People are meeting at College Green (just down the way from Parliament Square) this evening at 5:30 (and on I guess)

Saturday 31st there is a protest outside Downing street at 12pm. See photo.

I'll add any more that I see. Feel free to do the same.

I can’t see anything on BBC re these protests. Not that I’m surprised at that 🤷‍♀️

"the timing isn't great" Hmm

The timing is deliberate!
Yes, we know how this works.
No, it isn't ok and pretending it's all "business as usual, nothing to see here" is pointless.
32 days.
Right through what might be the last chance parliament has to prevent a no deal brexit.
Not normal, and you cannot truly believe this is about an overdue prorogue.
The reason parliament has been in session without a prorogue for so long is because of the huge amount of work that needs to be done for Brexit.

May was at least trying to get a deal through parliament (a hugely difficult thing) and was striving to avoid no deal. BJ has decided he doesn't need parliament at all, as no legislation is (apparently) needed to crash out with no deal.

Sorry My post above was in response to Boggle's post.

It’s an extra 4 days. People are overreacting. Stopping brexit is against democracy surely

I agree stopping Brexit at this point would be undemocratic. Stopping no deal is a completely different matter - no deal was on no voting papers and is not what has been voted for.

Parliament is there to make decisions about things that have not been decided by referendum, such as what a Brexit deal would look like.

Four days is not the issue. Unilaterally shutting down parliament so it can’t do its job is.

Undemocratic decision making might feel fine when you happen to agree with it. The problem is that it sets the precedent for someone else who you don’t agree with to do whatever they like regardless of the democratic process too.

Boris doing this is bad news and a bad idea for anyone who values living in a democracy.

Lumene · 28/08/2019 20:36

Me thinks the left is not the problem right now.

The whole bundle of Westminster weasels are part of the problem.

Corbyn wants Brexit. If Labour had campaigned against remain would have very likely won.

Labour remain MPs could have backed May’s deal and avoided the threat of no deal. Same with Lib Dem and Change UK MPs.

Corbyn is not a viable opponent to Boris and won’t stand down to let someone more electable kick him out.

The whole political spectrum has helped create this mess.

Lumene · 28/08/2019 20:39

May was at least trying to get a deal through parliament (a hugely difficult thing) and was striving to avoid no deal. BJ has decided he doesn't need parliament at all, as no legislation is (apparently) needed to crash out with no deal.

To be fair there it was May who set things up so that the default is now crashing out whatever the cost.

The map is good, but out of date. So keep checking the spreadsheet and share any protests you find that haven't been mentioned yet (or if you aren't sure)

Thanks OYBK Smile

WeshMaGueule · 28/08/2019 22:49

And still more people voted brexit than not.....

No they fucking didn't. About a quarter of the population voted brexit, and another several million Brits living abroad weren't allowed to vote despite being among the most impacted.

LordBiro · 28/08/2019 23:26

Thinking of joining the Downing St protest on Saturday. Are people on here going with their kids?

pfrench · 28/08/2019 23:38

Yep we will. No alternative. We've taken her to 3 marches, rule is first sign of trouble get out.

pfrench thanks for reply this will also be our 4th one. I'm considering the Brexity fight back more than anything on this one.

Tanith · 29/08/2019 00:52

"The timing isn’t great but prorogation is long overdue."

Really? It was being discussed a few weeks ago as a weapon to be used to thwart any attempt to stop No Deal.
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7189749/Boris-Johnson-says-folly-rule-suspending-Parliament-Brexit.html

It appears to be the start of a series of time-wasting strategies planned to force through No Deal.

I wonder what they're going to sneak through while everyone is protesting this?

ARudeTerriblePerson · 29/08/2019 01:04

Thanks for this, OYBBK. What's the weather going to be like for all the protests? Wink Do we need umbrellas, as in Hong Kong?

Seriously, all the stuff about the Queen = it#s really not too late.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/08/2019 06:19

In northern England rain coats in the west tomorrow evening and Saturday morning but not too bad.

I’m just genuinely staggered that anyone can come on here and say that this action of the PMs furthers democracy.
THIS IS A PARLIAMENTARY DEMOCRACY YOU UTTER BELL ENDS
