Im currently chopping a pineapple for the dehydrator. My favourite.

Homebargins do vacuum packed corn on the cobs. Really good price at 89p for two whole cobs with an 18 month date on them and they're delicious. They take half the time to cook and are filling. I know corn doesn't technically count as veg but its still getting vitamins into the DC.

Bellini do the limes not damage the smoothness of the plastic on your dehydrator trays? I did lemon peel a while ago & although it worked really well, the citrus marked all the plastic bits it came into contact with. I'm too afraid to do any more citrus things in there now!

@AwdBovril I did a load of lemons recently with no ill effects on the plastic. Also made orange fruit leather with no ill effects.
I try and loosen the stuff as soon as it will loosen and clean the trays immediately after use to pack away. No idea if that is the way to avoid problems, it's just what I do.

I'm going to fill up the car with enough petrol to drive us to mum's and just eat her mountains of frozen food-2 chest freezers full, just for her 😂. Otoh, was the leaked thing saying 3 months of hardship? I've bought water purification tablets from Amazon for £2

@flouncyfanny - cheers!
I'm not much on cocktails, despite the username but I may investigate things to do with gin in a cocktail- what juices go, for example.

I know that's probably a joke but that isn't really your plan is it? Its really selfish to rely on someone else's efforts and it could also be problematic travelling.

And here they are. Limes for the gin and tonic part of my stockpile. Big slices in one jar and bits of lime (product of my slicing non-expertise) in the other. House smelled delicious while it was dehydrating. And then the garage did because I had to move the dehydrator Grin.

Boots seemed to have other Aveeno products on sale, too. I bought some Aveeno lotion in preparation for dry autumn/winter skin.

All this dehydration talk is wearing me down drip by drip. Give it another year or two and I might eventually get into it... :)

@GoneWishing don't worry, it's mostly me and a couple of prepper stalwarts . It's not a Brexit essential.

Although it is cool if you don't mind the Eddie from Friends jokes Saves space in your freezer. And is cheap equipment. Grin

@bellinisurge - I know, but I've been reading you write about it since last summer and it's starting to have an effect... (I do still forever here the Dehydrating Maniac! in my head.) I might have been looking into dehydrators, but so far haven't got one. Partly out of remembering how I hated DM's "soup mix" of dried vegetables we used to have...

@GoneWishing , I won't try and convert you. It's more a general prepper thing.Grin

Ok, I think I am going to have to try doing dehydrated orange segments. For DD, obviously. She's obsessed with the pineapple, so maybe she'll like the orange too. Our local fancy chocolate shop does amazing dried orange segments half dipped in chocolate... they are bloody fantastic & sell for quite a lot of money!

Sainsbury's currently has milk and plain chocolate oranges for £1 each. I may have bought one or three Wink - stocking fillers for Christmas. Xmas Smile

Superdrug has loads of vitamins on sale so I've got children's multi and D for the winter, plus their own brand deodorants which were 2 for 1.

kjhkj Don't worry, it was a joke! She's a general hoarder and every time we go to visit her, we have to empty her cupboards and fridge of out of date stuff she's bought. She's not brexit prepping she just likes to go to the shops and buys more than she needs.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/08/2019 20:07

Ooh, that's good re the plain chocolate oranges. Nowhere has had those at £1 that I've found so far!

Report
prettybird · 20/08/2019 22:31

Even better: I was trying to spend £40 on things I needed (ie not for the sake of it Wink) in order to get £6 off!

So in addition to the plain chocolate oranges, I also got more loo roll, kitchen paper, cling film (which also got me 400 bonus nectar points Smile)....and some 90% Lindt chocolate and Mackies Honeycomb chocolate which is to die for

Also stocked up on own brand Darjeeling loose tea and Twinings Early Grey loose tea (we drink a 50:50 blend) - so all suitable for the stockpile.

Now need to get my next set of Sainsbury's vouchers and/or some Tesco ones Grin

This week is my last Sainsbury's discount voucher. I'll have to go elsewhere for a few weeks until they entice me back!

I've just read that there's a £5 off £25 voucher for Lidl in the Metro on Thursday this week. Good for stockpile purposes!
