The Brexit Party are doing really well in the polls. I just hope they do as well in the election.
I think their slogan should be "Tell them again".
I would like to see a clean sweep of Brexiteers but I know that is not going to happen.
I have sent off my postal vote.

@Coppersulphate , I have explained how we can Leave - via WA. If you don't want that then you want No Deal. Unless you can come up with a viable alternative to the backstop.
If you want No Deal there is no majority in the Commons or in tbe country for this course of action. So you would have to suck it up. Just as I would have to suck up Leave via WA. Which I am prepared to do in the interests of compromise.

bellinisurge · 14/05/2019 16:19

@Sycamorish , the MPs stopping Brexit are the Leave MPs who were not prepared to back WA. We would have left by now if they had. Get your facts straight.

Coppersulphate · 14/05/2019 16:22

Oh Bellini, my facts are straight.
There are a significant number of MPs, some who have formed Change UK, who wish to stop Brexit altogether.

Most people may care about the environment, but they don't necessarily take steps personally to protect it without being encouraged to do so by policies. Huge lifestyle changes, many of them uncomfortable, are needed. At individual level, humans don't usually pressure politicians to take measures that will curb their liberties, which is what is required.

I'm intrigued at the idea that UK voters are interested in protecting the environment and will therefore elect politicians who have expressed no interest in it or have dismissed climate change, and then somehow pressure them into legislating on the issue through democratic means.
How will that work?
Not voting for parties that openly include environmental protection in their policies can't easily be decoded as an expression of a desire to protect the environment.

Helmetbymidnight · 14/05/2019 16:30

why are so many scientists, academics and environmental groups and campaigners pro-remain?

you must have asked yourself this many times as a green brexiteer.

Sycamorish · 14/05/2019 16:33

Your last sentence is quite difficult to read.

My point is that as most people in the UK do care about the environment they will insist on green policies. They want clean air etc. That is how democracy works.

Helmetbymidnight · 14/05/2019 16:34

sycamore just has a feeling presumably that although several leading brexiteers have dismissed man made climate change and although green issues virtually never appear in brexiteer arguments or leaflets that very secretely they are all very green. Grin it doesnt matter that silly scientists, academics and campaigners agree brexit will be bad for the environment, michael gove has said it will be ace!

Sycamorish · 14/05/2019 16:41

How can you say that Brexit will be bad for the environment. What does that even mean? Do you ever think for yourself?

Sycamorish · 14/05/2019 16:42

The UK has its own carbon emission targets, congestion charge, public transport policies etc etc etc.

Helmetbymidnight · 14/05/2019 16:46

i care deeply about the environment so i will vote for a movement that doesn't give a shit about it (ooh except for one little speech from michael gove!) which boasts climate change deniers, and which is opposed by most anyone who actually cares about the environment-

aw it must be tough to be a green brexiteer Grin

you agree with a peoples vote though right, 'healthier democracy' etc etc

Zofrasi · 14/05/2019 16:50

@Coppersulphate
{MPs are Remain and the people want to Leave.}
Maybe because the MPs realise how much poorer the majority of their constituents will be if we leave.

Coppersulphate · 14/05/2019 16:53

Climate change has nothing to do with Brexit.
You will use any excuse you can to big up the EU and rubbish Brexit.
We are quite capable of sorting things like this and NHS staffing on our own.
Do remainers on here really think that we need big brother EU telling us what to do? You might. The rest of us don't.

"Oh Bellini, my facts are straight.

And this was enough to block WA, was it? No. WA was blocked by those Tories who voted against it plus the DUP not living up to their confidence and supply agreement. Change UK has 3 ex-Tories. Not enough to sink the Tory government unless Tories vote against the PM. Which they did. That is the reason WA didn't go through. If there were enough MPs on tbe opposition side to defeat the Tory government plus DUP we would have had a general election because of the recent no confidence vote. But we didn't.
Our failure to Brexit on 29 March is the Leave MPs fault. Stop blaming anyone else.

llamawearingasombrero · 14/05/2019 16:54

F off brexiteers. In a few years all the oldies who voted for brexit will be gone and the youth who voted remain or did not get to vote will vote us back into the EU. Make love (or love the EU) not war people!!!

bellinisurge · 14/05/2019 16:58

Easy @llamawearingasombrero . My Remain voting Mum died recently. Inher 80s it was her last vote.

Coppersulphate · 14/05/2019 17:00

Llama, I started this thread so that those of us who are for Brexit could rejoice together.
Inevitably the usual belligerent remainers weighed in to insult, antagonise and be rude.
I will not F off as you so politely put it.
I have as much right to post on MN as you have.
If you don't approve then why not ignore the thread.

OP posts:
Coppersulphate · 14/05/2019 17:01

And I am not "an oldie" both of my DCs and their partners voted leave.

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 14/05/2019 17:02

@Coppersulphate why is it belligerent to point out facts? And fwiw, I have said that llamawearingasombrero should not talk about Leavers as old people only. I know plenty of young Leavers. Many of whom refuse to face facts like you.

Sycamorish · 14/05/2019 17:16

Anyway, coppersulphate, back to the subject of the thread. I am excited about the Brexit Party and the quality and diversity of their candidates. If they win Peterborough that will really cheer me up.

Sycamorish · 14/05/2019 17:18

Still no comments from remainers on why James Wells (former head of UK Trade at the ONS) and John Longworth (former Director General of the UK Chamber of Commerce are standing for the Brexit Party.
Anyone got any theories?

Coppersulphate · 14/05/2019 17:19

I agree Sycamore. Let us ignore the rude insults.
I think they are jealous because the Remain parties won't speak to each other.

OP posts:
Sycamorish · 14/05/2019 17:20

Can you blame them?

Coppersulphate · 14/05/2019 17:21

Sycamor. They are standing for the Brexit party because it is the only sensible party. And they are experts so they should know.
We know that the remainers like experts.

OP posts:
Totaldogsbody · 14/05/2019 17:27

Sycamorish
I think the fact they're both former of sums it up.

1tisILeClerc · 14/05/2019 17:28

{Climate change has nothing to do with Brexit. }

Well at least you have got something right.
