What do you think will happen (not want to happen) come Friday

A) no deal
B) revoke
C) long extentsion
D) something else

Isn’t that exactly the problem here - the fact that people genuinely don’t give a shit between A and B, just as long as it’s over is exactly why we should choose B.

Thing is, whichever way things go, we're going to have another decade (at the very least) arguing about this.

MirandaWest · 07/04/2019 21:16

I really have no idea

namechangetohidemyshame · 07/04/2019 21:18

I have noooooooo idea.

Like, none.

I do tend to agree with a PP who said that the EU will be pushed to grant an extension to save Ireland; despite this clearly being a bad decision in almost every other way, they surely can't leave the island of Ireland to its fate?

I say 'they' but of course the UK was and is still a member of the EU, at least until Friday.

Theresa seems to have lost the plot though, as per her video statement earlier.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/04/2019 21:21

Revoke is politically unthinkable.

No deal is economically unthinkable.

So C or D.

Chlo1674 · 07/04/2019 21:33

Long extension followed by a confirmatory vote on whatever deal is eventually brought to the table (and we will be worse off before this whole thing kicked off in the first place). I’m not sure what I want anymore to be honest. I can see the benefits of EU membership but there are things I feel deeply uneasy about. I get the impression they are pushing for all members to become one nation. There’s the idea of an EU army and I didn’t like the idea of my children being forced to serve a period of national service which I feel was a possibility. I also think that we would have been expected to join the Euro currency at some stage and this is something I would not want.

Bearbehind · 07/04/2019 21:36

Bloody hell - what evidence is there of any of that chlo

OP posts:
CrunchyCarrot · 07/04/2019 21:42

C long extension.

IndianaMoleWoman · 07/04/2019 21:46

C, followed by D - general election with new Conservative leader in the autumn. New leader with be a Boris/Gove/JRG who will push for No Deal. Unless the young people of this country rally behind an alternative party (Labour? Can’t see it) then Cons will win and we’ll be out early next year with No Deal. By which point, ironically, the people who started stockpiling for No Deal in 2016 will find that their tins are past their best before dates.

This country will be unrecognisable in 18 months’ time. By which point May (much like Cameron before her) will have her feet up on a pile of cash in her mansion somewhere whilst the rest of us a queuing at the food bank.

But then again, I may just be a pessimist.

Sarahlou63 · 07/04/2019 21:47

C. The UK parliament has shown again and again that it is incapable of making a decision, sticking to a decision or showing any sign of leadership so they will let the EU make the decision for them and then spend the remaing time until the next cliff edge bitching about it.

user1471453601 · 07/04/2019 21:50

I think the EU 27 have had enough of us, and who can blame them? I think Macron will get his way and we will be kicked out on friday

MeganBacon · 07/04/2019 21:51

C for now and eventually B.

Mum2jenny · 07/04/2019 21:57

Given the referendum we should be going for option A, just get out of the EU and then renegotiate

AhhhHereItGoes · 07/04/2019 21:58

C.

Mum2jenny · 07/04/2019 22:02

Surely it'd be better staying in the EU than going out with poorer terms.

However I'd prefer out, completely out but if this isn't achievable just stay in.

Out with poorer terms makes no sense to me.

CoffeeRunner · 07/04/2019 22:02

C.

I would prefer B. Even if only until such a time that an EU referendum can be held with the FULL facts & any potential deal/arrangements already agreed & out in the open.

If the majority still vote to leave in that situation then I will feel much easier about the whole thing.

OublietteBravo · 07/04/2019 22:03

Given the unpredictable Brexit roller coaster I’m going to go with D as being the most likely outcome come Friday. This could be a prelude to A or C in the medium term.

I was tempted to go with C (but I’m not as it does rather rely on TM coming up with a plausible reason). We might get there, but unlikely to be by Friday.

I’m worried about A, but again I don’t think it will happen come Friday (lots of noises from various bits of the EU about another couple of weeks to finalise preparation for no deal). I’m not sure it’s been kicked into the long grass yet though. Still more likely than B.

Sadly not B, although I think this would be the most sensible way to resolve the current impasse. Probably not politically possible without a PV.

BlackeyedGruesome · 07/04/2019 22:10

Stockpiled stuff bought in 2016 is eaten long ago, due to stock rotation.

BlackeyedGruesome · 07/04/2019 22:11

Admittedly it is going to be harder to rotate the current stock as it is more tightly packed... But hey ho we are unlikely to starve.

Tehstean · 07/04/2019 22:16

I have no idea. I'm not sure anyone does. I used to think the powers-that-be had plans, plans that were kept hidden from us and only revealed when the time was right. That prospect was scary. Now I wonder if they genuinely don't have a plan, not even an evil one, and that those in charge have actually lost all control. That seems more scary.

Democracy relies on the blind trust of the electorate that the political classes know what they are doing, even if it is unpopular. The idea that they are flailing around creates opportunity which may be even worse. And even worse than BoJo, JRM, May, Grayling and the incomprehensible mess that is the Labour party atm, is pretty terrifying.

But going back to the security of a multiple choice question, I'm going for C. I want B. But I also want there to be a party I can put my faith in (even a new party and a better voting system), and I can't see that happening any time soon.

3boysandabump · 07/04/2019 22:16

D although I'm not sure what that will be but the other 3 options seem much too straightforward compared to what has gone on so far

pfrench · 07/04/2019 22:25

I want it to go away so we can focus on domestic stuff. So want B. That's the only one which ends it for now.

But, it'll be C because the EU will be the grownups. I'm clocking out of politics, this shit is going to go on for the rest of my life, which is an unbearable thought.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 22:57

C, if rejected A :(

Tonsilss · 07/04/2019 23:03

A. No Deal. Either on Friday or 2 weeks later.
The Tories are showing no sign of compromise and the EU have had enough.
Most of the Tory party wants to wreck the country.

prettybird · 07/04/2019 23:41
