People are meeting at College Green (just down the way from Parliament Square) this evening at 5:30 (and on I guess)

Saturday 31st there is a protest outside Downing street at 12pm. See photo.

I'll add any more that I see. Feel free to do the same.

Who has organised the protests? There's one organised on the map for my town but I can't find any information about it elsewhere (fb etc).
I wouldn't want to be on my lonesome.

Cappucinoextrachocolate · 30/08/2019 10:32

I can't keep up, this thread is moving too fast for me. If I can't meet up with anyone coming through Victoria, maybe I will join you those coming through Waterloo. I am quite keen to join a group, if possible, as I am quite nervous to go on my own.

Windsor protest, Saturday 31st August, 10am -1pm Eton Bridge, Windsor SL4 6AA Organised by Defend Democracy-Windsor

Cappucino and Tap I'd say go to local ones if London is difficult, or if you prefer, write to MPs, local papers and donate to food banks; it all helps. Smile and thanks. Flowers

PostNotInHaste · 30/08/2019 11:02

TapDanceJazzHands I think it will depend where you are. Ours is organised by Dorset for Europe, a local group who organise coaches up to the London marches but this time are organising the local one.

PostNotInHaste · 30/08/2019 11:10

Local ones very important, it’s the first time anything has happened like this on this level. Was really surprised to see how many more events on the map this morning.

It means people who struggle to get to the big London marches get to go and have a voice. As Woman says, if you can’t get to one (it is short notice) then letter writing and food bank donations all make a difference. Getting people to sign the petition is another .

Great to see people pulling together Smile

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 30/08/2019 11:35

Hopefully going to the London one tomorrow. Probably coming through Waterloo depending on trains.

THIS SUNDAY AT 13:00 Defend Democracy Church Street, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire

Deleting my post up thread, as checking on picture reproduction Blush: but Westminster looks huge from last night, nevertheless. Smile

Christmastree43 · 30/08/2019 13:45

Hello, is anyone going to Nottingham tomorrow? I’m planning to but would love to have someone to meet up with! Feel free to PM me

woman19 · 30/08/2019 15:47

Bit of light relief: (hopefully)
Shelagh Fogharty presenter on LBC has just had a short phone in on the HRT shortages, and has suggested that we have a special quarter of us proud menopausal women on the protests.

Yes, I agree the local ones are important. Smile It's great to see so many people coming out to have their voices heard and the local ones really allow that. It's also really useful as we're coming up to school restarting and travelling long distance isn't always an option.

Also, to add to earlier in the thread, for those reading who might be considering coming to a protest/rally (local or larger), we have been to lots of protests - though we pick carefully when bringing ds. We've found that most people are really welcoming to any children who come, often stopping to chat. Our ds loves a rally as he gets to shout his socks off to his heart's content. The larger marches can occasionally get a tad stumbly in the middle at times, but DH puts ds on his shoulders or we walk at the sides for bit where it's quieter. We've brought picnics before and, like previous posters, have also nipped to a cafe. We also always have snacks and drinks and plasters/blister plasters for longer marches. Some of the things we've picked up along the way are to bring toys that can be played with on the go, or a maraca/couple of wooden spoons to bang etc. that help keep him enjoying it and in the mood. Glow sticks/light toys can be good if later in the evening. We also use those super light aluminium broom handles for any placards etc. as they are much easier to carry and ds can carry it for a bit if he wants. The placards given out can be on quite splintered wood, so aren't always practical for little ones to carry. We did a Highway Trump (Highway Rat) sign together and stuck it on the end of a metal broom handle and it went down a treat, he carried it for most of the way. If we are bringing a teddy, then we always tie it to his wrist/coat/buggy in case it gets dropped. We usually dress him in something we can see easily as a precaution (yellow raincoat, bright tshirt etc), he's never been lost in a crowd so far but I always feel better safe than sorry. Sorry, if most of these things have already been mentioned!

As a sidenote, food banks are often really in needs of feminine hygiene products and loo roll, which could also be a real help at the moment, but often get forgotten.

My local one is Brighton. Is anyone going? I guess the alternative is to go to a group and shamelessly ask if I can join them...

Already donating to food banks but I am not doing it regularly enough.

woman19 · 30/08/2019 17:43

@Cappucinoextrachocolate, my family and I are going to be at Victoria at 11.30 - very happy to meet you and walk with you to Downing Street.

DarkNoise · 30/08/2019 20:26

PM if you'd like to meet.

MsMarvellous · 30/08/2019 20:43

I'm up to three of us going into Newcastle tomorrow. The Facebook group updated the time to 11am

Nacreous · 30/08/2019 20:45

We will be heading to a protest in Ipswich tomorrow, so there will definitely be friendly faces about the place.

Ipswich was a leave voting constituency though so I am a little nervous: local paper comments are pretty unpleasant and that's just reporting the potential protest. Here's hoping that people are much more polite once they don't have a keyboard to hide behind.
