I would have thought would have been the lead story on the bbc news, and in fact would have popped up on breaking news. I can't find it anywhere on there. In fact they're still reporting no deal will happen on Friday in the absence of anything else.
I am so confused, can anyone explain this to me?

it shouldn't be used as an hostage as to why we can't leave the EU.

But it's not being used like that. Right from the start there was an offer on the table (see the Barnier staircase slide): you can leave the EU with a sensible, soft, gradual Brexit that keeps the GFA intact. Or you can have a hard Brexit but in that case you need a backstop to protect Irish interests.

But the frothing no dealers don't want pragmatic sensible solutions.

1tisILeClerc · 28/04/2019 21:39

As time goes on, the leavers who were so full of 'we won, get over it' seem to be going off the reality of what it means.

HateIsNotGood · 28/04/2019 22:02

Looking right back atcha leClerc and no frothing going on here Mist much as I do realize that your descriptives of Leave voters would rather all of us were doing so.

I haven't ever said "We Won, get over it" because I'm too much of a good sport to say, or even think, such things...because you can never be a good winner if you don't know what losing feels like.

Maybe a lot of remain voters are so used to being on the 'winning side' they don't know how to lose, or at least lose gracefully?

Anyways my words are lost on most of you, as you're too entrapped by your own thinking, but it's been a good game today, mostly a fair game - we should do it more often - unless you prefer to discriminate against all people because they voted a certain way that you don't agree with.

But then we know how that sort of thinking leads don't we?
Concentration Camps for Leave Voters, "Let them Starve", etc all because they voted a different way to you.

Nighty night - sleep well and my best wishes to all, irrespective to how any of you voted (or didn't vote) I wish you all the best.

bellinisurge · 29/04/2019 05:38

Ah yes, Leaver victimhood. I'd forgotten about that nonsense. How foolish of me.

Micky665544 · 29/04/2019 05:44

as if Barnier and the general bunch of Remainers give two hoots about the GFA

most had never even heard of it until it became a ruse to keep the UK in the EU

bellinisurge · 29/04/2019 05:49

Ah yes, it's all a ruse. All those pesky grown ups spoiling our beautiful dream.
And no, I'm not much of a fan of Barnier etc.

bellinisurge · 29/04/2019 07:27

Just because Leavers didn't think about NI or realise its significance doesn't mean grown ups didn't.

1tisILeClerc · 29/04/2019 08:13

Micky665544
Yet more inattention to detail. I am not sure if it was Mr Barnier, but certainly many on the EU negotiating TEAM were heavily involved in the drafting of the GFA.
All part of striving to make things better for as many as possible and to make the world more positive. This is a significant contrast to the 'leave' ideology of 'we don't care about anyone else' and isolationism.
If the EU did not have this positive stance then they would be perfectly entitled to say to the UK, OK you are leaving, goodbye, and don't expect any favours. They could refuse to trade with the UK, or allow flights and shipping. The 'they want UK money' is not a good reason. While it would be a significant blow to the EU economy, it is shared across 27 countries and 450 Million people. For the UK that level of isolationism will be a lot more serious.

Peregrina · 29/04/2019 08:13

I believe Barnier was one of the people who helped negotiate the GFA, so I doubt if he'd want to willingly rip up something which was a great achievement, and one I thought would have been well nigh impossible to achieve. Oh well, silly me, it's only Leavers who are sensible.

1tisILeClerc · 29/04/2019 08:48

I think it was Mr Barnier who was due to step down at the end of his term but said he wanted to remain until Brexit negotiations were completed. Knowledgeable dedicated politicians are desperately needed now and it is obvious that the UK is having problems finding sufficient numbers of these who have these qualities. Soundbite may be good for slogans, but thorough depth of knowledge is key.

Which E Europeans are these?

noblegiraffe · 29/04/2019 11:41

Maybe a lot of remain voters are so used to being on the 'winning side' they don't know how to lose

I think a lot of remain voters were on the ‘losing side’ in the last three general elections so have quite a bit of practice. Maybe they’re acting out of genuine concern, and not just simply because they’re sore losers.

But that wouldn’t fit your narrative.

Micky665544 · 29/04/2019 12:14

most of the Remainers are just 'acting out' - ie. getting all hysterical about a 'cause' they don't really even believe in

just mega virtue, pro lib signalling

bellinisurge · 29/04/2019 12:17

This is US terminology @Micky665544 . Doesn't work here. Maybe you should spend some time in the UK and then you'd see it for yourself.

Micky665544 · 29/04/2019 12:22

aren't you the guy living in the US who suddenly cares about NI?

How does that work out, sounds a little pot-kettle-black to me, no?

bellinisurge · 29/04/2019 12:24

I don't live in the US. I never have. I have family there. I'm not a "guy ". And I'm half Irish. I'm old too. So I remember stuff.

bellinisurge · 29/04/2019 12:25

And I was talking about the border issue on here before Brexit.

jasjas1973 · 29/04/2019 12:28

Don't bother Belli, Micky is just another so called leaver who won't answer the awkward questions and posts rubbish as a diversion.

bellinisurge · 29/04/2019 12:31

See my problem, @jasjas1973 , is that I want to try and explain stuff to them. I got accused of wanting to put Leavers in concentration camps yesterday 😂. Fuck 'em.

noblegiraffe · 29/04/2019 12:34

It’s virtue signalling to be concerned that Leave voters won, and since then British politics has gone down the toilet? That things are so shit that leavers in parliament blocked Brexit, it didn’t happen and we are now on our second extension to get our shit together?

Are leavers surveying their realm and going ‘ah yes, everything is going exactly to plan’ while remainers are fussing about nothing?

I don’t think so.

bellinisurge · 29/04/2019 12:37

Micky665544 doesn't appear to like be in the UK or the EU so they can merrily stir Brexit shit without consequences. On them, that is. We've had a couple of posters like that. Wonder if it's the same one but with name changes.

Hard to tell - they were up early this morning. Grin
