Yep, sos after a night that fascists were fought off in the ballot box,
Let's hear it for the WW2 veterans 🏅
So very few of them left now - my late dad would have been 101

I hope the very few still left alive are all being cared for very well

ListsWonderfulLists · 07/06/2019 07:41

I don't post much but just coming on to say "Phew!" for Peterborough. I work there and think it's a great city. Many of my older students were gutted after the Brexit vote - they were speaking about it in class and they were so angry at the older generation taking their chances away as they saw it. They're old enough to vote now :D Also, although the Fiona Onansanya got sent to jail, most people I know regard the previous Conservative MP, Stewart Jackson, as far worse. Met him a few times and he is a complete wanker!

BigChocFrenzy · 07/06/2019 07:46

Labour won by 2%, so even that 1.2% from UKIP could have made things even tighter

If the UKIP corpse continues to stand, then their 1-2 % will continue to help a little

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 07/06/2019 07:52

Labour won by 2%

He’s on tv now blethering away about what a small margin they won by

Reminds me of something

ContinuityError · 07/06/2019 07:56

Guardian reporting:

Brexit party insiders said Labour’s reliance upon a mainly Pakistani vote in inner-city wards had been the difference between the parties. “Some of these houses had 14 people in them registered to vote. It would be interesting to see what proportion voted Labour,” said one.

Nice bit of BXP showing its true colours there.

Peregrina · 07/06/2019 07:58

Isn't 2% in the realm of 'overwhelming', or am I misremembering?

Perhaps the Tories should have a rethink about their lurch towards the extreme right?

megletthesecond · 07/06/2019 07:58

Another phew for Peterborough.

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2019 08:01

I think people from Peterborough understood that, if/when Brexit happens and they then have a BXP MP, there is no point in him after Oct 31st. They're not stupid.

And, Stuart Jackson - eugh.

ContinuityError · 07/06/2019 08:03

Ross Kempsell @rosskempsell

Brexit Party brought Farage to the Peterborough count, where he hid in the candidates room, in shot of lens through the door, was briefly mobbed outside the gents by reporters, and then drove away early before declaration. Really bad handling

Hahahaha ...

woman19 · 07/06/2019 08:03

@davidallengreen
Dear gods, Farage talking about a "contract" with voters.

Weeping.

Good job from all of Peterborough Labour party andPakistani Peterborough then. Shukriya Smile

SistemaAddict · 07/06/2019 08:06

Thank goodness for that! I couldn't have faced garages smug frog face if they have won.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 07/06/2019 08:06

Why are the BBC interviewing the leader of the loosing party? Could they not find anyone from Labour to interview? It’s almost as if the media are obsessed with the far right Hmm

Ellie56 · 07/06/2019 08:07

So the Turquoise Twats got stuffed? Good. Up yours Nigel.

Reminder: on 9th May BXP filed a Notice of a Person of Significant Control - naming one Nigel Paul Farage.

A person of significant control is someone that holds more than 25% of shares or voting rights in a company, has the right to appoint or remove the majority of the board of directors or otherwise exercises significant influence or control.

Farage is the BXP

Zipee · 07/06/2019 08:12

sorry, can't type a decent message for laughing.

Why are the leave voters so enamoured with this loser?

woman19 · 07/06/2019 08:13

The ballot box is mightier than actual and threatened violence with rifles.

This victory over them is on our jahrzeit of Jo Cox's assassination.

3 years.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 07/06/2019 08:14

Thats it peragrina

An overwhelming win for labour then

He was asked if he had a manifesto....thats when he started with his contract talk

I havent a problem with the idea of a contact...but the question was do you have one, the answer is no

YeOldeTrout · 07/06/2019 08:17

Peterborough is surprising given the ex-MP (Labour) left in such disgrace. Current voice on radio noting that Labour increased its majority over 2017 result.

Farage intrigued me in saying that elections are "won on data". So continued strategy on his side is trying to leverage disaffected voters by targetting them using social media profile. Just coz it worked b4... may not again.

jasjas1973 · 07/06/2019 08:27

As much as this is a welcome defeat for Farage, it will also cement Corbyn's belief in his Brexit position.

Makes certain the Tories vote for a no deal brexitier leader, assuming it does go to the party membership?

Good to see the LDs quadruple their vote share.

RedToothBrush · 07/06/2019 08:36

So is it possible that the Brexit Party have a Nigel Farage problem?

Whilst people might vote Brexit Party for a parliament they don't like nor see the point of, they still believe in the importance of Westminster. And whilst they believe in Brexit, enough don't like Farage nor want him to be in Westminster.

When it comes to the EU he's their man. But when it comes to 'proper elections' and 'proper power', its no thanks?

It's a potential Paradox I find both intriguing and ironic.

A circle that can't be squared? Just like a deal with the EU without a NI border. Or a deal with the US that protects food and the NHS.

Reality. It's a right pain in the arse.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 07/06/2019 08:38

On that score, Boris Johnson might well be the exact opposite. Able to pick up personality votes that Farage can't?

OP posts:
prettybird · 07/06/2019 08:42

National Audit Office says that preparing for Brexit has cost the Government £95 million so far Hmm- rather than the £65 million that had been put aside.

Costs are mostly external consultants.

Have to say that I'm surprised at how low that figure is Shock.

I assume that it doesn't include indirect opportunity costs of Civil Servants being re-assigned or not having to work on their usual responsibilities (opportunity cost), nor the negative impact on GDP and Inward Investment Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/06/2019 08:42

In the mean time

Ross North (Herefordshire) result:

LDEM: 75.1% (+28.0)
CON: 18.7% (-34.1)
LAB: 6.2% (+6.2)

Liberal Democrat GAIN from Conservative. 75% !!!!

Songsofexperience · 07/06/2019 08:42

On the contrary, jas. Perhaps Corbyn won't change his mind (he never would anyway) but to the rest of Labour this result combined with the EP wipeout is a clear message that they do have a chance nationally if they side with remain. EP was about brexit and they got a 👎but it doesn't mean people want the BXP or the Tories in power. This is the public saying we don't give a F about brexit, let's get our house in order!
