I'm not afraid to admit I'm terrified

I really am. It feels like we're hurtling towards no deal Brexit with a coward and idiot at the helm who couldnt organise a booze up in a brewery.
What are we heading for? Huge economic crash? War?

I am so scared about brexit. It feels like end of days and I agree with OP - war could be next. I feel like I'm braced for the next stage and it could go all mad Max. I know that sounds extreme but I'm scared.
I'm in Scotland and have the glimpse of gaining indy.... But at the cost of the UK? I feel Scotland (top heavy population) thrives and needs people to move here. There's loads of room! ;) But most of all we need people to keep everything together.... It's scary how many of my colleagues don't know what's going to happen next... And that's effecting their career choices (healthcare)
I wish we could press stop before it all started... It's awful. Night mare situation ran by these bunch of...... Well. See photo and you know what I mean. No coincidence. www.google.com/search?q=eton+photo+boris+cameron&oq=eton+photo+&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l3.8509j0j7&client=ms-android-huawei&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#imgrc=k7P6ByIwxjGMtM:

Orangeballoon that's totally not how I feel! We need everyone we can in Scotland!

Spongeface · 27/05/2019 04:04

*affecting - sorry, brain hurts

bellinisurge · 27/05/2019 05:21

It's even stevens here in NW England. 3 on one side 2+ 1 = 3 for Remain. With the other 2 for Labour. Not out yet.

StealthPolarBear · 27/05/2019 06:02

War mongering, do you even know what that means? How bloody dare you. Explain exactly how I am war mongering.

OP posts:
DockerDre · 27/05/2019 06:37

Good Lord. What an hysterical thread.

howwudufeel · 27/05/2019 06:40

These are challenging and unsettling times but I think that talk of war is ridiculous. Who are the enemy?

StealthPolarBear · 27/05/2019 06:46

As has been explained many times war often follows a period of political and economic uncertainty.

OP posts:
MoominMantra · 27/05/2019 06:49

It's not ridiculous. When everything goes wrong and there are food and medication& petrol shortages people will likely turn on each other. There could be civil war and we could end up with some sort of martial law.

StealthPolarBear · 27/05/2019 06:52

Apparently worrying about it is war mongering. Yet I'm the ridiculous one. Catch on.

VashtaNerada · 27/05/2019 07:02

I’m frightened too. I’ve been worried about the direction our country is heading in for a while now and I was right to worry. The Far Right is on the rise, we’re likely to leave Europe in the worst way possible, people in power don’t respect the importance of the NHS & the welfare state, and people are poorer than they have been in a long time. My own family is facing financial difficulties that would have been unthinkable a generation ago.
I don’t know what the future holds OP, but I don’t blame you for worrying about it.

Underthegreenwood · 27/05/2019 07:10

Some ridiculous comments here, so unkind to mock you stealth, when you are speaking sense and trying to engage others. I also think there is a lot to be concerned about, close to home and for my lifetime I see brexit and rise of far right, poses a real threat to the kind of society and country I want to live in. But all dwarfed by climate change and it's that which I am preoccupied with, so much ignorance and denial about it which is truly terrifying.

For a bit of comfort, can't think of better word, I've just read Sapiens which gives a fascinating large scale look at history of humankind and which interestingly suggests war is generally unlikely now. It looks at number of deaths from conflict around the world and demonstrates that this had gradually been decreasing. NATO and nuclear capability means full scale war is no longer very likely. Its really worth a read to enable you to step back from the immediate place you are in. I also have said about fear to older generations and they remind me that most generations faced what seemed to be insurmountable challenges but got through it.

So I'm hopeful about our politics etc, but climate change is another thing altogether!

StealthPolarBear · 27/05/2019 07:13

Thank you. Although I'm not sure you're right that I'm trying to engage. I am scared and shocked and venting.
I agree climate change is so huge it dwarfs everything else. It isn't as immediate and doesn't seem as 'in our control' iyswim. A couple of decent Conservative MPs could actually put an end to this right now if they put their minds to it. Climate change, we need strong leadership and change directed from the top.

lazymare · 27/05/2019 07:16

I don't know anyone who voted for brexit here in Glasgow

It will be the Rangers God Save the Queen lot.

Underthegreenwood · 27/05/2019 07:18

It doesn't feel in our control but that's probably why it's been ignored, like it's too much to take on. Greta thunberg made a compelling point, eu finds time for emergency brexit talks but not climate, why? I saw a climate protest in my city recently and it was heartening to see children getting out having their say. I'm ashamed somehow that as a child I had no idea really and have only recently made changes in my life. We can all make a difference. We should focus on this as it's the most important thing by miles and miles. Sorry, it's just all I can think about at the moment, I have major brexit fatigue and disillusioned by it all

Quellium · 27/05/2019 07:21

It's not ridiculous at all to think we are on a very dark path. It's just unthinkable to most people because most of us have never known real crisis, so we don't think it could ever happen. I am so worried about what is coming.

EducatingArti · 27/05/2019 07:25

I'm not terrified ( yet) but really concerned and worried about what is already happening. Fractured communities, rise in racism, education and NHS crumbling ( and increasingly being run for profit), the general infrastructure ( roads etc) just getting worse, increase in homelessness, growing need for food banks etc. I'm just praying for rescue and mercy!

80sMum · 27/05/2019 07:33

According to Jacob Rees Mogg, my grandchildren will be grandparents by the time we start to reap the benefits of Brexit and my great-great grandchildren will be the first generation to grow up in the new post-Brexit utopia. I'm planning an extra special celebration for my 111th birthday.

StealthPolarBear · 27/05/2019 08:08

Can I come? I'll be a wee bairn of 90, living my best life.
My birthday, Halloween, is a scary day. This year, the year I turn 40 will be extra terrifying and nothing to do with ghouls and ghosts. The horrors and evils are all running Brexit.

Tonight we're going to party like it's 2069

OP posts:
MindyStClaire · 27/05/2019 08:41

Utterly horrified by this thread.

Scoffing at the idea of war.

220 posts in and not a single mention of Northern Ireland.

And still don’t understand who we are going to war with. Unless you mean a Civil War. Which would be interesting.

This is horrific. The UK is barely 20 years past its last civil war and doing little to prevent it starting again.

But of course, war in Belfast or Derry doesn't count if it's not London or Liverpool.

I'm incandescent.

StealthPolarBear · 27/05/2019 08:44

Yes very good points. Boris is probably currently wiping his bum with the good Friday agreement.

OP posts:
1tisILeClerc · 27/05/2019 08:49

The possibility of 'war' in the UK is significantly greater than zero, but it would be a civil war, not for or against other countries.
It will depend on how the government handles the increasing split of UK citizens and how bad the financial crash will be.
The UK has not recovered from the global banking crisis in 2008 where afterwards banks moved a lot of money to prevent total collapse.
A crash due to Brexit will largely affect UK alone and it may well be forced to borrow heavily from the world banks.
The biggest issue is that there are no responsible grown ups in power in the UK and no sign of any materialising soon.
Con and Lab are a washout. Libdem/greens, maybe but the Brexit party have absolutely fuck all clue apart from shouting meaningless slogans. They have no plan.

indyref2 · 27/05/2019 08:52

@MindyStClaire well said.

StealthPolarBear · 27/05/2019 08:52

Shouting meaningless slogans... No plan
Just like Boris in 2016
