I can see the point if it's medicines or medical supplies, but I've seen a few threads here where people are stashing tuna, toilet rolls and sweets!?

Are you all fucking mad?

I'm a total remainder but come on, I know it'll be shit but you'll still find asda and tesco will be open

@TheElementsSong
Fantastic Grin

It was odd @flouncyfanny - the ice cubes ffs. That kind of mentality really worries me if things run scarce. Actual things people need.

SistemaAddict · 31/07/2019 22:02

Are you missing the bit about no trade deal if no deal?

Trade doesn't stop because of no-deal.

No, but it becomes more complex Clavinova and prices will rise due to tariffs needing to be paid on goods.

I reckon Clavinova has got a stash but will never admit to it. Either way there's no risk of us preppers bumping into her Grin

Clavinova · 31/07/2019 22:39

prices will rise due to tariffs needing to be paid on goods.

It depends on the goods - 87% of goods will be tariff free coming in to the UK under the (proposed) temporary tariff regime - 83% of imported goods are tariff free under WTO in any case.

Also, what kind of lazy person buys ice cubes (and why do supermarkets even sell that - what a waste of resources) by the time i'd get it home i'd have a bag of warm water!

I can buy a bag of ice cubes much quicker than making them. It’s not for putting in drinks but more for having in an ice bucket, so you need lots. I’m only 5 minutes from a supermarket so it wouldn’t be a bag of water.

Oh. I’ve just realised. I literally have a port at the bottom of my garden (seriously, I’m not kidding here). Come Halloween the leaves will be off the tree and I’ll be able to see it. I shall send reports.

@TheElementsSong

Outstanding (and hilarious). I am saving this to read when it all gets a bit too much.

AutumnCrow · 31/07/2019 22:45

@TheElementsSong I have rarely seen such a beautiful piece of prose, and to see it on this thread is a fucking privilege.

AutumnCrow · 31/07/2019 22:48

It's only Dover/Calais that might have delays - the other ports around the country are not expecting problems - in fact they are hoping to profit from Brexit

Clav baby, this time next year in Heysham and Portsmouth they'll all be millionaires, right? Grin

BrendasUmbrella · 01/08/2019 01:41

Those who think making any preparations are "bonkers", what do you think Boris's Brexit preparations leaflet will say?

Could someone explain why, if there are likely to be delays at Dover/Calais, that there will not be the same at other ports?
Have they done more extensive planning for no deal?

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 06:42

@Clavinova why is the government spending £21 BILLION on no Deal preparations if prepping for Brexit is such a mad idea?

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 06:43

That should be 2.1. It would be utter lunacy to spend 22 , right?

What a brilliant piece of writing TheElements! Absolute genius.

When the government start telling people to stockpile (which they'll have to if they really are serious about No Deal) it'll be interesting Hmm to see how quickly all the leavers start saying how it's the only sensible option and they were going to do it all along.

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 08:08

Oo @flouncyfanny , I found an old pound coin the other day. I could buy a pony, a Porsche, a new hair cut, a bigger house AND a trampoline with it. Grin
