Amid scenes parliament was shut down.

In an unprecedented comment the Speaker, stated it was not an ordinary prorogation and it was blatantly an attempt to stop the executive being held to account.

And now it seems a Scottish Court agree with him:
"Lord Brodie cont: "the principal reasons for the prorogation were to prevent or impede parliament holding the executive to account and legislating with regard to Brexit, and to allow the executive to pursue a policy of a no deal Brexit without further parliamentary interference"

Thus parliament must reopen. Unless the decision is overturned in a higher court.

This is constitutionally a big deal. The Queen is highly unlikely to attend a reopening, especially in this manner, due to how political it now is.

General Election campaigning has already began with parties trying to take full advantage of the fact that there are currently no rules over spending.

Dominic Cummings actively and openly campaigning for the Conservatives whilst paid as a civil servant by the tax payer is a huge breech of the Civil service code but MPs are struggling to pin the government down on this as its being obstructive.

Cummings is keen to use data to target and personalise people based on their usage of the .gov portal for Brexit. This is OK as its in the national interest apparently. Its also incredibly sinister and concerning about how this could be used against the population.

Anyway if you thought parliament closing would result in a lull in events you were very much mistaken!!

What next?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_Swan:_The_Impact_of_the_Highly_Improbable

An interesting book

BigChocFrenzy · 12/09/2019 13:14

If Black Swan is worst case, the name is very misleading

As flouncy says, the term normally refers to an extraordinary event that come out of the blue to change everything
That name could be used to make most people think it an extreme version of Project Fear, the 1 in 1 million event

rather than something that is quite possibly going to happen, whether 1 chance in 2 or 3 / 4 /5,
but not in 1 million

Belindabelle · 12/09/2019 13:16

Thank you all. I have missed some of the threads but I was sure it would have been mentioned. I wonder if anyone is going to leak that to the press? Or if anyone will ask for it to be made public.

It is trending on Twitter.

borntobequiet · 12/09/2019 13:16

Agree the name Black Swan is totally misleading
Pretty much everything that's happening right now was predicted on these threads months if not years ago, if the worst came to the worst (as was pretty inevitable)

phpolly · 12/09/2019 13:17

.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/09/2019 13:17

Thecat They are the ones doing the most damage though, so every other MP and politician fighting No Deal and the hard right has to keep glancing for attacks from their rear

Or just blocking cooperation in an anti-No Deal alliance - that could really be the final straw in a GE
e.g. LDems refusing to stand down against Labour MPs

Horehound · 12/09/2019 13:20

Who says he vomitted? Or is that fake news?

BigChocFrenzy · 12/09/2019 13:23

re implicit / explicit threats of "starving out" Ireland, or depriving them of meds

There is talk of something like the Berlin Airlift for Ireland - which would of course onclude more ships ! -
as part of a huge rescue package, which we know the EU has already planned, in the event of No Deal

thecatfromjapan · 12/09/2019 13:23

Which ones, BigChoc?
I know, for example, you think Tom Watson is damaging. But no way is he a Blairite.

The Labour Party isn't so much divided as fragmentary on this.

And that, of course, is a problem.

Brexit is a right old mess.

Yellowhammer is the govt base scenario after No Deal
The "worst case" is a twisting of the fact that No Deal is the worst possible case

THE YELLOWHAMMER REPORT:
‘This is not Project Fear - it’s what we face after no-deal Brexit’

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/this-is-not-project-fear-its-what-we-face-after-no-deal-brexit-3p2cdq9zd

One of the 2 S Times journos on that story:

Rosamund Urwin@RosamundUrwin

"This is not Project Fear it’s what we face after no-deal Brexit"

Operation Yellowhammer is not the worst case scenario (that's Black Swan),
this is the government's "base" scenario

Bearbehind · 12/09/2019 13:37

Harsh. If a reg no is ABCD 123 and you've put in ABCD I23 it's not that difficult to work out the difference between 1 and I

But surely a parking attendant just types in the reg on the car in front of him and it either comes up or it doesn’t

They are not going to look through a list of all cars parked to see if the driver made an error when entering their details

It might be harsh but it’s fair - if you type your details in incorrectly then it’s going to be a problem

BigChocFrenzy · 12/09/2019 13:43

Poll, Comres, fieldwork 6-8 September

(Note re A50 extension that Comres gives the highest LAB & lowest BXP / CON and hence may weight more to Remain than the others)

Britain Elects@britainelects

"Brexit should be delayed for a further three months to 31 January 2020"

Agree: 29%
Disagree: 49%

via @ComRes

====

Westminster voting intention:

CON: 30% (-1)
LAB: 29% (+2)
LDEM: 17% (-3)
BREX: 13% (-)
GRN: 4% (+1)

DGRossetti · 12/09/2019 13:44

But surely a parking attendant just types in the reg on the car in front of him and it either comes up or it doesn’t

Why the fuck are they typing anything when even my 4-year old Android phone can mark out and read in a number plate (or other text) automatically ????

I attended an OCR exhibition at the NEC in 1999 where systems that captured and read number plates were available.

Bearbehind · 12/09/2019 13:47

Well whatever method they use to recognise the plate, my point is they only check against the actual plate in front of them, not a list of every vehicle parked to see if they can make a match.

I know this is off track but it is an interesting sideline into what people think they are accountable or not

Grinchly · 12/09/2019 13:54

It wasn't BJ I don't think, but another member of cabinet. Heard on R 4/ world service while half asleep. Dashed out onto Whitehall and threw up.

MockersthefeMANist · 12/09/2019 13:57

"Blairite" is a term of abuse used by Momentum against anyone who is not Momentum.

One of the worst Blairites in their book was Gordon Brown.

Belindabelle · 12/09/2019 14:00

According to Twitter BlackSwan leaking soon!

DGRossetti · 12/09/2019 14:00

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-49676133

A judge at the High Court in Belfast has dismissed a legal challenge against a no-deal Brexit.

One of the three cases brought was by the victims' campaigner Raymond McCord who plans to appeal the decision.

The court heard arguments that a no-deal would have a negative effect on the peace process and endanger the Good Friday Agreement.

But the judge said the main aspects of the case were "inherently and unmistakeably political".

(contd)

IDontBelieveYou · 12/09/2019 14:09

Is Jo Maughams big news possibly about black swan

prettybird · 12/09/2019 14:10

I don't think that BJ-Cummings would have the necessary empathy to throw up on reading the Black Swan planning/impact reports.

That would assume he thought that it might happen to him and not just to the hoi polloi Hmm plebs Hmm common people Angry

JustAnotherPoster00 · 12/09/2019 14:13

One of the worst Blairites in their book was Gordon Brown.

Nope Tristrum Hunt and Chukka Umunna

FractalChaos · 12/09/2019 14:15
