And how shit was it before GFA

GFA arranged in 1998. 25 years after UK joined the EU. So where was the peace that EU is meant to promote between 1973 and 1998?

LegoPeopleEverywhere · 08/04/2019 11:56

C
Or possibly D, May and Corbyn come up with a compromise and whip their parties to vote for it and it just scrapes through the HoC.

I would prefer B, though!

mummmy2017 · 08/04/2019 12:02

Have you factored in how worried the EU is about the MEP number of Anti European candidates that are forecast to enter at the next elections...you should hear people round here saying the will vote UKIP. .
It could be they offer us nothing.
And we do get no deal..

bellinisurge · 08/04/2019 12:04

@MayhemNowCertain , you mean the not having another European War? That kind of unimportant shit.

notangelinajolie · 08/04/2019 12:05

You think each and everyone of the 17.4 million will buy that? It only takes a small number of determined people to wreak havoc. The 11 September 2001 attack on the USA changed the World forever, but it only took a small number of people

Mayhem - I am one of the 17.4 million. However parliament is pro remain and are intent on stopping Brexit so yes, I do think that revoke is the likely outcome.

bellinisurge · 08/04/2019 12:09

What is "stopping Brexit " is the failure to come up with a solution for the NI border. That is literally the only thing stopping Brexit.

Mayhem I'm an ardent remainer but think you are off your chump insulting leavers by likening their possible revoke reaction to that of 9/11? Let me guess, you buy into a lot of conspiracy theories don't you Hmm

notangelinajolie · 08/04/2019 12:21

*What is "stopping Brexit " is the failure to come up with a solution for the NI border. That is literally the only thing stopping Brexit."

No I don't believe that. Even if the NI border problem was solved and the DUP were happy there would still a majority of MPs who would wore the WA down.

bellinisurge · 08/04/2019 12:27

@notangelinajolie , based on what?
This to and fro about Customs Union/Vassal State is all because the WA tries to shove the whole of the UK into the fix for NI.
If TM had a majority, she wouldn't give a shit about the DUP.

MayhemNowCertain · 08/04/2019 12:28

No I don't believe that. Even if the NI border problem was solved and the DUP were happy there would still a majority of MPs who would wore the WA down

Correct. Once one issue is been solved they will think of another complaint.

bellinisurge · 08/04/2019 12:29

Again, based on what?

MayhemNowCertain · 08/04/2019 12:32

Again, based on what?

Based in fact that majority of MPs voted remain in June 2016 long before any of these micro details surfaced.

Cottonwood · 08/04/2019 12:34

You think NI is a micro detail? Shock

bellinisurge · 08/04/2019 12:37

Speaks volumes if you think NI is a micro detail.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 08/04/2019 12:57

Here's my solution: virtual border in the sea. NI made a special economic area

Yes I see no reason (other than the DUP) why this could not work. As I've said ad nauseum on here, NI IS a special case due to its citizens remaining EU citizens whatever happens to the status of NI itself. So you might as well make it officially a special case.

Cottonwood · 08/04/2019 14:57

Might Scotland not feel a bit uncomfortable with a special area as they also voted Remain? Obviously the political situation is totally different but..?

bellinisurge · 08/04/2019 15:36

@Cottonwood , yes. Until now I was against Scotland seceding from the Union but after the Brexit referendum result I have changed my mind. It's up to Scotland.

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/04/2019 15:46

The 11 September 2001 attack on the USA changed the World forever, but it only took a small number of people

The only way this would happen is if Russia decided to fund terrorism on British soil. If you think about it, since Russia hates the EU, a really good defender against them is staying in the EU. Divide and conquer and all that.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 08/04/2019 19:12

Might Scotland not feel a bit uncomfortable with a special area as they also voted Remain

it's not about how they voted, it's about having EU citizens (ie Irish) in an EU territory. The vast majority of the population of NI are entitled to Irish passports even if they don't want them. Therefore they are de facto EU citizens via that route if not via their British ones. NI is no longer an EU territory but the population are or can be EU citizens.

That is very different to Scotland. Although I thought the same would have applied at least temporarily after an indyref yes vote as everyone in Scotland would have been British and therefore EU citizens until they got their Scottish passports sorted out.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 08/04/2019 19:12

Of course NI IS still an EU territory at the moment. I mean after Brexit.

YeOldeTrout · 08/04/2019 20:53

I guess A) is the one thing that Parliament firmly agreed against. So we can rule that out.
Really leaves C) as only viable alternative.
*Assuming EU will somehow allow an extension.

Revoke only possible if EU really dug in & refused any extension.

I dread MEP elections. Gosh, just WTF do people think will happen in MEP elections? Will it be all LibDems/Greens & UKIP that get elected? I loathe idea of that numpty Farage continuing with his megafone.

(I would personally like the unicorn = B, large majority consensus for permanent Revoke, but I don't believe in unicorns, so...)

Me too. I am just hoping the vote gets diluted between Tory right, Brexit party, UKIP and the other splinter groups and he doesn't get elected.

KennDodd · 08/04/2019 21:42

Sadly (in this case) they have PR in the EU so if he gets enough votes, he's in, even if he isn't the 'winner'.

Bearbehind · 08/04/2019 21:51

Well, 20% of the week has gone and sweet FA has happened.
