It's that time of year again when politicians seem to completely lose their marbles in order to impress the faithful. And it is beginning to feel like conference season is increasingly an exercise in religious ferver to the party rather than considering what's in the best interests of the whole country.

Labour have got off to a good start before their conference opens, by almost starting complete melt down.

The Tories have promised to break from convention and try and over shadow the others, so that's something to look forward to.

And early this week we have the supreme Court ruling which could, regardless of which direction it swings, have massive ramifications for our democracy.

Big week ahead.

Why not have a card vote?

Let me think

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

OK, I've thought.

Not voting Labour. The FibDems are lying bastards, but at least you know they won't ever carry out their promises and so can rely on them to let you down.

CendrillonSings · 23/09/2019 18:02

Looks like the Lib Dems are having their best conference ever! Grin

Hoooo · 23/09/2019 18:13

What - and I mean seriously - the actual fuck is going on at labour conference????

TheABC · 23/09/2019 18:22

"but at least you know they won't ever carry out their promises and so can rely on them to let you down"
Grin
@MockersthefeMANist, that's the most bitterly pragmatic political position I've ever read.

CendrillonSings · 23/09/2019 18:27

It's hard to tell just from reading the transcript, but they seem to have, er, "swung" the most critical vote of the conference in the leadership's favour to chants of "Ooooooh, Jeremy Corbyn!".

Our saviours, ladies and gentlemen!

Songsofexperience · 23/09/2019 18:28

How did they count the vote? Confused...

prettybird · 23/09/2019 18:29

Show of hands....Hmm

Meanwhile, Bozza has broken his silence and denied any impropriety in his relationship with the bouncy blonde model turned entrepreneuse.

As if he would twice overrule his officials and divert public money to a big-tittied shag half his age. I mean.....

Myriade · 23/09/2019 18:34

A very practical question for you lot that are much more ‘in the know’.

We are going to France at Christmas to see my parents. What do you think will be the least disrupted in case of a No Deal? Train or flights?

Songsofexperience · 23/09/2019 18:35

Show of hands?? On the biggest decision in a generation?
Wow. Just wow.

Ellie56 · 23/09/2019 18:35

Hmm Just when you thought the grown ups were taking charge and common sense was about to prevail...

JustAnotherPoster00 · 23/09/2019 18:45

Are there any labour supporters on here able to say why they agree with this position?

No matter how much the Remain side want the Leavers to vanish and likewise for Leavers I dont doubt, its the only option on the table by any party that is trying to take both sides odf the debate and bring some kind of unity, the 17.4 and the 16.8 (are those the numbers I cant remember any more tbh) deserve to be heard, we cant take the referendum back so we are stuck with the result, so Labour remaining neutral until after the GE and re-negotiation (without May's self imposed red lines and the ERG sniping), with the
desire to try and do the best for the majority of the people who are struggling no matter how they voted and then convening a special conference seems sensible to me

MockersthefeMANist · 23/09/2019 18:51

John O'Farrell put it thus:

The people have spoken, and they have voted for a cheese submarine.

Some people say, give them some manner of yellow-painted craft that may or may not be capable of submerging and they will be satisfied.

Others say, No, A cheese submarine is what people voted for and so a cheese submarine is what they must have. And it must be Wendsleydale. Anything else is a sell-out.

Others say, FOR FUCK'S SAKE, YOU CAN'T HAVE A CHEESE SUMBARINE!!! IT'S A FUCKING CHEESE FUCKING SUBMAIRINE!!!!!

(bit they are the elite, the enemies of the people and so must not be listened to.)

Bearbehind · 23/09/2019 18:56

the desire to try and do the best for the majority of the people who are struggling no matter how they voted and then convening a special conference seems sensible to me

But Corbyn is a Leaver so what happens

If we get an extension to allow a GE and

If Labour win and

If they negotiated a different deal which has to involve continued alignment with the EU on most areas, thus is pretty pointless

So the choice is BINO or Remain - then what does Corbyn do?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 23/09/2019 18:58

Corbyn does what he always does, abides by whats decided at conference

prettybird · 23/09/2019 18:58

Seems appropriate to re-post this Sad

Ignore the spelling mistake at the start Wink

This just reminds me of student union politics when the Labour politicos used to drive everyone else away to the bar with endless procedural twaddle and silly games to swing the vote so they could push through their agenda, one of them became an MP and a Minister, another a political editor on one of the TV stations Hmm In the end there was a massive revolt and sit in because they went too far diverting money from sports societies to their political projects and we were all supposed to cough up for the coaches to away fixtures. The MP to be went into complete meltdown. I suppose it is naive to assume they would have grown up and realised that they can't afford to alienate the people they drive away to the metaphorical bar........

JustAnotherPoster00 · 23/09/2019 19:00

I'm hoping he stays neutral and lets all Labour MP's conscience vote so that they can represent their constituencies and not an edict down from high, plus as we saw in the referendum with campaigning for remaining and people voting to leave because of it I'm sure it would be the same for Corbyn

MockersthefeMANist · 23/09/2019 19:02

Emily

At our Poly, the Rugby Club staged a coup and took back the funds to spend on piss-ups. We then had to vote them out because the floor of the Union Bar became too sticky to walk on.

Bearbehind · 23/09/2019 19:03

Corbyn does what he always does, abides by whats decided at conference

But the decision is to make a decision which can only be between BINO or Remain

JustAnotherPoster00 · 23/09/2019 19:03

What other answer is there that takes both sides of the argument, except for the revoke and no deal unicorns, into consideration or do you just ignore all sensible options and head for whatever persuasion of unicorn you want

JustAnotherPoster00 · 23/09/2019 19:04

But the decision is to make a decision which can only be between BINO or Remain

Who says? Life is never binary and I dont understand the need to make this a perpetual binary choice, compromise is the only thing thats going to mitigate some of this shit show that is Brexit
