I'm also not seeing the issue with bright coordinated t-shirts clearly expressing disapproval with Brexit.
Less keen on shouting though.

derxa · 02/07/2019 13:40

I am so beyond ashamed of this country. I'm not

borntobequiet · 02/07/2019 13:41

The Bollocks to Brexit T-shirts are borderline poor taste, not least because that's a very unflattering yellow, but there is no equivalence whatsoever between LD MEPs wearing them and the behaviour of the Brexit Party.

dreichuplands · 02/07/2019 13:44

I also think that the EU are well aware that Farage is a petty and unpleasant individual who enjoys pulling disrespectful publicity stunts, it's nothing new.
They are also aware that this group doesn't speak for the whole of the UK.
(Privately agree the yellow t-shirts aren't flattering or stylish)

{The Bollocks to Brexit T-shirts are borderline poor taste, not least because that's a very unflattering yellow,}

Agree the 'Boll%%%%' should not have been used and the yellow is rather garish but they do make a good point.
Just loving the 'outrage' combined with the hypocrisy of the comments in that 'Express' article.

1tisILeClerc · 02/07/2019 13:47

{I also think that the EU are well aware that Farage is a petty and unpleasant individual who enjoys pulling disrespectful publicity stunts}
There have been clips of Farage and UKIPPERS in Brussels having shouting matches and being generally disruptive.

Scotch whisky targeted by new US tariffs

Scotch whisky is among the products targeted by the US for a possible range of new tariffs on imported goods.

The US has threatened to impose tariffs on European Union imports worth up to $4bn (£3.2bn), although it is not known when tariffs would be imposed.

Whiskey from Ireland, cheeses including Parmesan and Gouda, pasta and olives are other items affected.

The US Trade Representative said it was "in response to harm caused by EU aircraft subsidies".

In April, the US announced proposed tariffs on $11bn of EU goods.

The moves are part of a 15-year dispute at the World Trade Organization between the US and EU over subsidies given to plane-makers Airbus, from Europe, and the US's Boeing.

The United States is the world's largest export market for Scotch whisky by value - £1.04bn in 2018. By volume, it is the second largest, with 137 million 70cl bottles exported last year.

A spokesperson for the Scotch Whisky Association told the BBC: "Exports of Scotch whisky to the US have been zero tariff for 20 years, so it is disappointing that Scotch whisky has been drawn into this dispute.

"The Scotch whisky industry has consistently opposed the imposition of tariffs, which harms economies on both sides of the Atlantic which depend on trade for their continued prosperity.

"There is a close relationship between the US whiskies and Scotch whisky, not least due to the use of bourbon casks for maturation which generates around £70m for the US economy each year.

"We continue to urge the UK government, the EU and the US government to resolve this situation."

Scotch whisky makes up 12% of the total whiskey market in the United States, with US whiskey accounting for 48%.
'Negative impact'

The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States warned that the move may harm both jobs and consumers in the country.

"We strongly oppose the inclusion of distilled products in the proposed retaliation list," said spokeswoman Lisa Hawkins.

"US companies - from farmers to suppliers to retailers - are already being negatively impacted by the imposition of retaliatory tariffs by key trading partners on certain US distilled spirits.

"These additional tariffs will only inflict further harm," she said.

I thought we were worried about the impression we were giving the rest of the world by displaying our political views in an inappropriate way. I didn’t realise it would only apply to the side you didn’t agree with. Double standards much.

TheElementsSong · 02/07/2019 14:22

I thought we were worried about the impression we were giving the rest of the world by displaying our political views in an inappropriate way.

Because wearing T-shirts is just as bad as behaving like the Nazi Party in the Reichstag Hmm

LisaMontgomery · 02/07/2019 14:35

Even football fans usually manage to respect the anthems. Bloody embarrassing that our elected MEPs can't even do it.

dreichuplands · 02/07/2019 14:37

Turning your back on an anthem being played is profoundly disrespectful.
Wearing rather garish, ill fitting T-shirts is unstylish.
There is a significant difference between them.
Bollocks is a crude word but having that on the back of your T-shirt isn't the same as turning your back on an anthem playing.

tobee · 02/07/2019 15:12

In other news my ds has messaged me from our local town centre to say he saw a woman wearing a Trump 2020 t shirt with something about "make liberals cry again". So looking forward to our government having an ever closer relationship with the current White House. Hmm

Ellie56 · 02/07/2019 15:13

I think the EU should suspend them for showing such disrespect. Angry

BigChocFrenzy · 02/07/2019 15:40

The right really hate liberals
So the hate will be returned
Ddidn't used to be like this

LonelyTiredandLow · 02/07/2019 15:42

Was stuck behind a lady with a 'VOTE LEAVE' car sticker practically in the middle of her rear window today. Next to a decal of a guinea pig Hmm. I guess she didn't understand the need to look behind her - which sums it all up really!

BigChocFrenzy · 02/07/2019 15:42

I feel ashamed and embarassed to be British, just like I do when English football fans boo a national anthem or trash somewhere

LonelyTiredandLow · 02/07/2019 15:49

I feel more ashamed every year this debacle goes on; with ever increasing reasons. I think it is partly why I have chosen to stay here this year. I apologised to a German tourist just after the ref because he was being very kind and helping me with dd and bags - at the time he semi-shrugged as if it wasn't so bad. I hope he remembers that every time 'we' do something offensive, arrogant, idiotic and selfish.

DGRossetti · 02/07/2019 15:51

One reason why I cross my fingers when I am told we can't call some Leavers thick racists.

For lovers of "you couldn't make it up irony" there's an Easter Egg at the foot of the story .....

A man told a black betting shop employee "when Brexit comes you will be gone" after he became impatient when collecting winnings, a court heard.

(contd)

Iambuffy · 02/07/2019 15:54

Christ.

tobee · 02/07/2019 15:57

Some days I feel like the entire population of this country is John Keogh

ComeAndDance · 02/07/2019 16:00

So UKIP as associate are doing what they they wouod do. Be as disruptive as possible to the EP.
I would ignore them . Ignore their antics like you ignore a toddler having a tantrum. Just like you ignore their tantrums at the time it took them to go Strasbourg or the iPad they were given to ...gasp.... work!!
The more air time we give them, the better it is for them. And the more they can reinforce their view.

rosie39forever · 02/07/2019 16:03

Disgusting behaviour I have emailed one of my MEPs (ms Rees-Mogg) to tell her what an embarrassment they are and ask if she will be protesting her salary, expenses and pension, not holding my breath for a reply.

LonelyTiredandLow · 02/07/2019 16:04

The worrying thing is what Farage et al will do when people with different skin tones stay after Brexit. I suspect a large proportion of the core supporters see a white future for UK after Brexit...

Well as long as enough of them get taken to court and fined (as above) it might be a new 'industry'.
