Westministenders: A New Approach? No chance.

Next week we will have a new PM. He will be called Boris Johnson unless something very odd has happened.

His first 72 hours will be 'interesting' especially if today's events are anything to go by.

His Cabinet is sure to be a horror show. It was noticable who abstained today - they don't think they will be in a Johnson Cabinet and clearly don't want to be.

To move forward Johnson must be able to survive a rebellion and a Queen's speech before now and 31st October.

And be able to unit his party in order to find a way forward.

And whilst parliament has voted to block proroguing parliament, it could still be dissolved if there is a vote of no confidence.

And what happens if Johnson loses a vote? Will he manage to become PM? Will there be a GE.

All the signs are that next week is going to be a hell of a ride.

Enjoy your weekend.

If you're anywhere near me, I can give you the bricks and slab. Anything for Hubert! 😂

That's a good idea re the lid. I bloody skipped a compost dalek lid last week at the allotment. Bugger.

He does have a peanut butter tub on its side with some water in.

The @PhilipHammondUK justification for a Chancellor breaking with the Prime Minister
.....
Philip Hammond*@PhilipHammondUK*

The Conservative Party has always, at its core, had a fundamental belief in the importance of strong institutions
– and in a representative democracy there can be no more vital institution than it’s Parliament. 1/2

It should not be controversial to believe that Parliament be allowed to sit, and have a say, during a key period in our country’s history. 2/2

I'm pretty sure he is a frog TBH. He looks lovely and shiney and healthy so he must be commuting for his water time, he's obviously not skinny or dehydrated- looks fab

So my MP started off as a key person for Remain. And has now sold out to the extent of voting to allow proroguing.

What is the point in sacking anyone. They'll be on the back benches dishing out the gossip from the last 3 years of May's government from next week.

It will be fascinating to see Phillip Hammond speaking freely without the constraints of office

Hammond, Gauke and Stewart are planning to resign rather than be sacked by Johnson in a reshuffle. Clark isn't expecting to keep his job either.

Zero point in May sacking...

the most surprising name on the list of 17 rebels is Keith Simpson, who told @jessicaelgot that he has NEVER rebelled before - bear in mind that he entered the Commons 22 years ago

Jessica Elgot*@jessicaelgot*
Keith Simpson tells me it’s the first time he has rebelled in his entire parliamentary career. “Turns out, you can get a taste for it,” he says.

John Rentoul @johnrentoul
Keith Simpson, who voted for Benn amendment, not on my list of anti-no-dealer Tory MPs; nor were these 10 who did not vote

List:
Peter Bottomly
Cheryl Gillian
Zac Goldsmith
John Hayes
Caroline Johnson
Gilligan Keegan
Huw Merriman
Matthew Offord
Julian Sturdy
Tom Tungenhat

That list really does look like there is trouble ahead.

Interestingly my MP who is a member of the ERG abstained.

It's still unclear to me how many of the Tory abstentions were paired. Anyone know? Hunt was a 'mistake' others clearly not but I've heard nothing about the vast majority

EXCLUSIVE: Senior Tories seeking to block no-deal Brexit are examining a radical plan involving the Queen.

Such a request would be regarded as the most extraordinary political step in her 67-year reign, our political editor says

My MP is, naturally, on the list of lunatics voting to prorogue, because he is an utter disgrace.

Last ever 'this week' tonight.

I confess that I don't like Andrew Neil but he's a loss to the BBC precisely for that reason.

And I do begrudgingly like this week for its sheer awfulness at times and those sequences where you just go wtf.

The best cringe was Neil and Portillo dancing ridiculously whilst Bobby Gillespie from primal scream sat stoney faced watching them.

Will strangely miss it.

Omg Piers Morgan is talking about democracy and tribalism and how we are locked in entrenchment where we have to be right rather that debate, and I'm just nodding along.

(ugh I feel dirty)

This is why I like This week though tbh.

It's kind of uncomfortable.

Until HoC start talking about what they will sign we are looking at No Deal regardless. I'm frustrated they aren't planning something more useful tbh. Going over WA and discussing it's pros/cons would be a good start...
