Brexit

Am I the only one?

I have been reading with interest all the threads on this board. Am I the only who cannot believe the tone, content and the sheer catastrophe thinking about this issue? Reading threads about stockpiling and falling out with family and friends over this strikes me as strange. Historically, there a many, many more events that have had a humanitarian impact on the world ... Brexit is not one of these! There may, or may not, be an economic impact of Brexit, but will people die? Get killed? Be oppressed? There needs to be some perspective here.

HerSymphonyAndSong
other countries have some sort of duty of care towards us and that we are entitled to aid and airlifts etc

Sanofi are probably protecting their market/business at the same time.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 18/08/2019 11:08

Ah you are missing the point, bless you

I am not disputing planning for mass graves as part of a general pandemic preparations - I am disputing your post, "a shortage of flu vaccines due to Brexit - and you could be looking at 100s of thousands of extra deaths."

You’ve not read the Sunday Times today then?
I have read part of a document of unknown date/source - I have linked to a named and dated source that reassures me that the supply of flu vaccines is not going to be a problem.

Clavinova · 18/08/2019 11:24

as part of general pandemic preparations

jasjas1973 · 18/08/2019 11:26

Brexit means Airlifts..... how reassuring

Last resort - “If we have to in the end, we will airlift it in."

Again, massive missing the point!

Brexit and the October leave date are entirely voluntary.

I do think Clav, that posting on here is just a game to you.

bellinisurge · 18/08/2019 11:34

I'm sure Clav will have to "pop out" in a moment. It usually coincides with them being called out .

ContinuityError · 18/08/2019 11:35

Clavinova nice selective quoting of my post from 09.28 - what I actually posted in its entirety:

Add in a flu pandemic - and a shortage of flu vaccines due to Brexit - and you could be looking at 100s of thousands of extra deaths.

ContinuityError · 18/08/2019 11:39

From March - when we were still due to leave on the 29th. Since flu vaccines aren’t required in April, airlifting in supplies during the immediate post Brexit crash out is an easy offer to make.

Let’s hope the UK manages to stockpile vaccines in September and October then, ready for the October and November flu jab season?

Why would it be a game?

I've just googled 'Liberal Democrats' and 'game' - my hunch was correct;

Beating the Conservatives in every region in the UK, and the Labour Party across the country. The Lib Dems are back in the game.

Sanofi mentioned that - they know;

"He told the programme: “You can’t stockpile it (the vaccine) because it’s made at a particular time of the year and it’s only available to import in the month at the end of August/beginning of September,” he said."

ContinuityError · 18/08/2019 11:47

Just as well TM asked for an extension then?

ContinuityError · 18/08/2019 11:49

According to the BBC report linked earlier, No 10 aren’t exactly denying the Sunday Times report either:

The government said the document was not what it expected to happen, but was an outline of scenarios being looked at as part of its no-deal preparations.

Mamamia456 · 18/08/2019 12:21

KenDodd - Pandemic of Spanish Flu? Do you think the EU are going to use biological warfare as revenge for us leaving?

bellinisurge · 18/08/2019 12:28

@Mamamia456 , now what on Earth are you on about?

Mamamia456 · 18/08/2019 12:50

Read KenDodd's Post.

Helmetbymidnight · 18/08/2019 13:00

Read KenDodd's Post.

Errrrrr

How on earth did you interpret KenDodd's post as saying the EU might use biological warfare as revenge for us leaving?!!

SistemaAddict · 18/08/2019 13:07

That report was leaked back in March I seem to remember so it's not new. It's just been re "leaked" to reach those who dismissed it the first time round or weren't aware; and to try and forewarn the it'll all be fiiinne brigade. Or you know, just to scaremonger.

People are scared of change, good as well as bad. It’s human nature.

Mamamia456 · 18/08/2019 13:12

Bellingsurge and Helmet - It was meant to be tongue in cheek, thought you'd see it for the joke it was, maybe different written down than spoken.

Jason118 · 18/08/2019 13:27

@Wiltshirelass2019 People are scared of change, good as well as bad. It’s human nature.
Errrr, why would people be scared of a good change - that's nonsense. Uncertainty maybe, and shit hitting the fan change absolutely, but isn't Brexit supposed to be the great enabler for our country to stride behemoth like across the world stage? So maybe people see that outcome for the fallacy it is, and see the advancing no deal shitstorm for the realistic pile of undesirable outcomes that it is.

Helmetbymidnight · 18/08/2019 15:30

ah perhaps wiltshirelass can tell us some of the good changes she is looking forward to with a no deal brexit?

Mistigri · 18/08/2019 15:34

That report was leaked back in March I seem to remember so it's not new

I think this is new, or at least updated. Some of the detail in the Times refers to the preparedness situation being worse than in March.

prettybird · 18/08/2019 16:04

It's obvious: we're all scared of the "benefit" of blue passports Wink

Schwibble · 18/08/2019 21:34

It could be a very miserable Christmas this year for many people.

"There may be trouble ahead..."

Helmetbymidnight · 19/08/2019 07:31

People are scared of change, good as well as bad

wiltshire? any chance of telling us about all those good changes?
