People are meeting at College Green (just down the way from Parliament Square) this evening at 5:30 (and on I guess)

Saturday 31st there is a protest outside Downing street at 12pm. See photo.

I'll add any more that I see. Feel free to do the same.

I'm going to the flash protest in my city this evening. DH can't though, he has a prior commitment.

There's also apparently going to be another protest in my city centre on Saturday, so we'll all be going to that one.

MagpieSong · 29/08/2019 10:14

Just wanted to add details for protests in South Wales.

SWANSEA PROTEST
Thursday 29th August (Today) from 16:15-17:30
AT Swansea Guildhall.
Meeting at the Council Entrance (same building as Brangwyn but round the corner on St Helens Crescent SA1 4NA).
Swansea Council are meeting here tonight and Councillors are expected to arrive from about 16:30pm. Currently a rally, but still updating and may be a possible march to the city centre.

CARDIFF PROTEST
Tuesday 3rd September (Tuesday coming) from 18:00-19:30pm
AT Aneurin Bevan Statue - 1 Queen Street, CF10 2AF Cardiff

Both have events now created on Facebook.

To those arguing about a majority voting Leave, it simply isn't clear what the UK would have voted without the corruption in the Leave campaign. Working with Cambridge Analytica was a scandal. Having just moved from London to Wales (post Brexit vote), the majority of those I spoke in London to who voted Leave did it for purely racist reasons and were convinced that it would mean 'immigrants' who were 'stealing housing and jobs' couldn't get in. It sounds cliche, yet it was a very common view held where we lived previously and there were a lot of very racist comments by people in that area. If those were the reasons for voting Leave, majority or not, I can't and won't back that. Not to mention that nobody voted for a 'No Deal Brexit'. The recent polls suggest Wales would now vote in a majority to remain, but remain or not, No Deal is not good for any majority in the Country and will not benefit the younger generations (which, as a mum, is pretty important to me).

borntobequiet · 29/08/2019 10:24

Thanks Kitten for the thread and links.
I will be going to London tomorrow by train and happy to meet up with anyone - will get into Paddington about 10:30.

borntobequiet · 29/08/2019 10:25

I mean Saturday! Going to London on Saturday!

pfrench · 29/08/2019 10:29

We're definitely going on Saturday, with child. We've also organised some others to come with us. First sign of any aggro, one of us will take child home. Without a child, I'd be happy to take part in sit-ins and stuff at this stage, although my job relies on me not being arrested, so that's a bit of an issue.

ListeningQuietly · 29/08/2019 10:44

No Deal was NOT what was offered in 2016
it must be prevented

IamAporcupine · 29/08/2019 10:48

MsMarvellous - I'm aiming to get to the Newcastle one on Saturday and I signed the petition.

I will see you there! Wink

TheBigBallOfOil · 29/08/2019 10:59

Yeah cheers for the handmaids tale quote that’s really cheered me up.
I know, I know, shooting the messenger

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/08/2019 11:17

You totally awesome people for keeping this thread updated :D

I need to work out how to repost that Google map, it's being kept up to date now (if it's the same one as shown earlier) I'll check it out when I'm home this afternoon.

Pmk to see if anything is being organized in Edinburgh.

TheMShip · 29/08/2019 11:21

All I can find is this one in September from www.edinburghlive.co.uk/news/edinburgh-news/edinburgh-protest-no-deal-brexit-16831328.amp?__twitter_impression=true

Another march will take place on Saturday, September 21 starting outside St Giles Cathedral.

It will begin at 2pm and demonstrators will make their way to the Scottish Parliament.

Edinburgh MPs Joanna Cherry and Ian Murray will be speaking at the rally, along with MSP Alex Cole-Hamilton.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/08/2019 11:23

Surely there must be something in the interim in Edinburgh. You are are right though, that's all I can find too.
Maybe something near spontaneous is needed for Saturday?

Bournemouth Saturday 31st August- 11am starting at the Square. It will be busy down there as the Air Show is on.

ListeningQuietly · 29/08/2019 11:30

postnot
Yup, not an easy place to get to.
Shame there is nothing else in Wessex this weekend

MagpieSong · 29/08/2019 11:39

Not sure if this is helpful, but I found this Map . Currently, the Edinburgh one linked was yesterday's, but Glasgow and Dundee both have protests on the 31st- but of a journey though! May help those looking to find details though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/08/2019 12:02

That's the map Magpie :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/08/2019 12:33

SWR have train strikes this weekend. They are still running trains, just to a different timetable. Don't be put off by them, just be prepared.

Placemarking - shall be in London on Saturday

Nacreous · 29/08/2019 12:50

Anyone got any good slogans?

"Prorogation against the nation" is my best so far...

verticality · 29/08/2019 12:53

Slogans - I think the existing "defend democracy" is terrible. All it does is to create more polar opposition with two interpretations of democracy set against each other. I think something like "People's Parliament" is a bit better.

Clavinova · 29/08/2019 12:54

The recent polls suggest Wales would now vote in a majority to remain

Poll in North Wales yesterday;

"Should Boris Johnson suspend Parliament to push through a 'no deal?"

Live poll - 11,325 people (82%) in favour, 2,431 (18%) against, 42 undecided.

TheBigBallOfOil · 29/08/2019 13:08

The irony here, of course, is that leavers, who have accused remainers of wanting to cherry pick from democratic processes, who are seeking to do precisely that.
Parliament has to not sit in 2019 to secure an outcome voted for in 2016. Make sense of that, if you can.
Whatever qualities these people have going for them, logic and consistency are not among them.

PostNotInHaste · 29/08/2019 13:16

Anyone got any new times and dates to add to the list that they have spotted?
