buffy My link upthread reported that about 30 Labour MPs who had voted against the WA would now support it, or at least abstain.
Maybe some Tories - who dont agree with "Fuck Business" - would switch too

As red posted, who knows if the WA would pass on 31 October.

Main roadblock there is that BJ doesn't want the WA (because of the backstop) and won't even try to pass it:
it's No Deal or bust
.... um well, it'll be it's No Deal THEN bust

Iambuffy · 03/07/2019 19:26

That's what he's saying on the hustings bcf
Is that what he actually thinks/will do?

1tisILeClerc · 03/07/2019 19:29

{Marginally, perhaps, but pass.}
Anything more than about 3.5 % is a HUGE majority, practically 100% really.

On the assumption that some sort of leave happens on 1 Nov the chances are the exchange rates will go bananas so supermarkets would like you to all your shopping ASAP, cos it looks good for their profits. Everyone is 'playing games' these days.
How many of your family can you get huddled around a mince pie with a 'Christmas scene' perched on it, in the dark because the French have pulled the plug on the electricity due to BoJo refusing to pay the Brexit bill?

BigChocFrenzy · 03/07/2019 19:32

The new PM, like May, will be concentrating on surviving each day, so no longterm planning

Other than sucking up to the ERG and the Orange Peril With Small Hands

It's possible - if unlikely - that BJ won't even be able to command the "confidence" of the HoC,
in which case we'd have a GE,
with May as caretaker until a new govt can be formed from within probably a new hung Parliament

Iambuffy · 03/07/2019 19:33

the orange peril with the small hands

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thank you.

BigChocFrenzy · 03/07/2019 19:37

No Deal would cause Stering to plummet, maybe another 12%, maybe a lot more ?

I don't know how much food - and raw materials, components etc - is bought in advance in Sterling and how much in Euros or dollars
The last 2 would mean higher prices

Also, the rating agencies are expected to lower the UKs rating again if No Deal happens, which might help fuel a run on Sterling

Iambuffy · 03/07/2019 19:50

I guess thos is why redwood etc have been telling their rich mates to move their money to euros then?

Elections regulator criticised for 'withholding' Brexit papers

The Electoral Commission hits back at the allegations, which it calls "unfounded, misleading and incorrect".

By Sam Coates, deputy political editor

Wednesday 3 July 2019 19:15, UK

BREXIT

The Electoral Commission has been accused of withholding documents from the Metropolitan Police about the conduct the Leave campaign during the 2016 referendum, prompting an extraordinary spat between the two organisations.
The Met has been challenged by MPs and campaigners over why it has not yet charged anyone in connection with the wrongdoing uncovered by the elections regulator into two of the organisations which campaigned for Brexit.

A Leave.EU official, Elizabeth Bilney, and two figures from Vote Leave, Darren Grimes and David Halsall, were referred to the police in 2018 - but no action to date has been taken.

A six-page letter from a solicitor for the Met, obtained by Sky News, suggests that the Electoral Commission failed to disclose all relevant documents, delayed the police's ability to get hold of them and has not gathered evidence to the standards required.
It says: "The Metropolitan Police formed the view that the Electoral Commission has not disclosed all of the documents in its possession or control that are potentially relevant to its investigation.

"The Met has sought further disclosure from the commission on a number of occasions.
"Some further disclosure has been provided to the commission.

"The Met has a disclosure request outstanding with the commission.
"The commission remains of the view that the commission has not disclosed all of the documents in its possession or control that are potentially revelation to the Met investigation."

It prompted a furious response from the commission which said the allegations were "unfounded, misleading and incorrect".
A spokesperson told Sky News: "This a startling argument, put forward as part of an organisation's defence of its record on timely investigatory work.
"It is also directly contrary to recent positive comment made by the Metropolitan Police commissioner about collaborative working between our organisations.
"We are writing to her to seek urgent assurance of her position in relation to this correspondence."

If you like confluences, the Murdoch angle seems interesting when viewed against the apparent Harry/Meghan backlash and people discussing the Monarchy ...

Hello? Everyone's gone very quiet.

tobee · 04/07/2019 00:00

Anyway, what I haven't heard many people talk about is the propensity for The Public to panic in times of crisis. Bread shortages, milk, sprouts, cranberry sauce etc from panic buying can break out very quickly. What the hell will happen in the event of No Deal?

Even if there's not a massive drop in sterling, log jams at the ports people will panic anyway.

I suppose you could say people aren't talking about it to not put it into people's heads. Which would be responsible. But the media isn't very good at being responsible if a good story is to be had. Sad

Ellie56 · 04/07/2019 01:50

Everyone's gone very quiet.

I think we're all rendered speechless by the lunatic ravings of Boris and the disgraceful behaviour of the Brexit Party in Brussels.

mathanxiety · 04/07/2019 05:27

Speaking personally, I am holding my breath for Trump's big imperial Fourth of July parade.

mathanxiety · 04/07/2019 05:31

DGR
On the one hand I imagine Brexiteers are gagging for the UK to tell China to shove it - maybe we could sail a gunboat up the Yangtze ?

On the other hand (of course) we need China an awful lot more as the UK than as the UKinEU ....

And there is also (on the left foot perhaps?) the North Korea angle.

I am pretty sure if Trump has to choose between sucking up to China or backing the UK with a background of his talks with North Korea (his only chance to leave an admirable legacy) he will choose China because China's relationship with North Korea is going to make or break the talks.

Belated best wishes to you, BCF Cake Wine Flowers

Love the look of those flammkuchen.

The Express would've been the perfect paper to run that particular story with the 'arrrgghhhhh' tone necessary. Had it not been the ardent 'leave at all costs' paper. It could've taken over from the weather / Diana / house price stories it so loves!

Maybe the Mail will get it out there, given the leanings of the editor. I suspect it will remain as 'Project Fear' until it happens though. At which point there'll be outrage / carnage, but it'll be too late then!

If you are concerned about keeping out of the way of panic buyers @tobee , there's lots of info here on MN. The threads have been quiet recently but you might want to have a root around them. I can dig out some links if you like or you can of course start your own. Focus is on proportionate, budget friendly and sensible. The opposite of panic, in fact.

Well I have cranberry sauce in the fridge that I made last year, which I’m sure is maturing nicely. So no worries about cranberry panics here!

NoWordForFluffy · 04/07/2019 07:27

If you're a planning type of person, I think that Christmas won't actually be too much of a problem as loads can be bought before 31 October. It's the day-to-day stuff that bothers me more (and I'll be forward-purchasing for as well, as much as I can, as well as for Christmas).

I don't like cranberry sauce so I won't have any cranberry panics either.

Happy Birthday BCF!

Hello? Everyone's gone very quiet.

I'll hopefully be back next week. No broadband atm. Though it looks like we have found another gremlin that might scupper that. No phone line to the house.

(Belated) Happy Birthday BCF, from another July birthday person (later in the month). My birthday treat this year is four days in France!

GaspodeWonderCat · 04/07/2019 08:52

"fed up and fucked off" at the state of the labour party. Not the only one ...

Corbyn is the leader; he is responsible for setting the tone, direction and policies of the party. If he doesn't like things, change them or quit and let someone else try to change things in the party/country ...
Labour 18% LDems 20%. WTAF!

ZazieTheCat · 04/07/2019 08:58

Hunt and his “serious consequences” remind me of the end of the film “Giant”. When a Rock Hudson stands up to a racist man in a diner on behalf of a Hispanic family being harassed , and gets knocked on his ass, because he is neither the big deal nor the physical champion he once was. The UK is Bick Benedict.
