Amid scenes parliament was shut down.

In an unprecedented comment the Speaker, stated it was not an ordinary prorogation and it was blatantly an attempt to stop the executive being held to account.

And now it seems a Scottish Court agree with him:
"Lord Brodie cont: "the principal reasons for the prorogation were to prevent or impede parliament holding the executive to account and legislating with regard to Brexit, and to allow the executive to pursue a policy of a no deal Brexit without further parliamentary interference"

Thus parliament must reopen. Unless the decision is overturned in a higher court.

This is constitutionally a big deal. The Queen is highly unlikely to attend a reopening, especially in this manner, due to how political it now is.

General Election campaigning has already began with parties trying to take full advantage of the fact that there are currently no rules over spending.

Dominic Cummings actively and openly campaigning for the Conservatives whilst paid as a civil servant by the tax payer is a huge breech of the Civil service code but MPs are struggling to pin the government down on this as its being obstructive.

Cummings is keen to use data to target and personalise people based on their usage of the .gov portal for Brexit. This is OK as its in the national interest apparently. Its also incredibly sinister and concerning about how this could be used against the population.

Anyway if you thought parliament closing would result in a lull in events you were very much mistaken!!

What next?

I have MS and although I am under 65, I am usually in the first wave of NHS flu jabs. I'm taking no chances with the NHS and have booked in one with Boots that I pay for.

LarkDescending · 12/09/2019 06:39

bellinisurge you should be able to get your Boots jab for free if you have MS as you qualify under the NHS scheme:

www.boots.com/health-pharmacy-advice/vaccinations/flujab

bellinisurge · 12/09/2019 06:56

That's what I'm hoping to happen but I'm ready to pay if there is any argybargy.
Thanks, though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2019 07:37

None of my local pharmacies are booking in yet.

The issue is that there was a delay in deciding the strains going into the vaccine for the under 65 version. This has put things back by a month.

That means that there will be some available mid October, but not all of it. The rest is due after brexit and the concern is of course shipping it into the UK after brexit.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2019 07:39

If it's any consolation, at the moment climate indicators tend to show a warmer milder run-up to Christmas than average.
That is not a forecast!

Tory MP Nigel Evans tells @LBC Yellowhammer is "worst case scenario on steroids".

"I spoke to (Brexit Secretary) Steve Barclay and he said to me... 'two-thirds of the medicines Ireland gets come through UK. If there are shortages in the UK, there'll be shortages in Ireland'."

Let's hold Ireland to ransom.

I thought his favourite pastime was model-making?! He's definitely an odd one!

"Let's hold Ireland to ransom."

You'd think they'd have learned from the reaction when Priti Patel tried that one.

Through the UK. Haven't the EU already started work on new routes direct to Ireland for RoRo? It'd be odd to assume they hadn't thought of this, given they're a lot more prepared.

I am one who thinks that the WA is just a slower version of no deal at this point.

Jo Maugham promising more big news this afternoon on Twitter:

Now off to the TV studios to do a pre-record for news breaking this afternoon.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2019 08:07

What do we reckon it could be? They need to start legal proceedings for only a tiny snippet of Yellowhammer being released. Could it be that?

Camomila · 12/09/2019 08:08

Our GPs surgery sent me (pregnant) the 'come get your flu jab' text on the 1st September. Am having it on 21st Sept.
OTOH all DSs little friends in our old town have had their pre-school boosters but I have to wait for a letter.
Post code lottery?

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2019 08:08

Well I am with cat ,Swedish and fluffy here.

The WA was forced upon us out of the blue with no discussion based on red lines in TM's head, and now we are supposed to suck it up and accept it as the best we can get?

Do you really think I'm over the moon and cheering for the WA?

Please give me some credit.

In my view another route has to be found.

At this point it depends on whether you think that realistic or just another Brexit Unicorn.

And if it does get through in the end because everybody is so truly fed up with the whole thing, it will be a dreadful shame.

Everything about Brexit is a real shame. Not just how fed up everyone is with it.

I won't be bullied into the path of least resistance.

Nice that you have that luxury. Meanwhile there lots of people who will die if they don't get their meds. I'm not prepared to gamble with their lives.

The scary thing is not just that people might die if they don't have the meds they are dependent on to live. Its that all these people will run out of their meds at around the same time. It's a potential effective 'epidemic' so that the emergency services will all pretty much fail all at the same time. That's a disaster on a scale that a modern western nation hasn't faced.

So yes, I reserve the right to 'give in to bullying' as you are keen to minimise it to.

I imagine the EU will do basically anything to prevent medicine shortages in Ireland and that detailed contingency plans are in place.

Really horrified to hear this being used by the Brexit SoS as a bargaining chip.

NoWordForFluffy · 12/09/2019 08:11

While I think the WA could be renegotiated without the red lines, I will also accept the current WA, as I have been saying for ages, to prevent a no deal disaster.

We don't have the luxury of time right now. The cliff edge is here and I don't want to jump off it.

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2019 08:14

Remind me again, why is it in the EU's interests to do that?

Pitching my tent...

berlinbabylon · 12/09/2019 08:19

That is possible. But a lot depends on what sort of government we end up with after leaving. If it was Labour and they said, we want to remain in the EEA and CU, there wouldn't be much to agree other than how much do we pay to be in it?

The WA is just that - withdrawal. About leaving. Not about how we interact with the EU in future.

But of course if we have a GE and Boris is reelected, well all bets are off.

berlinbabylon · 12/09/2019 08:22

Though a PM who has been found by one of the highest courts in the land to have misled the Queen shouldn't be able to stand for (re)election.

Hoooo · 12/09/2019 08:23

The WA is shit.

But it's not "people dying because they can't get their meds" level shit.

I've said for months that no deal is political suicide so the shit WA it is.

It'll be interesting to see how bo/cum spin it though.

Hoooo · 12/09/2019 08:25

My own view is that - shit as it is - the WA means that once the next few years pass the younger generation will ask to rejoin/revoke.
