Leavers rejoice

The Brexit Party are doing really well in the polls. I just hope they do as well in the election.
I think their slogan should be "Tell them again".
I would like to see a clean sweep of Brexiteers but I know that is not going to happen.
I have sent off my postal vote.

@ChavvyOldBrexiteer , I have no intention of telling you how wonderful the EU is. I see our membership as the least worst situation we could be in. Why should I waste my time trying to convince you about the EU.
What I have consistently been trying to do on this thread and other threads is to get Leavers to grow up and support the WA so we can all move on from this dreadful mess.
But if you are do blinkered that you assume everyone who hates No Deal is lobbying for Revoke then you aren't really interested in Brexit. Just the fun and games of the aggro.

ChavvyOldBrexiteer · 16/05/2019 20:07

Don't waste your time trying to convince me, luv. Your time would be far better employed lobbying the majority of leavers and Remainers in Parliament and indeed the whole country that see the WA as a far worse option than even staying in the EU.

bellinisurge · 16/05/2019 20:09

Then if you have a better idea that is GFA compliant, I'm all ears.
Luv.

1tisILeClerc · 16/05/2019 20:15

{Don't waste your time trying to convince me,}
I don't care if you want to believe that leaving is wonderful but kindly stop repeating slogans that have already been established as lies.
One of the biggest lies is that the WA can be ignored or not signed off.
Theresa knows this is true but is struggling to persuade most others.
In this one 'fact' in particular, she has the full backing of the EU27 and the 450 Million that they are representing.
Yes it is a lot worse than 'remaining' but if the UK is leaving, it will be signed sooner or later. Sooner would be better of course so that industry might get a chance of recovery before the next global financial crash, or the USA and Iran start firing at each other.

Peregrina · 16/05/2019 20:18

Two sources - one the Independent and if that's too 'leftie' for you, one from the Telgraph.
www.google.com/search?q=farage+talks+of+gassing+jews&rlz=1C1IRFF_enGB846GB846&oq=farage+talks+of+gassing+jews&aqs=chrome..69i57.6607j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/ukip/10322331/Nigel-Farage-was-a-racist-schoolboy.html

Notice how Farage ducks the issue - I don't know any Hitler youth songs he says, but he doesn't talk about whether he knows how to fit words to the tune of 'Bless 'em all, bless 'em all'. Then he talks about immigration - as if Judaism and immigration are one and the same.

Oh do also note how this "man of the people" went to an expensive independent school - he didn't go to a rough Sec Mod on an estate.

In my book calling out anti-semitism is a long way from being a disgusting thing to say. Maybe you didn't realise that this was his background?

Helmetbymidnight · 16/05/2019 20:27

every time you try to debate politics with intelligent and sane people you are in danger of entrenching and radicalising them to brexit.
this is what that mocking abuser james o brien has done.

Lonelycrab · 16/05/2019 20:31

the majority of leavers and Remainers in Parliament and indeed the whole country that see the WA as a far worse option than even staying in the EU.

Maybe that’s the case. And given that the reality of a no deal crash out is even worse still in terms of intelligent support, don’t you ever start to question if the whole thing is a stupid idea anyway?🤔

bellinisurge · 16/05/2019 20:41

@Lonelycrab Grin

Coppersulphate · 16/05/2019 22:00

Bornto, I don't have any interest in how much Boris is paid by the Telegraph or from any other source other than the public purse.

The pen pushers in the EU are paid from public money which I contribute to when I pay my taxes, some of which our government hand over to Brussels.

Private companies are not funded by taxes. The EU is.

{Private companies are not funded by taxes. The EU is.}

What is your point, apart from stating the 'bleeding obvious'?
The UK spends about 0.7% of GDP on the 'services' it gets from Brussels.
It spends around 30-40% on UK welfare. There are plenty of 'pen pushers' in the UK.

bellinisurge · 16/05/2019 22:08

We get it. Leave won. So how are we going to do it if we don't accept TM's WA.
What's the plan, Stan?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 16/05/2019 22:18

leave won

I used to think winning was a good thing

You know...yay i won!!!

Not yay, three years later and i still haven’t got my prize

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 16/05/2019 23:12

"every time you try to debate politics with intelligent and sane people you are in danger of entrenching and radicalising them to brexit."

Not really. If they were intelligent and sane then they wouldn't need persuading that Brexit was a crock of shit...

AuldAlliance · 17/05/2019 05:37

Private companies are not funded by taxes. The EU is.

If you're concerned about taxation and its relation to the funding of public services, it might be worth remembering which Pmt has passed legislation on tax avoidance and which one has not and will not. The connections between the implementation of that legislation and the timing of Brexit are fairly damning.

Mistigri · 17/05/2019 06:04

Private companies are not funded by taxes.

Incorrect. Private companies are very often subsidised by the tax payer.

Private companies invariably rely on public infrastructure to function and many receive indirect subsidies from the public purse for every employee who is paid below the living wage. Some receive direct funding from the government, in the form of grants or contractual payments.

Many private companies - the likes of Capita - would simply not exist without public funding from tax payer money.

Flobochin · 17/05/2019 06:13

"The Remainers in Parliament will get the message that the majority of people in this country want to leave the EU."

This is the whole point!

I cannot believe anyone who still supports the Tory's or Labour for that matter.

Mistigri · 17/05/2019 07:17

"The Remainers in Parliament will get the message that the majority of people in this country want to leave the EU."

There hasn't even any polling that supports this statement for many months. It is probably no longer true, if it ever was.

jasjas1973 · 17/05/2019 08:06

Clavinova

any trade deals Fox may be doing now is just replicating some the numerous FTA's we've with the EU right now

Any agreements carried over now can be upgraded in the future

I ve a friend who is a CEO of a sme exporting around the world (40 countries at present, 18 eu ones) he says that the WTO tariff will wipe out all his profit margin, the delays in custom checks means he will need to off-shore stock (in regard to the EU, he has already done this, costing uk 15 jobs, Holland has gained them)

Sure, deals maybe be replicated or even upgraded in future but what about in the meantime? how does he stay in business? also, why would a country give the UK a better deal than negotiated with the EU?

Leaving the EU without damaging the UK should have been a 10 year project, not a fly by the pants, back of a fag packet, get rich quick scheme for some, with policy decided by the latest opinion poll and by a population (generally speaking) who haven't a fucking clue what they are talking about.

user1497997754 · 17/05/2019 08:08

Brexit party.....Nigel Farage is a complete twat....and that is really derogatory to twats really he is the epitomy of a slime ball covered in shit.....anyone who votes for him is deluded

jasjas1973 · 17/05/2019 08:31

.....is that by abusing and mocking those you disagree with, you don't convert them to your way of thinking, you just make them more entrenched and radicalised

It no longer matters, if leaving the EU was 100% shown to be a disaster for the UK, someone would say "it wont be as bad as WW2" and all the brexitiers would nod sagely (even though Ann Widecombe wasn't even alive in 1945)
Views are now solidly entrenched, only personal experience will change minds, a friends Dad spent time in a Hospice, seeing all the EU nurses there mind her change her mind on brexit.

I think Remainers are much more likely to be able to see some reasons to leave the EU - i certainly think FOM needs to be reformed and almost certainly will be.
But we need to look at the overall benefit of EU membership, Trade, culture and very importantly, being in a bloc that can collectively stand up for Europe.

As a German minister said recently "Germany is a small country and China/USA will not listen to us alone BUT in the EU we have a strong voice"

1tisILeClerc · 17/05/2019 08:33

{ why would a country give the UK a better deal than negotiated with the EU?}

Indeed, if you get past the 'beneficial' headlines of the WTO rules you then discover a whole raft of legislation that severely restrict the implementation. Most favoured trading status being one, which is very un favourable. If you set tariffs at zero, you have to do this to all suppliers which will wipe out your home producers.

1tisILeClerc · 17/05/2019 08:36

{As a German minister said recently "Germany is a small country}
And Germany has a GDP about double that of the UK and it too is 'concerned'.

Peregrina · 17/05/2019 08:45

I can confirm that there was zero support for any Brexit-supporting parties, from a large group of random, predominantly over-50s.

The Scots have more sense than the English then.

Coppersulphate · 17/05/2019 08:50

Misti, instead time I looked the Daily Telegraph was not a private company that is subsidised by the tax payers and the whole point of the quote was that Boris is paid somewhat above the minimum wage.
At least read it before you get your facts wrong.
