If it comes down to the wire. If the EU refuse an extension and our only choices are revoke or no deal which way do you think it will go?

OP posts:

"However, the EU has said it will check imports from the UK as it would imports from any other non-member, putting major burdens on businesses."

This means extra costs to businesses exporting. Some of them will go out of business due to these extra costs. That means people losing jobs.

wherearemychickens · 30/03/2019 00:10

"HM Revenue and Customs have been communicating with businesses about the new customs processes they will need to follow if there is no deal, but many businesses are still unaware of the changes they will face."

Many businesses are /not/ prepared for what is about to hit them in the case of no-deal Brexit. Not many have applied for AEO status yet. A fraction of the number that will need to be.

wherearemychickens · 30/03/2019 00:11

"The UK has made a unilateral offer to EU citizens. Those in the UK on or before 29 March 2019 can gain settled status as they would if there was a deal – but there will be fewer rights for them in areas such as family reunification."

This /will/ separate families. There will be a personal cost - could you choose between looking after your children in one country, or your parent in another?

wherearemychickens · 30/03/2019 00:11

"The Government has said that it will continue to allow EU-approved agri-goods into the UK after a no deal exit. But UK exporters would need to get approval before being able to export any product of animal or plant origin to the EU. After that, they will face greater checks than now and will have to pass through a border inspection post."

Exporters - hammered again. More businesses going out of business. And as far as I'm aware, there aren't enough BIPs yet either. More queues/food rotting in lorries.

wherearemychickens · 30/03/2019 00:12

"There will also be problems exporting animal products to other countries if current EU agreements have not been replaced. The UK has said it will replace EU funding for farmers until the end of the current payment cycle.

There is no clarity over the UK’s approach to fishing quotas after Brexit."

And you have the inconvenient fact that the fish we tend to catch, we sell to Europe, but again, see above. It will be harder to sell. More businesses going out of business.

"The Government believes that “if everyone… does what they need to do, the supply of medicines and medical products should be uninterrupted”."

It looked like my Mum was going to need radiotherapy for a while a few weeks ago. I asked my MP for assurances that no-deal Brexit would not affect her treatment (we don't make the radioactive isotopes used in treatment in this country). He could not provide assurance. I asked him to ask the Ministry for Health. They replied; the response was vague enough to be useless. I was not reassured.

wherearemychickens · 30/03/2019 00:17

I'm only half way down the page... it goes on and on and on. There will be unknown dependencies that no one has thought about yet. This is a fraction of the problems.

Any policy that requires the establishment of a military command and control centre under the Ministry of Defence is not a sane policy.

wherearemychickens · 30/03/2019 00:22

In peacetime!

Parky04 · 30/03/2019 00:40

It is now time for no deal.

wherearemychickens · 30/03/2019 00:47

I give up. Does none of what I've just posted mean anything to you?

DoNotBlameMeIVotedRemain · 30/03/2019 01:47

I think they will revoke if no other alternative to no deal.

But I still hope MPs will agree on Monday that a People's Vote is only fair way to break the deadlock. And aTM will ask for long extension for 2nd ref with WA or remain on ballot paper.

Blondieg · 30/03/2019 01:53

No deal.

Topseyt · 30/03/2019 03:00

I will hope for revoke, but I won't hold my breath.

This lot of fuckwits in Parliament aren't exactly well endowed in the common sense department.

OutwithMyRemit · 30/03/2019 06:59

I hope Revoke. It'll piss off a few people, but people will be angrier when they're hungry, short of petrol and ill/dying because of medication shortages.

Europe export more to us than we do them... a deal will be reached between both parties, Europe wont cut off their nose to spite their face
The negotiations were handled terribly by our country from the start... did any of you listen to the former Greek finance ministers comments on question time the other night? The deal is like one you see a country sign after they have lost a war... and some people still want to back it... insanity
Trump negotiated hard and got the deal he wanted in a few months... whereas Obama got no where in years... why? Because he highlighted the importance of trading with the USA was to Europe and probably threatened insane tariffs on EU imports... but it worked.
No deal wont be armageddon, we will sign new trade deals around the world, and a new one with Europe... crisis averted.

Mistigri · 30/03/2019 07:30

Europe export more to us than we do them

It's like the last three years never happened.

wherearemychickens · 30/03/2019 07:51

Trade deals take years. Years and years. We will need to replace /all/ of our trade deals, bar a few that Liam Fox has managed to agree we can rollover.

And the very first thing that will come up when we go to Europe for a trade deal? The Irish backstop. They've said it already.

Sirzy · 30/03/2019 07:52

I think it will end no deal.

I hope it is revoked. Or at least extended for a reasonable amount of time for a proper solution to be found

DailyMailSucksWails · 30/03/2019 08:42

"Europe wont cut off their nose to spite their face"

But the UK will. :(
"If I don't get my way, I'm not playing with you any more!!": what a great negotiating strategy. Genius, that (Not).

Anothertempusername · 30/03/2019 08:46

Alexa there showing once again that our Leave contingent have made a snap decision in voting to leave without understanding any of the ramifications.

DailyMailSucksWails · 30/03/2019 08:51

Alexa's posts are scattergun, like hitting as many boxes on the bingo card as possible before going off to evangelise on other discussion forums?

But low effort, you know, like someone who hates their job but needs the money.

Peregrina · 30/03/2019 08:53

I believe Fox has managed to sign a trade deal with the Faroes. What on earth are we going to trade with them? Will we be importing wool for Sarah Lund type jumpers, in return for home made strawberry jam?

mummmy2017 · 30/03/2019 08:55

Had this been done on any other issue, the uproar of a fourth vote on something, just to force it through would be unbelievable.

Alexalee · 30/03/2019 08:57

Wto terms... the default... biggest trade deal in the world. Look it up
