A row over parliamentary language and conduct and how MPs are afraid of extremists has over shadowed talk of Brexit.

Cummings has said if you don't want to leave without a deal, vote for a deal.

Yet there isn't a Johnson approved one in front of the Commons and the EU are utterly despairing of Johnson's blank non papers and his full on Trump bullshit.

Then there's the threats to the rule of law.

Apparently there are five known suggestions to bypass the Benn Act and refuse to ask for an extension.
See Twitter Thread Here

This weekend sees the start of the Tory Party Conference. With a parliamentary vote to block a recess, its rather scuppered plans for the rest of the conference. Johnson's planned speech at the conference clashes with PMQ so he may well not attend the Commons.

Expect the conference to be.... Er... Inflammatory...

I admire anyone who can listen to this without throwing objects at the TV.

Surenuff · 29/09/2019 15:46

No one should be allowed to utter the words 'get Brexit done' without being challenged to state exactly what that means. It certainly doesn't mean just getting past 31st October without an extension to article 50

placemats · 29/09/2019 15:46

Ignoring all things regarding the ERG Conservative conference.

We all know what's going to be said anyway.

Despicable lot.

BCF: As are you.

This just popped up on my twitter feed and until I'd read to the bottom (and realised that it was retweeted by Gavin Schmidt, the NASA climate research boss) I thought it was a Brexit post.

Takeaway:

  • climate deniers and brexit campaigners are the same people
  • they are using the same tactics honed over decades (they cut their teeth on tobacco denial).

Who'd have thought Finland would hold the might of the entire Red Army to a defeat in 1940 ?

Who would have thought that Vietnamese peasants could defeat the might of the American Army.

prettybird · 29/09/2019 15:51

I'm watching the Men's World Championship Road Race instead Bike

In what shouldn't surprise anyone:

Chris Mason @ChrisMasonBBC
The Labour MP Kate Hoey is about to appear at a fringe event at #CPC19

Harriet Line @HarriLine
Lots of applause from Conservative members as Labour MP Kate Hoey speaks at her first Tory Party conference. She notes people are “much better dressed” #CPC2019

Henry Zeffman @hzeffman
Kate Hoey, still a Labour MP, appears at her first Tory conference. She says this is a “much better-dressed conference”

Hugo Gye @HugoGye
At a #CPC19 event on replacing the backstop. The one Tory MP here (Graham Brady) is 200% outnumbered by non-Tory MPs (Arlene Foster & Kate Hoey).

Adrian Wooldridge @adwooldridge
Kate Hoey: “no surrender”

James Forsyth @JGForsyth
Kate Hoey says that even without the backstop she wouldn’t vote for the withdrawal agreement even if it didn’t include the backstop, a reminder of just how hard the parliamentary maths for any agreement is

She says this is a “much better-dressed conference”

Remember Cameron goading Corbyn about his dress sense? I wonder what he thinks of Boris Johnson's dress sense?

Basilpots · 29/09/2019 15:59

In what wrong turn in life did Kate Hoey end up in the Labour Party ??

DarkAtEndOfUk · 29/09/2019 16:04

Scary times. If this hasn't been posted up yet, nice summary here:

Alsohuman · 29/09/2019 16:04

Kate Hoey’s in Manchester? Wtf?

DarkAtEndOfUk · 29/09/2019 16:06

"People who voted Leave in 2016 have a right to be angry. If you backed Remain and Remain had won, but politicians were still intent on taking Britain out of the EU, you would be angry too.

But Leave anger is based on a sly rewriting of history. Boris Johnson is refashioning the Tory party into an English nationalist party. We won, his message goes. Parliament voted to trigger article 50. MPs promised to deliver Brexit, and now they are betraying it. Demagoguery is the last, best hope of a desperate PM.

The Brexit stab-in-the-back myth deceives because it can never admit that the 2016 referendum was bound to be betrayed."

prettybird · 29/09/2019 16:07

Why Hoey still has the Labour whip, I just don't know. Confused

BigChocFrenzy · 29/09/2019 16:14

Talking of my least favourite people in politics 🤮 :

Channel 4 News@Channel4News

"If he doesn't come to some sort of an arrangement... he'll just be leading the Charge of the Light Brigade."

Ann Widdecombe says Boris Johnson won't win a majority in an election
"if he refuses any co-operation with the Brexit Party".

BigChocFrenzy · 29/09/2019 16:22

Has someone reminded BJ yet ?

Jennifer Rankin@JenniferMerode

Boris Johnson to Angela Merkel on 21 August:
“You gave set a very blistering timetable of 30 days, if I understand you correctly.
I am more than happy with that.”

It’s day 30.

placemats · 29/09/2019 16:22

prettybird · 29/09/2019 16:23

I daren't write what I really think of her

BigChocFrenzy · 29/09/2019 16:23

he is 9 days overdue for producing that deal

placemats · 29/09/2019 16:24

Much better dressed than you Kate. Is really what you meant to say.

prettybird · 29/09/2019 16:25

Yup - Gisela Stuart too. Fucking hypocrite. Angry

DGRossetti · 29/09/2019 16:25

DGR I am flattered at your personal interest in my career.

It's not so much a personal interest, but for various reasons I grew up knowing a lot of police officers, and I recall an occasion once when it tuned out that unbeknown to us, one of them had a commanders rank in the met.

I also had quite a few little tours of the police training grounds on Hounslow Heath, when it was in operation (is it still ?). Saw the crowd control vehicle they could never use ...

BigChocFrenzy · 29/09/2019 16:26

pretty I thought she had abandoned the Tory ship, out of disgust with all those liberal bleeding hearts Hmm
but then she hitched a ride with the BXP

When she decides Farage is too soft, where next ?
