From Flamingos to Yellowhammer and Black Swans.

The Tory Remainer is now a Dodo. Instead the party in inhabited by disaster capitalist Vultures. Jeremy Corbyn, meanwhile, has been labelled by the right wing press as a Chicken. The SNP would very much like Boris Johnson to be a Jailbird. The LDs are keen to sing like Canaries about the contents of BlackSwan. The Br

And the Tower of London is starting to get very jumpy about the whereabouts and location of its Ravens.

I would not, however, advise eating urban wild pigeons if things get desperate, from what I know of their health.

I am glad I am not the only one thinking that, @QueenOfThorns. Plus, the disabled as a happy bonus (because the diabolical ESA and PIP interviews were clearly not doing their job efficiently). Their reputation as the Nasty party will take a giant leap forward.

TBH, I don't think they consider their members as assets anymore. Cummings has demonstrated that if you have sufficient money and a complete lack of ethics, targeted social media will do it for you.

TheABC · 12/09/2019 23:19

Although I do stand by my assertion that FB ads are not a magic bullet. I still think the main anger behind the Vote Leave is the uttterly shit austerity management.

AutumnCrow · 12/09/2019 23:26

This is the most interesting QT for at least a year.

borntobequiet · 12/09/2019 23:31

The bridge was being discussed on PM this evening as though it were feasible. Utterly bonkers. And yes, it’s BJ’s “wall”. I can believe he has a sort of fetish for bridges but as I remarked many months ago, the politician who has learned the most from Trump is Johnson. He’s read the playbook and is busy adding footnotes and appendices.
Anyway, PMK, thanks again Red.

Humph - I go away for an hour and an new thread starts and goes into it's 4th page. That's not right.

I was just watching the footage of WW2 films by amateur photographers on BBC4. People with first hand experience did not glorify war. It also reminded us how many millions were killed - something which we could not have imagined at the start.

Peregrina · 13/09/2019 00:02

That letter by Johnson, to the party faithful(?) - he made it sound as though Corbyn had been negotiating for the last 3 years. As for his 'achievements' as Foreign Secretary, spot the deliberate omission.

JeSuisPoulet · 13/09/2019 03:56

I knew something bugged me about the Northern Powerhouse BoZoCum started on about:

CumFace's wiki: Cummings was described as a "key figure" in the successful campaign against a North-East Regional Assembly in 2004,

NERA wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regional_assembly_(England)#Plans_for_elected_regional_assemblies Sound familiar?

JeSuisPoulet · 13/09/2019 04:04

Thanks for the clarification re courts too Red. It does start to erode a pillar of the judiciary system though and ultimately democracy, but hey, nothing new for us to think on!

Suggest we take another step back and do some 'forest bathing' to help with the stress www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/sep/13/woodland-sounds-help-relaxation-more-than-meditation-apps-study as I know I'm struggling atm with anxiety. Ironically I worry this is the kind of thing I will be scared to do if we have riots/lootings, so am going to see it as a stockpiling of sorts - walk while we can! Smile

I've also seen news for Bercow's fans who want some hero worship time - sounds like he has some political armies up his sleevies! Grin

Placing my mark on this thread. With my slow internet connection on holiday here in rural Devon by the time the thread loads it's full up and there's a new one to download 🐦

Camomila · 13/09/2019 05:11

PMK

So cross. Brexit is even ruining my favourite dream now (hence the funnny posting time)
I have this recurring dream where I'm a kid/teenager happily doing gym at my old gymnastics club. Last night we made it to dream olympics (yay) only to be told our new GB uniforms were red and black, GB had a new name, and we had to wear them or get shot.

JeSuisPoulet · 13/09/2019 05:21

Weird Camomila - my dream was we woke up and they'd turned off the internet Shock I went to check the thread to make sure it was just a dream Grin
Sleeping pattern's all over the place here!

The writing style in that Tory letter is like it's aimed at children.

it probably is .
the average reading age is something like 8yo

mathanxiety · 13/09/2019 06:04

Agree about the writing style in the Tory letter. Sad to say it has probably gone down really well.

redchocolatebutton · 13/09/2019 06:13

the average reading age makes me wonder what schools are doing.
btw it's not just a uk issues and I suspect its better in younger generations.

Hasenstein · 13/09/2019 06:32

Brexit worries fueling my usual insomnia, so (relatively) early PMK.

lonelyplanetmum · 13/09/2019 06:49

That Tory letter begging for cash says ...

That means our priorities would be ignored – priorities like the NHS, police and schools.

It's quite funny as yes these are the true priorities of the ruling ERG mob, but not in a good way.

Yes reducing the state burden is a priority. The priorities are rationalising the NHS and schools. The priorities are reducing expenditure on state provision and continuing the moves towards a free enterprise privatised based system for everything.

At least the letter is sort of honest.Don't the recipients of the letter know how to actually look up MPs voting records?

Anti-Brexiters file new legal challenge to force article 50 extension
Campaigners who led Scottish challenge on prorogation lodge case at court of session in Edinburgh on Thursday

They hope the nobile officium power could mean the court will send the article 50 extension letter on Johnson’s behalf, if he refused to do so.

OP posts:
TheMShip · 13/09/2019 07:33

I'm really worried about what happens if that court case succeeds, Red. Because that gives BJ an out, he doesn't have to request the extension if the court will, and can you imagine how the court signing the letter would be viewed?

RedToothBrush · 13/09/2019 07:37

Daniel Finkelstein @dannythefink
There is lots interesting in this @ComRes polling, including the attitude to delay. However it is also interesting to see how the question phrasing effect works. The same proposition put in a different order, and as agree rather than disagree, produces quite a different result.

Anyone would think that a significant number of people don't understand the question and don't know what they are voting for in this Comres survey.

It's quite a remarkable exercise in how survey questions can affect the findings...

Just swanning in with a couple of links -

Faisal Islam (was Sky, now BBC) tends to be on the ball about practical implications (social care, water supply …) - he’s been digging into local councils’ preparations for No Deal - twitter.com/faisalislam

Balliol students want to ban BJ from the college - "The demographics here have completely changed since Boris Johnson was a student. He does not represent our views and we don't want this person to be invited in as an alumnus, or have power within the college." They also want to ban any portraits of him.

JeSuisPoulet · 13/09/2019 08:01

Red that survey gives me a little tiny bit of faith - at least just over 20% admit that they "don't know". I thought with Tories that would be far lower Grin
