019 20:15

and Tories will worry about icy streets and flu epidemics hitting their core voters.

Changed my mind! Bring it on! Smile

kingsassassin · 08/10/2019 20:16

And students not sorting out postal votes or being willing to travel back to vote...

tobee · 08/10/2019 20:18

And students not sorting out postal votes or being willing to travel back to vote...

Hmmm. Swings and roundabouts Sad

WhatwouldScoobyDoo · 08/10/2019 20:18

Bigchoc that Sassoli interview is so stressful.

How can BJ say we will still be leaving on 31/10?

tobee · 08/10/2019 20:19

Because Dominic says so.

SwedishEdith · 08/10/2019 20:21

Anyway, what do we think is Cummings health issue? What's his op for? Is he playing fast and loose because he won't be around for very long?

NoWordForFluffy · 08/10/2019 20:21

Students can register at uni and vote there. They don't have to travel or get a postal vote.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/10/2019 20:22

If the govt resigns / collapses and the rebels can't take over, we'd have to have a GE, whatever the time of year
It would add to the general feeling of things being chaotic

Not sure I should speculate on Cummings and medical issue, but I always wondered if it's his eyes.
