Leavers rejoice

The Brexit Party are doing really well in the polls. I just hope they do as well in the election.
I think their slogan should be "Tell them again".
I would like to see a clean sweep of Brexiteers but I know that is not going to happen.
I have sent off my postal vote.

No, there are 4 other established Remain parties you know, which have all been around for a good few years. If any one of those 4 could get 33% in a particular area I would be delighted.

Personally though I am glad that Heidi Allen and Sarah Wollaston jumped ship from the current Tory party, although I think they would be better as proper independents. Similarly I am glad to see Richard Ashworth standing again as an MEP but I doubt whether he will get a seat, but I would be happy if he did.

It seems that Leave voters can't be arsed to come up with a decent reason to leave but maybe they would like to explain to up to 25,000 workers in and supporting the Scunthorpe steelworks why they think that leaving is so good.
Basically 'we' want sovereignty/democracy/unicorns, but you will loose your jobs.
Steelmaking, an activity that the UK had a good reputation for, let down by managerial and governmental failure to invest to keep their industry at the top of the game.
Sold off to foreign buyers with insufficient controls to keep the industry running.
This and many other large scale industry will need massive governmental finance to even attempt to make it competitive, with the killer being the extra tariffs that will be coming in due to Brexit.
I hope you 'leavers' are proud of your actions.

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 06:38

"Just read the westministers thread.
Funnily enough there are a lot of remainers on there very worried about how well the Brexit party are doing in the polls.
But on this thread you are all saying that it doesn't matter."

I'm not saying it doesn't matter. However, I do feel when posting to you that I am speaking to a small child who's made a biscuit "that's very nice, love, you've been very clever. It's really great" [takes a bite of biscuit with 3 inch thick of icing on it]" Mmm, that's just great. Granny will be really impressed".
[vomit noises out of earshot].

{I hope you 'leavers' are proud of your actions.}

I presume people realise that the redundancy and universal credit payments that all these workers will need to be paid will be coming out of everyone else's Universal Credit.

every thread I'm on i ask leavers, politely, to tell us some benefits of leaving. they dont like discussing them/they cant discuss them - theyre far more confident discussing how horrid remainers are.

if i were supporting a political movement and i couldn't even begin to explain the reasons why i would be very concerned....

I think they’re all on Twitter. Leavers are very prolific over there. And Facebook groups.
I don’t think there are many leavers on Mumsnet to be honest.

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 07:23

Yes, @tomtom1999xx . On my local community FB group too. If you just say "Leave means leave" you get lots of thumbs up. Or "Tommy all the way ".

1tisILeClerc · 21/05/2019 07:34

{On my local community FB group too. If you just say "Leave means leave" you get lots of thumbs up. Or "Tommy all the way ".}

So plenty of informed discussion and strategies then?

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 07:38

My dh came off it. It is so depressing.

Helmetbymidnight · 21/05/2019 07:43

im on fb and twitter- ive not seen a discussion of benefits- most brexiteers do seem content with 'brexit mean brexit' or 'out now' and many seem to get enraged/feelinsulted at further enquiries.

i asked a labour candidate for council what she was most looking forward to with brexit. she said leaving the eu of course. i asked what benefits she felt this would bring. she left the thread. (and won a council seat)

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 21/05/2019 07:55

I have to agree with this

time

Im not really keen on brand new parties with hastily drawn up manifestos (or none) that only knew they would be standing in a particular election mere weeks ago

Its not changes fault obviously...but if the greens or lib dems wre doing incredibly well i would be ‘relieved’ i suppose

PortiaCastis · 21/05/2019 08:02

Here's some more music while we're waiting LeClerc as recommended by my Mum

Peregrina · 21/05/2019 08:28

As Theresa May has found out, much to her cost, Brexit is Brexit is an easy slogan to say, but a much harder thing to deliver.
How many of Farage's rabble deliver anything? Farage's interest in the EU Parliament stretches to drawing a salary. The others that came to prominence are known for having a punch up. We need more than this if the country is to be governed.

1tisILeClerc · 21/05/2019 08:29

PortiaCastis
Good lyrics but not quite my musical scene.

Try this one and have a little 'twirl'.

Sadly it might be a bit ironic for this thread.

PortiaCastis · 21/05/2019 09:38

Good tune Leclerc
Unfortunately there are those who aren't seeing anything clearly

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 09:50

One of my faves @1tisILeClerc . I usually sing it when things are completely fucked up and I need to take a deep breath and work out how they can get unfucked up.
So, apt then.

jasjas1973 · 21/05/2019 10:19

maybe they would like to explain to up to 25,000 workers in and supporting the Scunthorpe steelworks why they think that leaving is so good

...but Copper is rejoicing, so all is good, its a price worth paying.

Dominic Raab wants a cut in basic rate income tax of 5%, so don't hold your breath on repairing your local roads or more investment in NHS/skills/Education.... a typical Tory offering to the electorate who will lap it up inc many MN's who voted tory in 2015 :(

Low tax & poor public services is the way ahead for the UK, well done Coop's

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/05/2019 10:26

Where the fuck are we going to find a 5% cut in income tax from? I know it’s Raab, so the barrier for common sense is low but even for him that’s daft.

Stilltalkstotrees · 21/05/2019 12:12

It’s more of the religion of cake and eat it. I am starting to accept that we deserve everything we get.

PortiaCastis · 21/05/2019 12:18

Jamie Oliver's restaurant chain has called in the administrators now not sure why but more sad news for workers today

Helmetbymidnight · 21/05/2019 12:19

Dominic Raab wants a cut in basic rate income tax of 5%,

In a couple of years, he'll be like, 'oh, I hadn't quite appreciated the full extent of our reliance on income tax revenue ...'

PortiaCastis · 21/05/2019 12:22

Raab isn't living in the real world

1tisILeClerc · 21/05/2019 12:38

{Raab isn't living in the real world}

Most of the cabinet and HoC aren't either.

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 12:42

Vote for me, I want a free trampoline for all!

Peregrina · 21/05/2019 14:49

Is it just trampolines being given away or can we ask for a free holiday to somewhere nice and sunny?
