Have to make this quick.

Johnson has made an 'offer' to the EU. Let's stress this isn't a deal because they haven't agreed.

The EU have made kind noises about it but will say no thanks.

The UK are expecting this, and despite what's been said apparently are expecting more negotiation on this.

The DUP and the ERG seem to be on board with the proposal meaning in theory Johnson might have numbers to get through parliament. Except its not a deal so this is currently meaningless.

Parliament is prorogued again from next week with the Queen's Speech the following week.

The newspapers seem useless at the moment.

Newspapers aren't supposed to deliver news, merely act as a funnel for the views of the owners. Its partly why the country is in this mess in the first place.

Grinchly · 05/10/2019 11:23

I agree re eery quiet.
Woah! Just got a weird deja vu moment thenHmmShock

JeSuisPoulet · 05/10/2019 11:30

I just caught up with episode 3 of Gogglebox. Some ideas I am pondering since watching; 1. Most families now say they are more engaged in the news 2. One lady said she things BoZo was just trying to do the will of the people when he prorogued and lied to Brenda - of course he wouldn't have done it had he known (MC white women do have a soft spot for him somehow) even though she admitted those who wanted were 'poor fools' 3. Every family sees UK is up shit creek and are only making themselves look worse as the weeks roll on.

Going to watch 4 later at some point - I find it really fascinating to see how the media portrays the people and how you see people react rather more normally (more like us seeing through the bullshit) in real time to the news.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/10/2019 11:44

So many on Gogglebox can't stand BoZo. It's interesting to watch (as is how Mary has now gone full-on Brexiteer since the referendum)!

Apileofballyhoo · 05/10/2019 11:47

There's nothing really new. It just keeps going further and further downhill.

Nothing left to do except wait. And stockpile. And research resistance movements.

Apileofballyhoo · 05/10/2019 11:49

And borrow Sterling and buy dollars or gold or something with it.

BigChocFrenzy · 05/10/2019 11:56

This is the calm before the storm

Most political analysts are waiting until the Queen's Speech and what happens afterwards:
extension / resignation & VoNC / GE / ....

The media is keeping readers in the comfort zone that the EU will give in to BJ's deal
Even those who don't support the Tories or Brexit keep succumbing to this fantasy, because the truth is too grim;
most keep hoping for a miracle and also don't want to be blamed when it doesn't

Not many UK journalists are doing their job and questioning the govt, but nothing new - they haven't been for many years
A few, in trying to get exclusive access, have basically become govt mouthpieces
Irish journalist are doing so much better on covering Brexit

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 05/10/2019 12:20

Well, since it's quiet, you'll all have time to read the article that liberty linked to (on the previous page). Here it is again in case you missed it. Heartbreaking indeed. Hands up all those who want to return to this.

prettybird · 05/10/2019 12:29

I agree that the Irish MSM is doing a much better job at forensically examining what is -actually going on.

Most of the UK MSM is variously (and sometimes simultaneously) living in cloud cuckoo land, deluding itself, sticking its finger in its ears and crooning "La, la, la", still living in the Empire and assuming that the EU "needs us more than we need them" (because German cars Hmm), taking at face value what the government claims to be the "truth", perpetuating the myth that the EU is out to "punish" the UK and believing that if we ignore it, it will go away.

HmmSadConfusedAngry

prettybird · 05/10/2019 12:30

I did read that article Somebody - it is indeed heartbreaking SadSadSad

Mistigri · 05/10/2019 12:30

I swear I am going to post extracts from that article about the 186 dead children every time some shit-for-brains English brexiter starts pontificating about Ireland on here.

Most of Brexit I'm kind of immune to now, but the callous attitude to Ireland gives me the RAGE.

FoldyRoll · 05/10/2019 12:31

The news reaction on Gogglebox between last week and this week is stark, JeSuis. Enjoy!

tobee · 05/10/2019 12:37

What I'm worried about is misdirection, of Derren Brown worthiness. Shock

That all this Hungarian representatives turning up in plain sight to Downing St, heavily publicised phone calls to Poland. Trying to get us to go "Aha! That's their cunning plan!" When the truth of getting around the Benn act/leaving on October 31st is going to be something entirely different flying in under the radar. Hmm

prettybird · 05/10/2019 12:39

I do think that there is a lot of bluff and double bluff going on.

No idea who is going to "win" Confused

....but it certainly won't be the UK Sad

54321go · 05/10/2019 12:45

Having been hospitalised for a week and taken a few more weeks off MN and Brexit, it is sort of interesting to see nothing has really changed in ll that time. AIBU threads have just got more 'bitchy' and unpleasant over this time too, leaving Westminsterenders and especially the lovely cats as the only refuge of near sanity.

Hoooo · 05/10/2019 12:46

So many powerful, elite, quisling motherfuckers are implicated in this emperors new clothes madness that it's those of us pointing, shouting, waving our arms about - and calling out the stupid, bollock naked, deluded, preening private school and oxbridge twats for what and who they are - who are called "traitors" or "vermin".

I've not been on here much lately, but am avidly reading.

I'm making sure me and my family are prepared - as much as we can be - for this utter shit show.

I'm still scared.

I'm still so, so sad that this is what my country is.

tobee · 05/10/2019 12:52

Dominic Cummings has says that they are going to "win" pretty. What I want to know is what they are going to win? Confused

I remember also during the Troubles hearing every now & again that children had been blinded by baton rounds,
but one doesn't realise at the time how many children it all adds up to.

it was a shock to read that 186 children died, almost all imo murdered.,
but also many more would have been maimed or scarred for life.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 05/10/2019 13:27

Very touching speech at the end and worth a sub to this guy

BigChocFrenzy · 05/10/2019 13:29

Welcome back, 54321
I hope you are fit again after the op and the long pause

BigChocFrenzy · 05/10/2019 13:31

Poster Yep, we know things are getting pretty desperate when you & I are agreeing too much Wink

borntobequiet · 05/10/2019 13:32

Agree that this is the calm before the storm. Was making plans to meet up with family for the march on the 19th and joking that we hoped it wouldn’t be stopped in some way. I joked about this before when TM was PM but that was really a joke. I wouldn’t put anything past BJ and henchpeople.

Hoooo · 05/10/2019 13:33

Cheers mockers :)

54321go welcome back and hope you are feeling better.

Hoooo · 05/10/2019 13:36

We were going away but due to my injury we can't.

But it also means I can't walk that far yet so can't go to the march, sadly.
