The Brexit Party are doing really well in the polls. I just hope they do as well in the election.
I think their slogan should be "Tell them again".
I would like to see a clean sweep of Brexiteers but I know that is not going to happen.
I have sent off my postal vote.

{But you do agree to your taxes been spent on ferry companies with no boats.}
Personally I can't think of anything more sensible (not).

Peregrina · 17/05/2019 12:43

The Leavers on these threads probably don't agree with money spent for non - existent ferries, because that is money spent by Tories. They are here to support Farage. I can't imagine that he would spend money wisely if he ever had real power.

So Nigel Farage gets funding from a wealthy mate. What about the LibDems?
BBC story about their main donor:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37823559
A billionaire arms dealer.
"The Choudrie family has given more than£1.6m to the Liberal Democrats. An investigation by BBC Panorama and The Guardian suggests he is also one of the world's biggest arms dealers. Leaked documents from the Choudhries' Swiss bank show that the family's companies were paid almost 100m euros by Russian arms firms in one 12-month period alone. The leaked documents say one of the Russian arms firms paying the Choudhries "makes cruise missiles"."

Does it bother you that the Lib dems get money from arms dealers? Or is it only Nigel Farage's donors who upset you?

@IanDunt
Brexit party candidates' rhetoric nearly always follows the same pattern. First, they pretend any criticism of them as individuals is a criticism of their voters. Then they pretend any critical view of Brexit, even by supporters of a deal, is a betrayal of Leave voters

They behave as if constantly offended by criticism, because it allows them to harness a betrayal narrative and masks the fact they have literally nothing else to say

Cowardice, mock-offence and hypocrisy. Nothing more. It's all they have to offer

What's so desperate: when only way to claw back few votes is to lie about your opponents. Fantasy politics, practiced by those who think clever smears will cut against whip-smart voters who can see through it. Fact you think voters daft enough to fall for this tells us everything …

Take a moment to realise just how spineless this is. May and Corbyn are both terrible leaders. But they do not respond to criticism of themselves by pretending it is an insult to their voters.

You need to be careful of where you are going with this sort of questioning as a significant part of the UK 'economy' is propped up by legal arms dealing. The whole setup is pretty murky partly for 'security' reasons.
While it would be lovely to make cuddly teddy bears for the children of the world using entirely environmentally and ethical products the world is not like that.
While I don't particularly condone the Chowdrie's donation, it is to a relatively 'open' and accountable political party and is not shrouded in secrecy and with aims that are against the citizens of the UK.
The vast majority of people in the UK have a pretty safe and secure life experience and the 'unsavoury' aspects are relatively few, unlike many other parts of the world.
In the UK we get 'traumatised' by someone reacting to an allergy, but in many parts of the world if you have a strong allergic reaction you simply die, there is no option.

bellinisurge · 17/05/2019 17:55

You're confusing me with a Lib Dem supporter. I'm voting Lib Dem because they are the nearest match to my views in the unique circumstances of this election. I have no idea what Labour policy is and despise Corbyn. I think anything in England other than a vote for Lib Dem or Green could be construed as support for No Deal. Which I will never support. I was prepared to accept WA as it was a version of Leave that worked with GFA (the only type of Leave I would accept).
No party is a WA party, Lib Dem's have the best chance in NW England of making an impact, so I will hold my nose and vote Lib Dem.
Thems my reasons. I don't like the Lib Dems but I can vote for no one else and I must vote. I live in a particularly pro Leave area.

It bothers me that the tories sanction arms sales to the saudis who are complicit in the Yemini crisis

jasjas1973 · 17/05/2019 19:05

@Fishfud

Farage was receiving personal spending, which under EU rules as an MEP he should have been declaring, as at least part of it was being used for political campaigning ie meeting Trump.

He also very recently, denied it point blank.

He is a two faced twunt, making fools of his supporters, one day he'll be jailed.

LibDems, morally, shouldn't have been taking money from any Arms dealers.....however, its whataboutery!

bobiana · 17/05/2019 19:14

Sorry Fishfud, but it looks like your straw man was a mere fart in the wind...

Farage is being shown up for the lying manipulator that he is, anyone with even a modicum of sense can see that.

Whether or not he’s the only shark in the tank is a fucking irrelevance. He’s still got raw flesh hanging from his teeth.

user1497997754 · 17/05/2019 19:15

Farage is a creepy, spineless excuse of a human being anyone who votes for him needs a lobotomy asap

user1497997754 · 17/05/2019 19:18

My vote goes to Jose Moriniho I understand he is looking for a job at the moment

user1497997754 · 17/05/2019 19:19

Or Jeremy Kyle he is looking for a job

Yaralie · 17/05/2019 19:19

I think Farage will do well in the polls. Sadly there are a lot of ill-informed guillible people in this country. He can lie and lie again and be exposed as a liar and they will still vote for him.

Only today, when asked by Channel 4, he denied that Arron Banks had financed him to the tune of £450k since 2016, yet shortly after Arron Banks said it was true. Will this make any difference to his supporters? What do you think?

1tisILeClerc · 17/05/2019 19:47

Isn't Farage supposed to be a 'person of interest' in the States and due to be questioned?

frumpety · 17/05/2019 20:02

I wonder if Trump will meet with Farage or will he prefer Boris, when he next pops over for a visit ? Boris at least has a chance at the top job which of course Farage doesn't if he is voted in as a MEP. Be interesting to see if it is one or the other or neither.

Peregrina · 17/05/2019 22:16

My first thought was that this Chowdrie must be a refugee from the Tory party, because they are happy with arms sales to dodgy regimes, and indeed would need to look towards increasing exports to them if we leave the EU.

Then I thought that this is a thread rejoicing about the Brexit party and isn't it wonderful how well it's doing. Farage reckons only to have individual supporters coughing up £25 each. Pull the other one chum.

Stilltalkstotrees · 18/05/2019 08:10

OP, you do know that Nigel Farage advocates abolishing the NHS and replacing it with an insurance based health system? And that he’s bankrolled by... a man who owns insurance companies Hmm

Coppersulphate · 19/05/2019 16:14

Stilltalks,
I know exactly what Nigel Farage says about the NHS.

I have voted for him because I want to leave the EU. Nothing else.

AndI am delighted to say that the Brexit Party are now on 35% according to yougov.

{I have voted for him because I want to leave the EU. Nothing else.}

It must be nice to have nothing else in your head.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 19/05/2019 16:36

I have voted for him because I want to leave the EU. Nothing else.

Absolutely impossible to counter mindless nonsense like this. The empty symbolism of Brexit, epitomised by a cultist, belief-over-facts mindset will lead to declining living standards for many people.

PortiaCastis · 19/05/2019 16:50

Ok OP you want to leave the EU and will vote for Farage and then what will his wonderful party do as they've no clout in the EU and no clout out of it. Even if they gain every UK seat they'll be hugely outnumbered in the EU Parliament as there are 705 seats and why fight for a seat at a Parliament you do not believe in, it does not make any sense whatsoever.
Farage cannot take you out of the EU as he's not an MP and therefore has no say in Westminster he's tried 7 times to be one but has failed, so tell us what magic he can perform for his rantings to be effective anywhere as he's not a government minister nor an MP and may possibly be an MEP again but as stated will not have a lot of clout even if he does bother to show up for his salary.

Peregrina · 19/05/2019 17:34

I have voted for him because I want to leave the EU. Nothing else.

Fine and if he were to get in and smash the NHS, forcing you to take out expensive insurance, or not even get insurance, then when you couldn't afford medical treatment just repeat the mantra, this is what I voted for, this is what I voted for.

Would it make your illness better? If it was a common cold, yes, because they go away of their own accord, if you need a hip replacement then welcome to becoming crippled and in pain, unless you have a good few thousand to spare for private treatment.

BackInTime · 19/05/2019 17:48

I have voted for him because I want to leave the EU. Nothing else.

OP in exercising your democratic right to vote in the EU elections, do you think it would be wise to consider other issues or at least the kind of people that you are voting for and what their beliefs are? Is there anything else that is important to you other than Brexit?
