The Pro Rogues plan to prorogue again this week.

The Queen might be challenged to sack Johnson. Or he might be forced to extend.

It depends on which newspaper you read. Either way it strikes you that no one really knows what's going to happen...

How can this week be the week?

I watched Newsnight last night. This programme is helping me make sense of it all. Most people they interviewed on there seemed to be of the opinion that the government will push us right to the deadline on 31st and then Boris will resign/push for an election or no deal. Either way nothing is going to happen until 31st is it?

DGRossetti · 08/10/2019 09:33

For some reason, I like "Absolute spannas" from one of the commentators ...

But "fuck business" ....

Dmitry Grozoubinski@DmitryOpines (fmr Australian trade negotiator)

A very expensive question facing UK businesses: do they believe the government when it vows to leave on October 31st, or when it vows to obey the law requiring it seek (and not thwart) an extension?

DGRossetti · 08/10/2019 10:08

I watched Newsnight last night. This programme is helping me make sense of it all.

I'm not a massive fan of the BBC on news coverage at the moment. Especially brexit. I think they need to stick to mashups of cakes and dancing.

I thought No. 10 was going to cut down on pesky leaks. It is like a fecking sieve.

Yet another leak from yet another unnamed No. 10 source , who evidently has no concept of how the EU works. Usual bully boy rules being used. Remember this is the sort of man who wins his divorces (then wonders why his children don't speak to him).

I thought No. 10 was going to cut down on pesky leaks. It is like a fecking sieve.

I'm sure with some expert advice they could.

Oh, hang on ...

FT piece started: "Johnson aims to punish EU states that back Brexit delay ...."

DGRossetti · 08/10/2019 10:32

I reckon BoJos behaviour is an attempt to get ahead of the oncoming DeepFake juggernaut that will make future politics ... interesting.

Also explains Trumps behaviour ...

I am sure the EU27 are all shaking in their boots. Dom knows where they live. He can write really shouty letters in green ink. He knows where to put a horse’s head if they don’t do what they are told. Classic Dom.

DGRossetti · 08/10/2019 10:38

I am sure the EU27 are all shaking in their boots.

If they are, it's from laughing.

However, I strongly suspect they are blissfully unaware of the Borisocalypse facing them, since it will exist only in the mastubatory fantasies of extreme Brexiteers and the papers they read.

CendrillonSings · 08/10/2019 10:41

Meanwhile, from the pollster that has produced the worst results for the Conservatives, putting them neck-and-neck with Labour at the time of the Supreme Court decision two weeks ago: that stern judicial rebuke seems to have done the Tories some lasting damage...

Westminster voting intention:

CON: 33% (+6)
LAB: 27% (-)
LDEM: 19% (-1)
BREX: 13% (-4)

But, but... the spider brooch!

BigChocFrenzy · 08/10/2019 10:45

"Johnson allies aim to ‘punish’ EU states that back Brexit delay"

I've seen a few reports of this in different papers, but they don't see to point out the fatal flaws

The Govt are IDIOTS ! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Under A50, an extension can only be unanimous

So he's going to punish all our neighbours - 27 countries in a market of 450 million people, about $18 trillion GDP
where about 45% of our export go

who at worst would just have their UK trade damaged, whereas the UK has replaced hardly any of the 40 FTAs with 70 non-EU countries,
or the 800 other trading / recognition deals with the other countries in the world.

ComRes poll for Telegraph.

Con 33% +3
Lab 27% -2
Lib 19% +2
BXP 13% -
^ There are 2006 respondents in the original poll. 25% who are don’t know/may not vote/Won’t say are taken out to give the above figures.

If we add in the don’t knows...

Con 28%
Lab 23%
Lib 15%
BXP 11%
DK 14%

64% of the DK are female.

There is a turnout weighted table in there that gives the Con only a four point lead.

So Con definitely ahead but not quite as wild with the figures as the Opinium one.

FT piece started: "Johnson aims to punish EU states that back Brexit delay ...."

That’s going to be tricky, give the EU states negotiate as a bloc?

unwravellingagain · 08/10/2019 10:50

@DGRossetti The Ian Hislop programme on fake news last night was quite interesting on that.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 08/10/2019 10:50

Oh do bugger off you great snoutband CendrillonSings

JustAnotherPoster00 · 08/10/2019 10:50

Seriously Basil the poll analysis makes me calmer for some reason, wish the MSM would do such non biased analysis

DGRossetti · 08/10/2019 10:51

The Ian Hislop programme on fake news last night was quite interesting on that

It's in my weekend watching stack ...

BigChocFrenzy · 08/10/2019 10:53

Cendrillon Let's see the Tory polling figures several months after No Deal ....^

after the economy has fallen over the cliff
and people realise that the UK has suicided like Argentina did - and never recovered from

Brexit is the chance for both the far right and the far left to have their turn for a term, reshaping the country
That's why both extremes favour it

.... the hard left will probably have their turn after the hard right get in this coming GE

Problem is:
After so many years of crying wolf about leftwing bogeymen confiscating the property of the better off, eating kittens etc
noone will believe you if the far left takeover actually happens

TokyoSushi · 08/10/2019 10:54

Argh! I am so, so busy at work so had momentarily taken my eye of the Brexit ball. It looks like today is going to be one of those days where you thought it would be quiet, and yet again it's kicked right off.

Peston says he expects a statement from BJ later, and today might be the day of VONC, let's see...

ContinuityError · 08/10/2019 10:57

No 10 spokesman on outcome of phone call between Johnson and PM. More spin for domestic consumption?

Also suggested that Berlin are thinking about putting out their own statement.

Westminstenders: Pro Rogues
ContinuityError · 08/10/2019 10:58

Sorry - that should read “Johnson and Merkel”.

Basilpots · 08/10/2019 11:01

Me too Just or at least includes the Dont knows it’s a perfectly valid position to say ‘I’m definitely voting but I don’t have the foggiest how’.

If they could muster up a leader the ‘don’t know’ party would probably get some seats. Grin

DGRossetti · 08/10/2019 11:02

Is it just me, or is that statement trying to sound like the abusive spouse who's telling their partner how "you made me hit you" ?

Deeply unpleasant in any case.
