People are meeting at College Green (just down the way from Parliament Square) this evening at 5:30 (and on I guess)

Saturday 31st there is a protest outside Downing street at 12pm. See photo.

I'll add any more that I see. Feel free to do the same.

Here's hoping that people are much more polite

People are mostly lovely, on these things.

It's great that there's one in Ipswich. So many different people from different parties and different views on stuff, seem to be joining in with this.

Just reposting OYBK's advice from earlier.

If you are worried about safety then my experience has been don't be smile People at these demos seem to be a very moderate bunch of people, especially during the day. I've never seen any trouble. Sometimes you do get Leavers who are there to cause a bit of aggro. If they get that way the police surround them astonishingly quickly. If any of them do get in your face a bit, just treat them like we do trolls here. Blank them. They aren't worth it

The police are there to protect people and keep things safe. Be polite and be nice to them. The ones wearing light blue are liaison officers and are especially approachable. We have a right to protest

Most of all, just be proud of yourself for standing up for our democracy. Take placards, whistles, drums, whatever you fancy, come along and peacefully (if noisily) protest

The most upsetting thing for me at these things is how young the police are. Grin

Hope the sun shines. Smile

Take warm clothing tomorrow, even in the south east if you are hanging about into the evening. Cold front moving south will be a bit of a shock.

I'm going to the London one tomorrow. I'll be walking to Downing Street from Charing Cross at about 11:15

PortiaCastis · 30/08/2019 21:48

I have to work tomorrow but just thought I'd say don't worry to anyone going to a protest on their own tomorrow, I went to the last People's March in London on my own from Cornwall and I was worried but it was fine, everybody was really freindly and helpful and if you get a bit stuck just put a post on here as I did and someone from here will help if they can.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/08/2019 22:43

I agree with you Portia :)

In the meantime, in the real world, here comes Boris' prorogation bounce from Survation (yes, that Survation):

twitter.com/britainelects/status/1167555445818580992

Westminster voting intention:

CON: 31% (+3)
LAB; 24% (-)
LDEM: 21% (-)
BREX: 14% (-1)

via @Survation, 29 - 30 Aug
Chgs. w/ 11 Aug

Peregrina · 31/08/2019 00:39

But then again in the real world:

CON: 33% (-1)
LAB; 22% (-)
LDEM: 21% (+4)
BREX: 12% (-1)
GRN: 7% (-1)

via @YouGov, 28 - 29 Aug
Chgs. w/ 28 Aug

Peregrina · 31/08/2019 00:44

So in one night both the Tories managed to lose 2% by the looks of it to the Brexit party, Labour gained 2%, LibDems stayed the same and we don't know how the Greens fared because only one poll included them.

I don't know who has the better track record - I thought YouGov tended to be the more accurate?

CendrillonSings · 31/08/2019 00:54

I'm sure the Tories at crying at YouGov putting them 11 points above Labour, and Labour only 1 point ahead of the Lib Dems. All while some people are working themselves into a frenzy over prorogation, organizing marches, and wailing about a dictatorship.

Where exactly is Labour gaining according to you?

woman19 · 31/08/2019 00:55

@britainelects
The government stopping Parliament from meeting between mid-September and mid-October is...

Acceptable: 31%
Not acceptable: 53%

Have a great day tomorrow folks. Smile

CendrillonSings · 31/08/2019 00:57

The government stopping Parliament from meeting between mid-September and mid-October is...

And if that question ever gets asked on an actual ballot paper, then those figures will be relevant...

woman19 · 31/08/2019 01:06

That question is uniting those of us who love the best of this country's representative democracy, beautifully. Smile.

Looking like it's the 'will of the people'. Wink

Night.

Tonnerre · 31/08/2019 01:14

I'm sure the Tories at crying at YouGov putting them 11 points above Labour, and Labour only 1 point ahead of the Lib Dems

Well, yes, they have good cause to worry, given that those figures mean that a Lab/Lib/ coalition would be well ahead of them.

PostNotInHaste · 31/08/2019 06:08

Really heartening to wake and see that list. Good luck today everyone 😊 Really pleased to be able to get out and do my bit .

Whatever happens and however much people try to blame those of us who want the opportunity to express our feelings on this, we will always know we have tried. Whether it will help only time will tell at this point but I am so pleased to see people pulling together, gives me hope.

PostNotInHaste · 31/08/2019 06:48

It will be interesting to see what the press coverage of today is, here but also whether it is reported elsewhere.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/08/2019 07:06

Good morning all :)

Raincoats or umbrellas today please, potentially even in the SE for a little bit. Today's cold front will be bringing rain with it. It may not fizzle out totally as you can see in the series of screen shots (timed at 12, 4 and 7pm) After it's gone through there will be a drop in temperature. Be prepared so you don't need to go home early!

I thought Democracy was one of the Leavers cry? Why aren't they supporting Parliamentary Democracy?

I do hope it's reported internationally.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/08/2019 07:13

That's a brilliant list!!!

Can we keep general Brexity things such as election surveys to other topics please? They are really interesting, but it's better to keep this thread to protest talk to make it easier for people to find what they need.

I'm going to the Winchester one today. Does anyone know where you can get an EU flag on the high street?
