From Flamingos to Yellowhammer and Black Swans.

The Tory Remainer is now a Dodo. Instead the party in inhabited by disaster capitalist Vultures. Jeremy Corbyn, meanwhile, has been labelled by the right wing press as a Chicken. The SNP would very much like Boris Johnson to be a Jailbird. The LDs are keen to sing like Canaries about the contents of BlackSwan. The Br

And the Tower of London is starting to get very jumpy about the whereabouts and location of its Ravens.

I would not, however, advise eating urban wild pigeons if things get desperate, from what I know of their health.

I heard an interesting idea that activists could arrange a mass donation of £1 to a charity to make a point.

How does that work?

It was initially for situations where activists are dismissed as "a few losers" by whoever you are trying to "hit up". Said activists publicise a "make your voice heard" campaign suggesting a £1 donation to (say) NSPCC. Which would automatically attract publicity, anyway, and result in said charity noting a sudden £10,000 spike in donations for the week/month in question. Much harder to dismiss that as 10,000 "losers". Rinse and repeat. With charities benefiting.

It probably never went anywhere as trying to organise anything in activism is like herding cats at the best of times. Always seemed kinda neat though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/09/2019 17:55

I'd really like to be able to protest in front of our mp. Only he seems to be hiding from the public. Hmm

Hasenstein · 13/09/2019 17:57

Grinchly

"fascinating aida fan here!
I don't think they're touring anymore though?"

Had an email flyer to say they're appearing at the South Bank from 10 December to 5 January. Here's the link:

I've dragged DW to see them so often she's getting fed up - looks like I'll have to go on my own!

I liked "cheap flights" ...

This reminds of that time in Germany when:

German town tricks neo-Nazis into raising thousands of euros for anti-extremist charity.

People ‘sponsored’ the neo-Nazis for marching and donated it to an anti-extremist organisation.

Clever.

Johnson says there's the 'rough shape of a deal' in place. Is it a unicorn?

Sorry, I just had a brief memory of the Blues Brothers Grin

What do the EU say ?

MockersthefeMANist · 13/09/2019 18:08

Is it the rough shape he makes when he spaffs up agaist the wall?

prettybird · 13/09/2019 18:09

Oh to be up in Aberdeen tonight.

Ds has told me that there's a student parliament event today with Kirsty Blackman and David coburn debating over another Scottish referendum. She'll have the odious, execrable git him for breakfast.

For those that don't know: Kirsty is the deputy SNP leader in the House of Commons (and MP for Aberdeen North) and David Coburn was Scotland's Shane the odious and execrable first and only elected Scottish MEP for UKIP.

berlinbabylon · 13/09/2019 18:09

I think bellini will prove to have been right all along. We'll leave on 31 October (or perhaps on 31 Jan) with an NI-only backstop or something very like one but with a different name and then can relax until the end of transition looms.

David Cameron has revealed Brexit makes him depressed and accuses Michael Gove and Boris Johnson of “trashing the government” with their campaign to leave the EU, in a candid interview ahead of the release of his memoirs.

In an interview (£) with the Times before For The Record hits bookshop shelves, the former prime minister explained how he thinks about losing the referendum “every single day” and what the consequences will be.

He also says a second referendum may be necessary to break the deadlock and criticises Johnson’s move to prorogue Parliament and strip 21 Tory MPs of the whip for rebelling.

Speaking from his London home, Cameron told Andrew Billen: “I think about this every day. Every single day I think about it, the referendum and the fact that we lost and the consequences and the things that could have been done differently, and I worry desperately about what is going to happen next.”

Asked if he found sleeping hard, he said: “I worry about it a lot. I worry about it a lot.”

He said he had been under political pressure to hold a referendum in 2016 because there had been a series of treaties and the “issue was not going to go away”, adding he thought about it more than any other decision he made in government.

He reserves his most stinging criticism for his former Tory colleagues Michael Gove and Boris Johnson, who were instrumental in the Vote Leave campaign. He said the pair had left him feeling like he was “in a quagmire”. In the book he calls Gove “mendacious” and says the pair behaved “appallingly”.

In the interview, Cameron said Gove’s threat of Turkey joining the EU was “ridiculous” and accused him of creating a false narrative.

“There was a moment when I think it was Penny Mordaunt said on a Sunday morning show: ‘We have no power to stop Turkey joining the EU’. It’s just not true.”

Hooo
Just catching up on the thread and have messaged you - get your Mum lifting weights - even tins of tomatoes out of your stockpile will do ....
weight lifting is GREAT for older ladies to reduce the impact of osteoporosis

Basilpots · 13/09/2019 18:22

DG ouch no love lost there then.

prettybird · 13/09/2019 18:29

Douglas Coburn has pulled out of the debate in Aberdeen - doesn't surprise me, as he's a coward.

Apparently the Lord who was also due to be debating (Lord Bruce of Banachie?) has also pulled out.

Lisette1940 · 13/09/2019 18:31

prettybird I wish we'd Kirsty as MP. I'm further north in Gordon and we've got Colin the Tory as MP.

lonelyplanetmum · 13/09/2019 18:33

What do we think the effect of Hameron's criticisms of mendacious Gove and Mr Johnson will be?

My fear is it will give the latter a reactionary boost.

Lisette1940 · 13/09/2019 18:34

Malcolm Bruce, former Lib Dem MP for Gordon, now Lord Bruce of Bennachie

Jason118 · 13/09/2019 18:36

I don't give any shits at all about what Cameron says - he's a cunt.

Hoooo · 13/09/2019 18:37

jason I concur.

Basilpots · 13/09/2019 18:44

DC has neither the depth nor warmth .....

Peregrina · 13/09/2019 18:47

It seems only now that Cameron is beginning to regret what he has unleashed. The arrogant so and so could have taken advice surely before the Referendum, could have made a plan for what to do if Leave won, and failing that, should not have cut and run.

However, I am glad to see Johnson getting the flak for the mess he has created - his attempt to pass the buck to Corbyn didn't work in South Yorkshire.

berlinbabylon · 13/09/2019 18:53

The thing that jumped out at me having just read the Times interview with Cameron is that his two daughters are at state schools but his son is at private. I mean, really?

Peregrina · 13/09/2019 18:57

I recall Cameron making rather a song and dance about how his children were state educated. However, I suspect with his elder daughter, she was probably coming up to a critical stage education wise and they didn't want to disturb her.
