Unfortunately, these toddlers can vote in the EP
and use EP money to build up fascist sympathisers in other countres too

  • difficult for the EU to ignore the liability that the UK often is

Another reminder to E27 heads of govt who are wavering over whether to grant another extension, if requested

Good try but it is 'old news' and as we discussed yesterday or the day before, the actual regulations haven't been defined yet, unless you can uncover information that is available and current.

DGRossetti · 02/07/2019 16:21

There's also enough irony to spare in that the BXP MEPs behaviour will certainly be noted by the EU when it comes to deciding any terms of the extension the UK might request.

I'm vaguely reminded of a customer who got really upset when my DF had the audacity to charge him VAT for his car repair (quite amazing how elastic some peoples definition of "law abiding" is). He made a big fuss, and then got even more surprised when my DF suddenly requested cash instead of the cheque he was waving. I was about 14 and had the job of explaining it to the policeman who phoned up Grin I could hear the customer in the background suddenly agreeing that of course he had to pay VAT like everyone else and of course my DF was allowed to ask for cash if he liked.

It was a fascinating education in the English class system to see who was the most flexibly minded when it came to "the law" with the resultant conclusions having stood in good stead for 30+ years. Let's put it this way: I know how the well off stay well off .....

BigChocFrenzy · 02/07/2019 16:23

Trade deals generally have winners and few losers, because we don't have an infinitely increasing consumer market
e.g the Japan trade deal and some car factories

However, there is overall benefit for both sides, or the deal will not be approved

  • any EU member govt, parliament or regional parliament can veto it / demand renegotation

Back in 1972, Sinn Fein / IRA campaigned in the Irish Referendum against joining the then Common Market
They only changed their views over the years because the EU became so popular in Ireland - and since the ref, polls show over 90% of voters want to Remain

BigChocFrenzy · 02/07/2019 16:25

The UK is desperate to roll over all the EU trade deals, including the recent Japan and South American ones,

because they are of significant benefit

DGRossetti · 02/07/2019 16:32

The UK is desperate to roll over all the EU trade deals, including the recent Japan and South American ones,

Which does start bringing up the underfloor lighting towards a BINO solution ....

Windinthewillows05 · 02/07/2019 16:40

Sorry didn’t realise yesterday’s news was old news. Must remember that when I see links posted from years ago, still doesn’t change the news that the EU have made a deal that will cause job losses for their own members unless Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina have recently joined?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/07/2019 16:41

The Brexit party MEPs are utterly shameful. I can only conclude that they are now actively trying to repeat history.

prettybird · 02/07/2019 16:50

The reason that NF's Turquoise Party's Nazi lite disrespectful protest being reduced in its effectiveness because they were up in the Gods rather than down near the front was because Faragit failed to pull together a grouping in his image across a number of European countries that he can lead. This means that he doesn't get prime position near the front Smile and he doesn't get the additional funding that being the leader of (or even part of) such a grouping Smile

Personally, I think the yellow t-shirts' stunt by the LibDems was just that - a stunt. I don't think it was in the same category as Faragit's crass stunt, but I don't think it was necessary and devalued the professionalism of all the pro-Remain MEPs that have been elected. The LibDems aren't unique amongst the UK MEPs for being anti-Brexit Hmm

derxa · 02/07/2019 16:55

I don't like the Brexit party or their actions but why does the EU parliament have an anthem?

{Discussions are ongoing on the details of an agreement, which could make it easier for farmers from countries like Brazil and Argentina to sell their beef here.}

The negotiations aren't over yet. There are many categories of 'beef' and farmers are renowned for complaining, sometimes justifiably, sometimes not.

1tisILeClerc · 02/07/2019 17:05

{ I can only conclude that they are now actively trying to repeat history.}
Maybe we could skip the actual war years and killing and move swiftly on to the Nuremburg trials bit?

DGRossetti · 02/07/2019 17:07

I don't like the Brexit party or their actions but why does the EU parliament have an anthem?

Why not ? Some sports teams have an associated ditty ....

prettybird · 02/07/2019 17:18

Why does the UK have an anthem? It's not an actually country but a nation state Wink

The individual countries and principality of the UK now have their accepted individual anthems Smile. (Apologies for my ignorance as I'm not sure about NI, but there again, it's a province, not a country Wink)

And as DGR points out, even sports teams have "their" anthems.

I think "Ode to Joy" as an anthem that celebrates the founding principles of the EU (and its precursors) is a good choice.

DGRossetti · 02/07/2019 17:23

Why does the UK have an anthem?

er, cough it doesn't GSTQ is merely played by tradition. There is no official definition of any piece of music as a "National Anthem".

Which refreshingly means it's incredibly easy to dump, and I hope Charles does so as the very first thing when Her Madge departs for the Great Gig in the Sky. With "Jerusalem" as my vote (change "England" to "Britain" ?)

derxa · 02/07/2019 17:30

Well I would stand up for God Save The Queen or Flower of Scotland but not the symbol of a super state. I had no idea that the EU had purloined Ode To Joy. I am a Remainer but crap like this makes understand the Brexit mentality.

tobee · 02/07/2019 17:32

Seriously?

derxa · 02/07/2019 17:35

With "Jerusalem" as my vote (change "England" to "Britain" ?
Hilarious Grin

derxa · 02/07/2019 17:36

Seriously? Yes seriously.

tobee · 02/07/2019 17:38

For a start it was adopted by the then European Community in 1985. Then by the EU in 1993.

bellinisurge · 02/07/2019 17:39

Doesn't The Olympics have an anthem. Is that a problem too?

tobee · 02/07/2019 17:40

Not sure I can see why it's use is "crap like this". Can see other things to be bothered about in the EU way before the anthem.

tobee · 02/07/2019 17:40

Not forgetting the Eurovision Fanfare bellini

DGRossetti · 02/07/2019 17:42

Not quite sure who's talking to who here ?

I mention Jerusalem as (a) my favourite hymn at school, (b) a much misunderstood poem by one of Britains better poets and (c) it's one of Prince Charles favourites too. He even did a BBC documentary on the life of Parry - suggesting the nation lost a national treasure presenter when he decided to be Prince of Wales.

tobee · 02/07/2019 17:43

My seriously was to derxa
