Absolutely, which why we have regular GE's, not everything promised in a winning manifesto is enacted.

But the ref was an irregular occurrence.

It was direct democracy with one issue.

To conflate a GE with accompanying manifestos covering a myriad of topics with a binary referendum is disingenuous.

Leave won. The next step was for MPs to accept the result & work towards implementation.
Instead, the losers have continuously done everything they possibly can to overturn & subvert.

Bearbehind · 13/09/2019 08:44

The parties can then campaign on the future relationship. LDs I assume will be fast track return, Labour, a soft Brexit (but I'm not sure) and the Conservatives, a hard Brexit (I assume).

How does a GE help when as you’ve stated, even at this stage we have no fucking idea what the opposition would campaign for as their leader says one thing and the rest of the party say all sorts of other things

bellinisurge · 13/09/2019 08:47

You are getting shirty again, Bear. I'll leave you to it.

DustyDiamond · 13/09/2019 08:51

With respect to where we are at the moment, I think Stephen Kinnock & Caroline Flint are doing the right thing but with the wrong suggestion.

As Bear says, the WA is just more can-kicking in reality.
To reheat it in a bastardised way is toxic.

Flint, Kinnock & their 'MPs for a deal' group should instead (in my opinion) be coalescing around EEA/EFTA

This gives a ladder to the DUP & ERG as it's not the 'hated WA', gives a ladder to Boris Johnson & Tories as it is Brexit, and gives a ladder to Labour as it ticks their boxes as well.

There's a really good chance that if presented with EEA/EFTA or no-deal, the current parliamentary set up could pass that easily.

Bearbehind · 13/09/2019 08:54

I’m not β€˜shirty’ bellini I just don’t understand why you’d wake up and think mummmy would have a different answer to the exact same question she was asked several times yesterday about YH when she’s always said she wants no deal at any price.

Equally I don’t understand why Remainers think they have a right to remove no deal to save Leavers from themselves

Even if the NI thing got traction and the WA went through the divisions won’t be healed.

The BXP would clean up in any GE because the Tories sold out so they’d probably end up in coalition together, because Labour stand for fuck all, and we’d be knocking on no deals door again soon

Bearbehind · 13/09/2019 08:54

To reheat it in a bastardised way is toxic.

Very well put

amp.businessinsider.com/leaked-memo-eu-preparing-to-grant-uk-new-brexit-extension-2019-9

Good news - looks like there will be an extension to avoid a no deal.

mummmy2017 · 13/09/2019 09:15

Result of GE is Tory majority.
Result of R get us out of here...
Oh nice, time wasted same result.
Do you not have any idea how what Parliament has done comes over to Joe Bloggs who swings an election.
The ones you recon shouldn't vote as too thick , will see this last few weeks as a betrayal .

bellinisurge · 13/09/2019 09:17

I have no time or headspace for anyone who is prepared to embrace No Deal. You can dress it up how you want but you are embracing it.
I hoped a night's sleep would have some people at least tweaking the ridiculousness of their words but it is still, in short, "Fuck NI, we don't give a shit about GFA".

Bearbehind · 13/09/2019 09:24

I hoped a night's sleep would have some people at least tweaking the ridiculousness of their words but it is still, in short, "Fuck NI, we don't give a shit about GFA".

Why on earth would you think 1 nights sleep would make the slightest difference when the other 1,000 plus since the referendum haven’t?

And it’s not just β€˜fuck NI’, it’s fuck anything and everything that gets in the way of leaving.

jasjas1973 · 13/09/2019 09:32

Leave won. The next step was for MPs to accept the result & work towards implementation

The Govt has, they cannot find a method of leaving that protects the UK economy and its peoples.
You are prepared to leave without a deal, if the result of that meant you lost your job and your house repossessed, would you be ok with that?

Instead, the losers have continuously done everything they possibly can to overturn & subvert

Of course, thats democracy! we all have a voice, we do not have to accept the result at all.

mummmy2017 · 13/09/2019 09:32

Sure I read a judge said something about the GFA.

mummmy2017 · 13/09/2019 09:36

Once you allow legal challenges on Parliament and for rich people to pay for it you open the doors to lots of cases.
What if it was selling the NHS and it was the MPs fighting to sell it using the courts to force it through.

Parker231 · 13/09/2019 09:41

Brexit will never happen with a no deal exit route. There will always be legislation passed to block this. The MP’s are currently a mess but luckily there are enough with some sense to continue to block no deal.

Bearbehind · 13/09/2019 09:43

Brexit will never happen with a no deal exit route. There will always be legislation passed to block this. The MP’s are currently a mess but luckily there are enough with some sense to continue to block no deal.

And every time that happens the divisions will just get greater and greater

jasjas1973 · 13/09/2019 09:44

Well, that works both ways, what if Parliament wanted to end universal free education and Gina Millar used the courts to stop it? would you be complaining?

There is also nothing to stop a PM from proroguing Parliament for as long as he or she likes, all they need is the agreement of the Privy Council.

prettybird · 13/09/2019 09:47

....all they need is a hand picked threesome from the c600 members of the Prviy Council. Quorum is only 3 Confused

Songsofexperience · 13/09/2019 09:49

And every time that happens the divisions will just get greater and greater

bear no deal won't purge us of our differences, there won't be a mass realisation that it was a mistake. It will entrench divisions further and break the country. It'll never be a solution.

Bearbehind · 13/09/2019 09:51

It'll never be a solution.

So what is?

Random18 · 13/09/2019 09:52

Mummmy another take on things.

When you have PM and his SPAD out of control, and the doors of parliament are locked, then the judiciary need to be involved to ensure that democracy is upheld.

Songsofexperience · 13/09/2019 09:53

A deal with CU and SM.
Norway plus.
Then suck up the fact we've lost our seat at the table. That's the price.

MysteryTripAgain · 13/09/2019 09:54

Brexit will never happen with a no deal exit route. There will always be legislation passed to block this

That assumes EU will agree to extensions forever.

I think a GE would result in a coalition of Brexit and Conservative party. With a majority they could overturn the Benn Act.

Hopefully DUP give a little an either accept an NI only backstop or make NI a special economic zone.

Whether or not Scotland would accept that I am not sure. As a member state they had the largest remain % and may object to NI been given special treatment?

frumpety · 13/09/2019 09:57

Revoke is the only solution that will allow divisions to heal quickly Smile

Bearbehind · 13/09/2019 10:06

A deal with CU and SM.
Norway plus.
Then suck up the fact we've lost our seat at the table. That's the price.

And what circumstances are going to enable that to actually happen?

jasjas1973 · 13/09/2019 11:02

Why should NI have the economic benefits of cu amd sm access but we do not?
OR we are punishing NI to stay in the hated and economically damaging EU.......

Its a dilemma.
