Westminstenders: Arse about Face

Everything about Brexit seems to have been done wrongly.

Setting red lines to rule out a compromise

The attempt to use executive power to trigger A50, that resulted in a court case

Triggering A50 before knowing what the UK wanted

Agreeing to the backstop before any Tory MP understood the GFA

Appointing a Brexit minister before checking he understood where Dover was.

May going on about NI and pissing off the DUP before they were just about to climb down.

Having a Meaningless Vote repeatedly with a gun to head.

Contempt of Parliament and just general fucking up.

Tonight, 3 days before we were due to leave the HoC finally sat down to decide what Brexit outcomes they thought would be a good idea - more than 2years after that should have happened.

And we now we are told the meaningful vote might be may even more meaningless by being wrapped up in the illusive Withdrawal Agreement Implimentation Bill.

Farce doesn't even cover it.

Anyway Indicative Vote results incoming in approx 15 mins.

Dan Hodges predicting general election after DUP statement and likelihood ERG will join them because of that

CordeliaEarhart · 27/03/2019 21:49

The top 4 "most supported" might scare the hardliners to supporting may's deal. She doesn't need the DUP if she can get enough labour brexiteers.

Eyewhisker · 27/03/2019 21:50

This is just ridiculous. I don’t understand why more Tories didn’t vote for the CU

SwedishEdith · 27/03/2019 21:50

NotSureThisIsWhatIWant · 27/03/2019 21:50

Ok... that proves we are in this mess... because we are a mess. I wonder what would have happened if Corbyn had not decided to use the whip.

But then I don’t understand much so please ignore me.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 21:50

NO to everything was expected

We see No Deal and standstill got the most NOs, so are rules out

Norway and Revoke are unpopular

Winner looks like Ken Clarke's UK-wide CU, closely followed by PV

  • they could combine those
Yamayo · 27/03/2019 21:50

FFS. How immature.
It feels like they're ostriching and waiting for some miraculous intervention to sort everything out.

MockerstheFeManist · 27/03/2019 21:50

If the DUP won't have May's deal, it falls. Might even fall with them.

It's moving towards No Deal vs Revoke

And Revoke would win that.

wheresmymojo · 27/03/2019 21:50

G'wan Bercow!!!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 27/03/2019 21:50

How can a general election help? I think the Labour vote will be split.

Surely it’s the same effort to have a referendum instead of general election.

pepinana · 27/03/2019 21:50

Jesus what now ffs!!!

Notflyingfree · 27/03/2019 21:51

Yeah ok on second view it's maybe not too bad given the circumstances. Can it be Monday now please.

ClashCityRocker · 27/03/2019 21:52

Fucking pigs. If I acted like they do at work I'd be sacked.

BiglyBadgers · 27/03/2019 21:52

I'm pretty pleased with those results to be honest. Revoke was more than WTO and no deal, so that's a win in my book. It gives a good indication that parliament is going for a softer brexit with a PV if it can get its way.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 21:52

îmo, it's not just the highest number of AYEs that's important, but also the net AYE-NO

Ken Clarke's amendment had the lowest net negative, at -8
Ayes: 264
Noes: 272

SwedishEdith · 27/03/2019 21:54

Need six weeks' notice for a GE, I think? Would need to be announced pronto to not run into timings for Euro elections - I'd rather just have them.

prettybird · 27/03/2019 21:54

The scenes in the HoC are awful with trying to drown out Soubry.

This claims to be "the mother of all parliaments" Confused

It's an awful demonstration of "democracy" Shock. It's a disgrace Angry

Flowerplower · 27/03/2019 21:54

Omg that BBC news announcer speaking over Anna Soubry about the fact that she couldn't be heard...Well she would have been if you hadn't talked over her! ... And what she was saying was really important.

EweSurname · 27/03/2019 21:54

This is awful to watch - all this braying and jeering is stomach turning

woman19 · 27/03/2019 21:54

I agree Bigly.
If anyone had said 3 months ago that there'd be an extension to 29.3 and PV and CU getting higher votes than WA, that would have seemed wildly optimistic.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 21:54

That looks like Revoke is knocked out heavily

Hence difficult to put Revoke in a PV

TheMostBoringPersonEver · 27/03/2019 21:56

So Monday..what happens?

TiddleTaddleTat · 27/03/2019 21:56

Fascinating times

CordeliaEarhart · 27/03/2019 21:56

HoC is really embarrassing right now. In the EP they actually listen to whoever has the floor. From what I've seen, that is also true in Holyrood. Why is Westminster so full of dickheads.

BiglyBadgers · 27/03/2019 21:57

Hence difficult to put Revoke in a PV

I disagree. Revoke is the status quo and that needs to be in any referendum in my view. I would expect it to be whatever deal (by this vote a CU deal) versus status quo which is remain.
