Westminstenders: The gall of the french

We are full steam ahead with European Parliamentary Elections! Something that seemed unthinkable a few weeks ago.

May still remains adament that they will not happen, but the die has been cast.

May is off to beg Macron and Merkel to back an extension but the French are already stating they want assurances we won't screw thing up for everyone else.

May still is pushing for a deal with Corbyn and a Not a compromise.

Still there is no sign of a breakthrough either for an extension nor over a cross party deal. It drags on, but at least no one has mentioned the WA for ten minutes.

We might yet be in Europe for another Eurovision. Psychologically this feels important.

The ERG are not happy.

I don't understand why you're all suddenly so optimistic?!!

because TM has accepted that no-deal is off the table. That means either she gets that WA through, or at some point, we revoke. With the EU removing the hyperbole with an extension, it seems the mood across the country is leaning away from leaving. At least that's my take on it.

The bottom line is that for all the frothing, most people are sick and tired of Brexit and have realised that while it's "a thing" then there are a lot of other things being neglected. As my MP rather sharply noted when she walked around the constituency a few weeks ago. Nobody was talking Brexit. They were talking knife crime, austerity, NHS, and schools.

In non-Brexit but nevertheless important news Wink, Darcey is leaving Strictly ShockSad

I'm sure there must be some wonderful moral to be drawn from the duality of this thread this afternoon: Nits & Brexit!

(And anyone who has got a nit problem has my sympathy - remember it well, many years ago when DC were young.)

Reading this back before posting I think Nits & Brexit says it all. Grin

Darcexit! I bet they get some young mover and shaker to judge that I've never heard of.

Government adviser sacked for unacceptable misogynistic, racist and homophobic comments. (At last.)

Why don't they check these people first?

Dancing around singing 'Long extension' to the tune of Kool and the Gang's Get Down On It. Join me! 'Nits and Brexit' could also work...

What a scrotum Angry

I do feel the mood is shifting on Brexit. The 29 March passed and there was only a tiny protest. The PM couldn’t get parliament to pass the WA on Brexit day. Then there was the Osborn article. Now the parties are selecting candidates for the European elections. They’re going to have to start focusing on the local elections (only 3 weeks away). Time is passing, and - as the saying goes - a week is a long time in politics. Even a short extension could mean a relatively big change in the political landscape.

When I went to the march I thought it would be too little too late. Now I’m not so sure. Maybe it did make a difference.

I would like to be optimistic but what about if May is pushed out tonight and Boris is PM by next month? Then he'll tear the WA up and pursue th hardest of Brexit. Don't you think?

DarlingNikita · 10/04/2019 18:13

Thanks Red. I'm more hopeful than I've been for ages about a Revoke.

Love that Led by Donkeys quote outside Jaguar LandRover Grin

I'm loving the Led By Donkeys stuff in Brussels today. Brings a smile to the face and a tear to the eye.

As there’s not a lot happening (well obviously there’s a lot happening but no concrete news as yet) and, as an alternative the nits conversation, I wondered if anyone else finds themselves worrying about Westminstenders who used to post a lot but then suddenly disappear? I was very relieved when woman came back and I worried a lot about KenDodd but then she/he came back, but now she/he has disappeared again. I’ve been worrying for a while now about PCPlumsTruncheon, who never seems to post now. I wondered if one or both had name changed?

Is it weird that I worry?

Tonsilss · 10/04/2019 18:18

I suspect that we'll get the WA, and quite soon? All the head banger leavers seem to be coming round to the WA as the only way to get Brexit. And to be planning to ditch May and go extreme with the post-Brexit process. So I'm certainly not celebrating yet.
I'd also welcome a bit of certainty with a leaving date (if we are leaving). It's really stressful and disruptive not knowing when we will be out of the EU.
For one thing, I don't know whether we should start to eat our stockpile, and if/when we should start buying a new stockpile! We have rather a large stockpile...

OublietteBravo · 10/04/2019 18:19

The PMs outfit appears to have been inspired by the EU flag. Is it camouflage so she can sneak into the EU27 meeting while they are deciding our fate?

No. It's not weird.
I was very concerned about woman too (sorry woman!)

Are they having a fash spring clean?

'Fash Spring Clean' could be a prime TV programme hit:

NoWordForFluffy · 10/04/2019 18:22

Oh no, I'd rather Shirley leave Strictly than Darcy. I hope they get somebody decent to replace her.

I can't bring myself to think too positively until we know what the extension is later on. I want to be positive, but also feel that I should be cautious.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall right now with the EU27; I imagine it's very interesting!

woman19 · 10/04/2019 18:23

Aww thanks Babooshka and Iambuffy I got several lovely messages from several lovely posters. It was just nice to step back and have a break from SM for a while. Smile

NoWordForFluffy · 10/04/2019 18:26

Oh, and bloody nits are a nightmare. DD has long hair which is plaited at school and has caught them a couple of times. We use the conditioner plus Nitty Gritty comb (and head torch to free up the hands!) which works well, plus we also used Hedrin.

DS has only had them once, thankfully.

MissLucyHoneychurch · 10/04/2019 18:27

Oh God, watching BBC News just now and I die a little inside every time they do a vox pox.

CordeliaEarhart · 10/04/2019 18:29

Thanks again for suggestions, I'll pass them along. She's on Easter holiday now so we have two weeks to relax nit-free. Though all of the talk has made my head itchy so may have to pop round to DMs for a check - she's an expert at finding them due to years of one of DSis2's classmates being neglected and never having them dealt with (amongst other issues).

Also loving ledbydonkeys today - how awesome that they are putting the wishes of the 16million to the EU27, even if our domestic politicians are studiously ignoring us. They are definitely in my dream team to run the country.

A few people are suggesting TM could be pushed out by the Tories - anyone know if this could happen? I thought they had to wait til December for a new confidence vote.

Littlespaces · 10/04/2019 18:32

Maybe Darcy could run the country?

There might be a vacancy soon and she would be better than the current contenders. Not difficult, I know.
