He isn't interested in the best interests of the country, he's only interested in the best interests of Boris Johnson. As evidenced for example by his not deciding which side to support until the last minute when he thought about what would advance his personal situation better. Try that, Red.

I am amazed Stewart made it this far, TBH. He is built for more sane times and right now, everyone else is riding the Brexit unicorn.

I am beginning to think that most MPs know what Mr Johnson is like and they are deliberately electing him in order for him to publically fail.

placemats · 19/06/2019 18:41

Johnson is a narcissist. That is why he is nasty.

His only thoughts are his knob and money.

QuentinWinters · 19/06/2019 18:41

I think we are fucked

Ellie56 · 19/06/2019 18:41

So a step closer to Boris the Twat as our Prime Minister...Hmm

I despair, I really do.

placemats · 19/06/2019 18:41

Not the answer to give to a four year old, granted. Smile

The fact Stewart lasted so long should give us hope that not all people in politics are extremist headbangers. Eventually, centrism will prevail. Pity we have to go through shit first.

1tisILeClerc · 19/06/2019 18:47

6: Delusional liar.

1tisILeClerc · 19/06/2019 18:48

Rory was just putting his towel on the deckchair for later.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/06/2019 18:51

bugger. The lone voice of sanity has departed.

howabout · 19/06/2019 18:54

Complete opposite I would say. Tactical voting to keep him in last night to stop Hunt / Gove tacking further towards WA. Gave enough airing for him to fully expose how ridiculous sticking doggedly to the WA is as a position.

No surprise he went backwards. Looks like there was indeed lending to Saj given how close to the line he is. He seems pretty much signed up as Boris' CoE and gives Boris cover for the next round.

Fascinating to see so much Gove / Hunt (albeit limited) given they both appear to be going with business as usual souped up by corporate bungs on VAT / corporate tax for the economy whereas Boris / Saj are making noises about fiscal loosening, infrastructure investment, rebalancing from capital to income.

Very disappointing that these differences are not being analysed since they are at the heart of policy and there is very little real difference on Brexit / climate change / liberal social policy between any of them (despite the various dog whistles)

howabout · 19/06/2019 18:56

sorry should read Gove / Hunt appreciation (too many caveats Blush)

borntobequiet · 19/06/2019 18:58

That - finally - was the death knell for the Conservative party. (Assuming BJ wins.)

howabout · 19/06/2019 18:59

Number 6 is key 1tis

Boris obfuscates and flipflops frequently but at least owns his offensiveness.

Number 2 is the Singapore on Thames model, which I object even more strongly to than not Brexiting.

1tisILeClerc · 19/06/2019 18:59

{ Gave enough airing for him to fully expose how ridiculous sticking doggedly to the WA is as a position.}

I presume you are clever enough to understand that if the UK is leaving the EU then the WA or an equivalent WA that will be practically a photocopy will be signed by the UK BEFORE the EU participates in any trade dealings. The EU holds all the cards. The EU can effectively hold up trade dealings with the USA and elsewhere or at least make them near impossible to ratify.

howabout · 19/06/2019 19:02

Per Stats for Lefties:
"Coming soon: all the centrist hot takes about how Rory Stewart losing 10 votes and being eliminated means he actually won"

They sure have you lot pegged Grin

prettybird · 19/06/2019 19:09

Don't think that that's what anyone here has been suggesting Confused

....except that I'm sure it's not the last we'll see of Rory (and BTW: I wasn't as enamoured of him as some Hmm). He'll be the not-so-dark horse in the next Conservative Leader campaign (Note: I'm not saying PM Wink)

phpolly · 19/06/2019 19:11

.

howabout · 19/06/2019 19:14

Must have missed the underlying sarcasm then pretty Wink

I also disagree he is a man for the future but maybe the country and Tory Party really are that batshit. Hmm

OublietteBravo · 19/06/2019 19:27

Out of all the remaining candidates, I think Boris is the most likely to no deal. Of course, he’s also the most likely to revoke. And therein lies the problem. He’s a pathological liar and incredibly difficult to predict. Completely unsuitable for PM.

(As an aside: he might actually make Theresa May’s time as PM look ‘strong and stable.’)

LouiseCollins28 · 19/06/2019 19:28

Well I’ve got to say pretty that was neatly done Grin
Think you might be on to something with Rory as a possible future lesder

jasjas1973 · 19/06/2019 19:37

Doesn't give me hope, out of 300+ MPs he attracted barely 10%.

I also think we are in for many years of turmoil and the centre is only what the parties make it, we could easily see a Con/BXP coalition at the next GE and people like Stewart (and lets remember he is now a brexitier) will soon change their views to suit the new politics.
