The Brexit Party are doing really well in the polls. I just hope they do as well in the election.
I think their slogan should be "Tell them again".
I would like to see a clean sweep of Brexiteers but I know that is not going to happen.
I have sent off my postal vote.

1tis rightly or wrongly, these elections are going to be used to gauge public opinion on Brexit.

If Farage does well Leavers will insist it’s confirmation of the will of the people.

Ivegotthree · 26/05/2019 17:48

Looking forward to the results tonight.

Can't wait to be free from Brussels' clutches.

Bearbehind · 26/05/2019 17:49

And on cue - a comment which proves my point!

NoYo · 26/05/2019 17:51

If Lib Dems got a majority tonight, I'm sure people would be saying that it means the country would prefer to Remain. To pretend otherwise is rather duplicitous.

#BollocksToNoBrexit.

{1tis rightly or wrongly, these elections are going to be used to gauge public opinion on Brexit.}

Thanks I am aware of that, it has been the case starting at the referendum, claiming an answer from the wrong question.

PortiaCastis · 26/05/2019 17:53

How on earth will tonight's result make anyone free from Brussels clutches, as we've just voted for MEPs to sit in a Parliament in Brussels
You couldn't make it up

NoWordForFluffy · 26/05/2019 17:53

No deal WASN'T offered. The referendum literature said we'd leave with a deal. Saying we were offered no deal to vote for at that point is simply NOT true.

Lonelycrab · 26/05/2019 17:55

Only when the NHS is broken up, the welfare system grinds to a halt, large scale business failures have happened and poverty soars will the penny drop.

Then they’ll be saying “this wasn’t what you promised us...”

Littlespaces · 26/05/2019 18:00

No deal WASN'T offered. The referendum literature said we'd leave with a deal. Saying we were offered no deal to vote for at that point is simply NOT true.

Exactly. Leaving on 'No Deal' would be highly undemocratic as the referendum didn't specify it.

1tisILeClerc · 26/05/2019 18:06

(Leaving on 'No Deal' would be highly undemocratic as the referendum didn't specify it.}
Are you meaning democratic like voting for MEPs to represent the UK in Brussels, that kind of democracy?
Or do you mean the sort where people can't change their mind if things turn out to be a fucking stupid idea that will destroy the UK?

Mistigri · 26/05/2019 18:07

I'm looking forward the penny making a large hole in the floor, as it will do over the summer once Tory leadership candidates twig that their options are to work towards a consensus Brexit of some sort, or lose a no-confidence vote.

Bearbehind · 26/05/2019 18:07

1tis did you get out of the wrong side of the bed today? 🤔

Bearbehind · 26/05/2019 18:11

misti I think it’s clear from all these threads that only living through no deal is going to make the penny drop. Sadly we’ll all be screwed by then.

Anything else and Leavers will be bleating forever about the lack of democracy

Peregrina · 26/05/2019 18:18

If Lib Dems got a majority tonight, I'm sure people would be saying that it means the country would prefer to Remain. To pretend otherwise is rather duplicitous.

Nope, the Tories and Labour were thrashed in the Local elections, mostly in shire counties which were heavily Leave voting areas. The Lib Dems and Greens both did well. The results were interpreted as people wanting to get on with Brexit! I.e.all a bit heads I win, tails you lose.

Littlespaces · 26/05/2019 18:19

I'm saying nobody voted for 'No Deal' because it wasn't specified.

NoWordForFluffy · 26/05/2019 18:21

And if it's supposedly as undemocratic to revoke as that isn't what people voted for, then it's just as undemocratic to go for no deal, as this also wasn't voted for (to turn no dealers' "but it's undemocratic" bleats against them).

1tisILeClerc · 26/05/2019 18:24

{1tis did you get out of the wrong side of the bed today?}
No, why?

Getting totally hacked off by the tossers who think that leaving the EU is going to be 'all fine' even though they have no idea how to make it happen.

Bearbehind · 26/05/2019 18:25

Yet youre arguing with those of us who want to stay 😂

PortiaCastis · 26/05/2019 18:29

Parliament have voted against no deal and Parliament are sovreign

Lonelycrab · 26/05/2019 18:33

Sshhhh. Parliament being sovereign is of utmost importance.

But they’re enemies of the people too apparently 😂

1tisILeClerc · 26/05/2019 18:36

Bearbehind
I think you misunderstood what I was meaning in the quote. A couple of glasses of wine might have influenced the quote.
Leaving is a very silly idea and after 3 years the best reasons that 'leavers' can come up with for leaving is that it might not be democratic, while conveniently overlooking various other undemocratic activities.

Bearbehind · 26/05/2019 18:43

1tis I’m totally on your side but I think that quote was from a Remainer saying that Leavers didn’t vote for no deal so doing that would be undemocratic.

Wine may end up being the answer though! Wine

PortiaCastis · 26/05/2019 18:49

I get the impression that there are those who thought their vote on Thurday was for a purely UK election or referendum judging from comments I've read, do they not understand that it was an EU Parliamentary election and will not help get us out whatever nige says

bellinisurge · 26/05/2019 18:54

Currently on my hols in Eurofurrinland. Astonishing lack of being dictated to in their laws and practices. I'm quite shocked. 😂😂😂

Peregrina · 26/05/2019 18:56

For those thinking it was a UK only election, they are going to be a tad disappointed when Farage doesn't take his seat in the HoC. He might, another time, and then we will be able to see what a lazy toad he is.
