The Supreme Court case continues
(ruling possible Friday but likely Monday)

The new NI proposal is bollocks and Johnson didn't get why until it was discussed in Europe.

There was a press conference in Luxembourg which looks good for Johnson.

Johnsons approval ratings are up.

And we are making no obvious progress to anything but no deal...

My last employer (UK, Financial Services) operated a 35 hour week. We still got all the work done and it was a good place to work. And they are pretty successful at what they do.

tobee · 21/09/2019 18:01

BCF i'd put BJ down as wilfully ill informed (down to laziness and arrogance repeatedly tolerated) rather than, necessarily, stupidity.

Ellie56 · 21/09/2019 18:05

tobee I'd put BoJo down too. Grin

Not sure why all the angst about Jolyon Maugham's home address
its on Companies House
and has been for a while

Mistigri · 21/09/2019 18:24

There is a big difference between an address being available if you know where to look, and publishing an address in a mass circulation newspaper in a week that the person concerned has received death threats.

ListeningQuietly · 21/09/2019 18:27

True, but I'm sure the Heil will chicken out, as will their readers

chomalungma · 21/09/2019 18:27

So what. My address is on Companies House as well. It's publically available. Does that give a newspaper the right to put it in their newspaper if I do something that annoys them?

AuldAlliance · 21/09/2019 18:56

It's a bit like this...
There is a difference between people being able to access images of judges, should they choose to do so of their own free will, and a newspaper providing them with images of judges in this way

BigChocFrenzy · 21/09/2019 18:59

How many of the mouth-breathers have even heard of Companies House, let alone would think of obtaining a QC address from there ?

It significantly increases the risk of tragedy

BigChocFrenzy · 21/09/2019 19:02

btw, that "Labour activist" who LauraK outed to her 1.1 million followers has since received death threats

The media must THINK before publicising names of nobodies, or addresses of somebodies

NoWordForFluffy · 21/09/2019 19:04

I use Companies House on a daily basis and I hadn't thought about looking for him on there.

tobee · 21/09/2019 19:13

Lol @Ellie56

colouringinpro · 21/09/2019 19:15

I think about 74% of Jo Maughan's work is pro bono now.

I was v disappointed in his views on the Trans stuff. But can't deny his anti Brexit work has been huge.

ListeningQuietly · 21/09/2019 19:26

The Laura K should result in her being disciplined - it was utterly unacceptable to "out" the parent of a sick baby.

Jolyon has the resources (the level of his pro bono work shows) to defend himself and I'm sure that Kent Constabulary will have systems (and love a break from Brock and Stack)

but utterly indeed
the hate coming from the tax dodging vitriol spouting meejah is reaching its limit
which I can see but need to be careful what I type

chomalungma · 21/09/2019 19:37

In the 'old days', you could confront an MP with your opinions and speak out on QT without worrying about the consequences.

Now, your name can be publicised. The DM can do a hatchet job on you - instead of an article in a paper that not many people can follow up, Your life can be dissected - and all online so it's easy.

The internet - a good thing in some respects - but I bet it makes people think before speaking out.

choma
I'm old enough to remember when the internet v2 - as in allowing people to freely post everywhere -
was new and novel and seen as a force for good
at the moment its seen as a force for bad
in another ten years it will mature in the way that other mass media have
assuming we have not ferked the climate by then

chomalungma · 21/09/2019 19:45

I don't get all the hating on Laura K. She was looking and found an angle

Prime Minister lies on camera or Labour activist complains about state of NHS to Prime Minister.

What angle should a journalist take?

I would agree to an extent Mother. LauraK has also definitely been accused of being pro remain, pro left before and some say she has been guilty of being seen as pro Tory/leave to cover this. Also, being attacked from all sides and sent death threats is now just another day for journalists sadly. The reporting of the father as a Labour activist is one thing but identifying him on Twitter, and the BBC not being sanctioned on this is not a good precedent.

Having said that, despite what people think about the media, I think having a free press, and people criticising the free press is undervalued by some and essential to civilised society. But death threats, among other things, cross the line.

chomalungma · 21/09/2019 19:52

And was it not possibly pretty obvious that the press were there

So journalists should be questioning how easily our PM can lie....

If anyone who dares to question the PM can be quote tweeted by a journalist, you can only imagine the response from people out there.

Being quote tweeted by a journalist - or even a 'celebrity' can result in a pile on. It happened to me once with Katie Hopkins. I had to turn off my notifications for a while.

RedToothBrush · 21/09/2019 19:52

No damage to the party's reputation....

I agree with choma here
The Prime Minister of the UK outright lied on camera
THAT is the story

FWIW, have a look at the first few seconds of the video in that corridor
poor bloke staggers out of the room where his baby is being treated
leans against the wall trying to think clearly
and sees the Prime Ministers 4 feet in front of him

What would YOU do !
I'm amazed there was no violence
I'm astounded there was no swearing

its interesting that the nursing staff and the hospital chief exec did not put their hands in front of the camera
(their workplace, their right)

Sorry but Laura K blew her impartiality in that moment.
and the BBC is meant to be balanced
