People are meeting at College Green (just down the way from Parliament Square) this evening at 5:30 (and on I guess)

Saturday 31st there is a protest outside Downing street at 12pm. See photo.

I'll add any more that I see. Feel free to do the same.

So good to meet you Sovie Cappuccino and Bent

Its actually starting to hit me on the way home, the magnitude of this and whee we are going, in a way it hadn't before. Standing there, knowing that we were there because Parliament is to be shut down for five weeks to circumvent democracy, is actually quite horrifying.

I did walk back home carrying my placard today. People were looking at it and it's one way to get noticed. Popped into Sainsburys and someone asked me if I'd been on a protest Grin He asked me what it was about - which was a bit surprising!!

Got some smiles on the way home - as well as look of hate from one car.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/08/2019 19:31

Well done Cho I have to admit I've just hidden my badges and stuff (perhaps wrongly) from the football fans who've got on the train sat opposite and next to me.

I'm too tired to be hassled.

I've got to admit I quite liked being part of a crowd, near the front, and shouting along.

I wish I lived in London. But I think it's also important that this takes place across the country.

Since2016 · 31/08/2019 19:38

Thanks for the encouragement all. We made it - both DDs and I - at horse guards by 1 and then walked up and stopped off by jubilee gardens for a wee / food and then met back up with people in parliament sq. great atmosphere and warming to see such a cross section of society. Really glad we went.

Roussette · 31/08/2019 19:45

Fantastic. Well done everyone who went on a march.

ListeningQuietly · 31/08/2019 19:49

Ours was not a march, just a gathering
but we made it into the local paper
it was apolitical
it was inclusive
EVERYBODY is affected by the antics in Westminster
EVERYBODY is welcome to come along and no longer feel alone

boldlygoingsomewhere · 31/08/2019 19:50

Well done all who went on the march - I’m on holiday so couldn’t go today. It’s heartening that so many people are willing to protest this.
I agree that it’s good the protest are taking place all over the country - less easy to dismiss that way.

amandacarnet · 31/08/2019 19:53

I think whether you are pro or anti brexit that this is concerning. It is not a coup, but it is a deliberate attempt to circumvent democracy.

colouringinpro · 31/08/2019 21:43

anyone who was at previous London matches have any idea about London numbers. Just curious. Gutted I couldn't be there but had dd with ASD today and crowds are a major no-go.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/08/2019 22:15

I think estimates are around 50-60k.

I was at Whitehall today, I am almost 55 and was very active in protesting as a student. This was the first time I have taken to the streets of London to protest since then. I was deeply moved but also very saddened to see how many people like me there were protesting today. There were many people of all ages, but how bad do things have to be for middle aged middle class women to be out protesting for the first time since leaving university. We were there with M & S sandwiches in our bags for lunch, going back to comfortable lives in the Home Counties. The overwhelming sentiment was “This has gone too far, our democracy is under threat”

Average remainer I’d have thought.

Hell, I had a Costa Coffee with me..is that ok?

colouringinpro · 31/08/2019 22:29

Thank you for being there.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/08/2019 22:40

Well done Evenstar

I was actually really struck by the diversity today. Not just of the protestors, but also the Police.

Evenstar · 31/08/2019 23:00

@tomtom1999xx you might think of us as typical Remainers, perhaps we are but what I was trying to convey is that we are not typical protestors. Something has changed to bring people like us out to protest again after more than 30 years. I am glad it has, this issue is now bigger than Brexit and people from both sides should see that. I think we need a written constitution in this country, so that in future an unelected Prime Minister cannot claim that it is legal to suspend Parliament to force his will on our elected Representatives or the country.

Also I have no problem being labelled a Remainer when the only Leave campaigners I saw today could only articulate “We Won”. Nobody has won, our country is divided, and we are all the poorer for the disaster that has unfolded since 2016.

bellinisurge · 31/08/2019 23:12

Thank you.

CendrillonSings · 31/08/2019 23:57

Well done! You’ve all made a massive difference already:
