We are full steam ahead with European Parliamentary Elections! Something that seemed unthinkable a few weeks ago.

May still remains adament that they will not happen, but the die has been cast.

May is off to beg Macron and Merkel to back an extension but the French are already stating they want assurances we won't screw thing up for everyone else.

May still is pushing for a deal with Corbyn and a Not a compromise.

Still there is no sign of a breakthrough either for an extension nor over a cross party deal. It drags on, but at least no one has mentioned the WA for ten minutes.

We might yet be in Europe for another Eurovision. Psychologically this feels important.

The ERG are not happy.

imo, Merkel needs to show she's working hard on other matters too, or voters may punish her party

Matthew Karnitschnig@MKarnitschnig

How interested is Germany in #Brexit?

Merkel just spent over an hour in the Bundestag answering MP questions and fielded just one Brexit-related question (from one of her own MP's).

howabout · 10/04/2019 17:01

Still on nits. It is actually counterproductive to shave hair off as it can make it harder to comb them out as they cling closer to the scalp and there is nothing for the comb to grip.

BlueEyeshadow · 10/04/2019 17:01

Do any knowledgeable people here know where I can find the Hansard records for the indicative votes on 1 April and how each MP voted?

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 17:03

Jennifer Rankin @jennifermerode
Emmanuel Macron says he has three principles on extension.
1 European project maintains its coherence. "The unity of the EU is at stake" and nothing shd damage its functioning
2. Respect the democratic vote of UK to leave
3. Need clarity "the time for decisions is now".

When a Frenchman is the ERGs biggest ally in Europe.

Emmanuel Macron will find himself isolated at tonight’s European Union summit in Brussels, after overplaying his hand by threatening Britain with a no deal Brexit.

Now call me cynical (?) but there's an open goal for a story about how the Brits defeated the dastardly French (once again ....) for Kipper consumption, if it's needed. It doesn't need to be true. Just printed. Like so much "news" these days Sad.

lonelyplanetmum · 10/04/2019 17:03

Cordelia I agree loads of any conditioner (but tea tree is good for deterrence purposes) and combing through twice a week after conditioning - wiping each comb through on a tissue.

Of the preprepared treatments - Hedrin overnight is the most effective- but not the 15 minute one.

howabout · 10/04/2019 17:04

Final word honest. Just read the comment about long haired girls entangling their locks. Actually boys rough and tumbling in the playground all the time, as is there want, are probably at least as much at risk of hair to hair contact.

Irish Poll on Extension

The Irish public - not Varadkar - prefer a SHORT exension

Brexit fatigue / impatience ?
I think I observe this too in Germany

Darran Marshall@DarranMarshall

Irish Poll for @RTE :

"Should the UK be given a short or a long extension period to figure out an ageeemmenr to exit the EU?"

Short 53%
Long 34%
Don’t know 13%

Bigchoc saw an interview with Katya and Angela Merkel's successor this week. Makes me wonder if they could actually start double teaming so that Merkel deals with the present and Brexit but the Vision Thing which dictates future voting moves more to her successor?

Surely a good opportunity for Merkel to blame current domestic hiccups atm on Brexit without it sticking to her or her Party?

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 17:11

BlueEyeShadow use

commonsvotes.digiminster.com/?Term=&FromDate=01%2F04%2F2018&ToDate=01%2F04%2F2019

and click on the Ayes or Noes, to see how all the individual MPs voted, also parties

BlueEyeshadow · 10/04/2019 17:13

Thanks, BCF, had just found that one, which proves my MP is either confused or telling porkies.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 17:16

howabout I assume Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer is already making use of the interlude to make her plans for the next few years.

She has been making useful contacts and networking too, within Germany and with foreign leaders, who all seem to visit her too

She has the valuable gift of time, to plan what to do when she comes into office.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 17:17

However, there are rumblings that Merkel is spending too much time on Brexit

havingtochangeusernameagain · 10/04/2019 17:18

Should the UK be given a short or a long extension period to figure out an agreement to exit the EU

The question is about "exiting" the EU.

Had it been asked "to decide whether it still actually wants to leave" I wonder if the votes would be a little different.

It's all in the asking of the question! Do they actually want to be shot of us, or do they want it to go away (which could be us leaving - or staying).

DGRossetti · 10/04/2019 17:19

which proves my MP is either confused or telling porkies

What do they "remember" and what did they vote, out of interest ?

havingtochangeusernameagain · 10/04/2019 17:21

which proves my MP is either confused or telling porkies

Well.

As DAG would say.

prettybird · 10/04/2019 17:24

I found the most effective method for head lice when ds and I got them (ds never itched but I did so I was the one who would find out he had another infestation Hmm) was the conditioner and nitty gritty comb technique every time I washed ds' my hair (I had long and very thick hair at the time Hmm)

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 17:24

The EU can't invite us to Revoke - at this stage, it would guarantee we wouldn't !
So even polls in the E27 shy away from that

However, I suspect Tusk is still doing all he can to allow time for Revoke to become politically feasible.

E27 leaders may think that the chance of Revoke has rocketed, but they must still concentrate on the present
and on coping with the dangerously chaotic, disfunctional UK political state

whenthewhistleblows · 10/04/2019 17:27

Sorry if this has already been discussed, I can’t keep up with this thread! The guardian stated today that Macron is pushing for the UK to ‘lose its EU Commissioner’ role.

Can someone explain the impact of that and, if we were to lose it, what the impact would be if we ended up remaining?

CordeliaEarhart · 10/04/2019 17:30

I meant DSis would rather shave her own head than not treat head lice. Not really sure it's fair to question her parenting based on that. Thanks to those who've offered helpful head lice suggestions tho, but hopefully we won't No Deal and thus will continue to have access to all available treatments.

Tonsilss · 10/04/2019 17:32

I don't understand why you're all suddenly so optimistic?!!

ChiaraRimini · 10/04/2019 17:32

Re head lice, if the child has long hair is it plaited every day for school as leaving it loose makes it easier for the nits to jump in. My DD has waist length hair and we've only had one episode, she's 8.
Hedrin is a very good treatment, it is non toxic to humans but coats the nits in silicone so they suffocate. Leaves the hair lovely and shiny.

Tanith · 10/04/2019 17:35

This is the bees knees of nit-busting:

www.chc.org/the-bug-buster-kit-products/

The combs are neon yellow so show the little blighters right up.
