People are meeting at College Green (just down the way from Parliament Square) this evening at 5:30 (and on I guess)

Saturday 31st there is a protest outside Downing street at 12pm. See photo.

I'll add any more that I see. Feel free to do the same.

Just watched BBC news and ITV news and although BBC did show some protests, ITV covered it far more.

BentBastard · 31/08/2019 17:36

Hey are now heading up the Mall to Buck Palace. Wished I'd stayed on in London now

12goldstars · 31/08/2019 17:40

I think it’s going to be very difficult to estimate the number of people in London. As we arrived at around 12.30 people were leaving the crowd but there were still people arriving when we left close to 2. It was very fluid. We walked around a bit and there seemed to be people all over London with their badges and signs. It was nice to see how many made the effort. I looked out to see if there were any ladies with red toothbrushes but didn’t see any!

TheElementsSong · 31/08/2019 17:40

Ah, it’ll all be foreigners or tourists. Or foreign tourists.

Tonnerre · 31/08/2019 17:42

What's section 14?

ADarkandStormyKnight · 31/08/2019 17:50

Section 14 - Public order act

Two arrests in Trafalgar Square.... including Caroline Russell, Green Party London Assembly Member.

BentBastard · 31/08/2019 18:04

There's some video of the arrest on Simon Murpheys Twitter

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/08/2019 18:06

Thanks Woman! I've left the demo now. The police did quite a good job of splitting us up into smaller groups eventually. But I think we did a good job. It was a really peaceful protest, lots of chanting and sitting. Really respectful of the police.

I don't know long it will go on for now.

Today wasn't the end of it. It mustn't be. If you've been out today, make sure you get sufficient rest. Then whether you were able to go or not, check the map and get ready for the next one.

I've got chanting ringing in my ears still.

This aggressive anger from certain Leavers is strange. DH said he encountered it at a protest earlier this week.
They couldn’t say why No Deal was good, could only repeat mantras. And, yes, very, very angry.

woman19 · 31/08/2019 18:14

Today wasn't the end of it
Absolutely; so good to see people of all political stripes, ages, backgrounds and views getting together.

Yep, the police are brilliant; I'm in awe of how they handle things in Whitehall especially.

Lovely peaceful happy looking protests across so many countries including ours in support (just seen one in Malaga and one in Athens is in the offing)

Brew or Wine and Flowers to all.

ListeningQuietly · 31/08/2019 18:18

Several of the speakers at the gathering I went to
no advance planning so anybody and everybody could have a turn at the microphone and well known local politicians waited their turn
said they had never been angry enough to protest before

A couple I chatted to were true blues, furious with their MP for not answering emails

The range of anger is really quite something

TheElementsSong · 31/08/2019 18:31

Twitter responses from Leavers to the Leeds protest were 50:50 accusing the crowd of being “smelly students/ unemployed losers/ scruffy rabble” and “posh metropolitans/ middle class/ elites” (and liking each other’s entirely contradictory characterisations).

ADarkandStormyKnight · 31/08/2019 18:35

I hope its giving Johnson food for thought.

Johnson doesn't think. Even his girlfriend thinks he's selfish and self-entitled.

chomalungma · 31/08/2019 18:37

I hope it's giving Tory MPs food for thought.

The Daily Mail described the protestors as a rabble funded by Momentum!

Bless.....

woman19 · 31/08/2019 18:39

What's more important is the links people have made by going on these events Elements especially the local grassroots groups, places like Leek and Clitheroe aren't that elitist as far as I know?

But now they have a group of local people who've held successful peaceful actions and now know each other.

I understand Trafalgar is emptying now.

Beautiful international peaceful protest, organised virtually in hours.

Kudos to all concerned.

Peregrina · 31/08/2019 18:45

I don't know Clitheroe, I did know Leek.

It was very much a working class town, hit badly by the closure of the textile mills as they moved to the Far East starting back in the 1960s. It's certainly not a wealthy area, has some prosperous parts and some less so, but probably no ultra wealthy or ultra deprived. The town itself is or was Labour leaning, the country areas surrounding tend to be Tory. So they have had both flavours of MP over the years.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 31/08/2019 18:45

Actually I don't think Johnson cares either way about Europe, deal, no-deal, backstop or anything. He certainly doesn't care about us. But I believe he does want to be Prime Minister. Brexit is just an oportunity to him.

amandacarnet · 31/08/2019 18:46

I am abroad. This is being covered by news here and it is not flattering of Britain.

amandacarnet · 31/08/2019 18:47

By not flattering I mean it is showing the British government negatively. It was aired in the foreign news after the news about the Hong Kong protests.
Reputation matters.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/08/2019 19:11

I'd like to know when momentum will be paying me Wink

Really really well done everyone today.

We had some hecklers today - as well as some people who spoke for Brexit.

It must have taken a lot of guts for them to do that - but it was done peacefully. I can't imagine the reverse happening - I wouldn't even dare put up a pro-EU flag around where I leave.

I don't know where this is going - but I think the march on 19th October is going to be massive.

ListeningQuietly · 31/08/2019 19:20

I admit I did not put my badge on till I was clear of the football crowd

but I think the march on 19th October is going to be massive
With bells on
