If anyone says they know what will happen this week....

... They don't.

Maybe it would be a good idea for someone to talk to the eu quite soon and discuss possibilities.
I know Corbyn’s had meetings with them. Has Starmer ?

CordeliaEarhart · 25/03/2019 23:19

are they going to end up agreeing on something that's unobtainable?

Yeah, they're probably gonna vote for unicorns. Or something which TM hates and will ignore, e.g. anything other than her deal.

PestyMachtubernahme · 25/03/2019 23:24

TM will ignore anything that is not her deal.

Corbyn will ignore anything until someone pinches out his Cucurbits before they have had flowers.

Ethandun will become the capital of Wessex.

Peregrina · 25/03/2019 23:28

A Tory spokesperson, I didn't catch who, said that holding the EU elections would be bad for Labour as well as the Tories. He didn't say why. I can't see why it should be. Hard Brexit is now very much a Tory project, despite Corbyn's fence sitting.

I thought Harrington's letter was good, but at the same time, I thought he was getting his excuses in quick, before the eventual public enquiry into the Brexit fiasco.

GaspodeWonderCat · 25/03/2019 23:28

The EU has said 4 options:

NO Deal leave by 12 April
Revoke by 12 April
WA & PD leave by 22 May
'long delay' & EU elections - I think Letwin will be looking for ideas/thoughts/votes in this area.

Parliament has already rejected 'no deal' & TM WA so ... FFS REVOKE...

Great thread title RTB, it got me thinking about the arseholes who want no Deal and that lead me to the Voivod song Chaosmongers and then Macrosolutions to Megaproblems which then got me listening to the whole album. I think May needs a Brainscan, which is probably my favourite song ever. Piggy was possibly the most eclectic rock guitarist ever.

Sostenueto · 25/03/2019 23:33

I just had to read your 22.50 pm post twice prettybirdGrin

dreich I've run out of batteries so talk is all I can doHaloWink

Sostenueto · 25/03/2019 23:43

Thought I'd end the night with an historic piece of music as its a historic night.

Enjoy!

Sostenueto · 25/03/2019 23:45

Plantagenets......nite to allWine

prettybird · 25/03/2019 23:51

Peregrina - I think that neither Labour nor the Conservatives have the funds to fight an EU election let alone a GE Shock

I wonder why? Wink

And that's before one even considers just what platform they would run on. Corbyn in particular would explode with the need to actually firm up on his contradictory approach to Europe and finally be forced to admit that he is really a Lexiter Wink I can just imagine his head spinning like the girl in The Exorcist Shock

FunkyKingston · 26/03/2019 00:55

It will save Vauxhall the trouble of voting LibDem

Well they've voted Labour all these years and got a DUP MP in all but name.

LonelyTiredandLow · 26/03/2019 04:11

Well, as a somewhat chaste single lady no man has darkened my door in yrs I can't help noticing that this thread has taken a turn into Mills & Boon territory! I'm not sure it has inspired me to kick dd out of bed and replace her with a functioning male either Wink

Long catch up. Queen - surely doesn't want to see NI and Scotland vote out whenever they get a chance as a result of this? I know she stays out of things but really she would be foolish not to point out to the Leavers that all they will be left with (due to empire mentality) is ironically little England. I was going to name it 'Kingdom' (sans United) but see some of you are claiming that for Wessex Wink.

Loving the irony that people worried about sovereignty have caused such a lack of it that the govt are now going to ignore Parliament. That'll learn 'em. Agree Bigger Powers will be war gaming this and making notes of incompetenceweak spots. So leavers will have done more damage to UK democracy by one vote than any immigrant invasion ever has. Slow clap.

When Ministers resign I always hope they will go to TIGs. I'm sure the centre ground are biding their time and hoping Tory policy will reset back to right of centre...Still think the best think to do would be boot out ERG as the minority.

Have also noticed the effects of wine in the week and rapidly vanishing bars of chocolate from dd's sweetie tin Blush. I've discovered Racer and Jive bars from Aldi so am trying to tune out in the evenings a bit.

A few mums at school have now begun turning to me for updates. One was excitedly asking me about the indicative votes. I felt like I was crushing democratic dreams when I said Fox/TM had already said they would ignore them. At least they are paying attention now though!

Lastly another reminder that austerity is a false economy with pothole figures. How very Tory to do a hash job and over-spend! I'm sure there's a pun there somewhere...

LonelyTiredandLow · 26/03/2019 04:17

Although I've just seen Boles here saying
"If, ultimately, the government refuses to listen to what parliament has voted for then we will look to bring forward a Bill, pass an Act of Parliament that will require the government to reflect parliament's wishes in its new negotiating mandate."
Well - that'll be next week then... Hmm Can't they do these in advance?

PostNotInHaste · 26/03/2019 06:32

Signing in for another day in Brexitland from the Kingdom of Wessex. Have emailed my support to Letwin as a Dorset resident. Given that we have Chope who needs no explaining and Tomlinson who is deep into ERG and in the Star Chamber it is a huge relief to see someone say something I can relate to.

Woke up worrying about TM not listening to what Parliament wants, good to see from previous post that MPs are starting to address this, though utterly unbelievable that this is even an issue.

MockerstheFeManist · 26/03/2019 06:41

PostNotInHaste:

We also have Drax who is Brexit Bonkers, Burns who is to the right of Genghis Khan, and my man, Ellwood, who is a reluctant May loyalist and thoroughly nice guy, for a Tory.

PostNotInHaste · 26/03/2019 06:56

I try to pretend Drax doesn’t exist, Tomlinson is mine and Chope very close so harder to ignore. Have emailed Elwood before to thank him for something sensible . Comment from someone at the weekend ‘my MP lives up to his name’, didn’t quite get who she meant so asked who . It’s Hoare.

Unfortunately our local paper has closed so can’t write to letter page and bring to attention what Tomlinson up to, I know a lot of people don’t know. Will have a think about what to do on that , this is the start of a recent Times article:

‘Michael Tomlinson is not a household name. The Eurosceptic Tory MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole was a barrister before entering parliament four years ago, and is not given to attention-grabbing statements. Yet he might just be the most important person in Britain you have never heard of.’

missclimpson · 26/03/2019 07:06

Ellwood is mine too though I don't live in Wessex anymore. He once came canvassing and said how nice it was to meet Labour supporters. 😀

Runningintothesunset · 26/03/2019 07:13

Oh god, my mp was one of the eejits who voted against the amendments last night. And is a labour no Angry

Anyone up for helping me compose an email to her today?!

Flowerplower · 26/03/2019 07:16

My MP is Damien Moore. He's useless and votes with government every time. He only got in because so many labour voters were persuaded to vote Lib Dem - they were told Labour couldn't win in our constituency. Then labour came in second after Tory and would have won if the vote hadn't been split with Lib Dem. Confused I've written to Damien Moore and he does eventually write back but doesn't say anything much. He's an interesting character - used to manage an Asda and then became an MP, and is openly gay. Unfortunately there is nothing interesting about his voting record which is predictable and sad.

NoWordForFluffy · 26/03/2019 07:21

Morning!

I emailed Anna Soubry in the early hours, thanking her for standing up for us against TM.

It's crazy that MPs are having to consider forcing a Bill to make the government do as parliament desires. We live in bonkers times!

(Going back to the other thread, I'm a rarity as I did Tudor and Stuart history for GCSE. I've never learned modern history!)

NoWordForFluffy · 26/03/2019 07:22

Flowerplower, he's mine too. We're close neighbours it would seem!

👋

ElenadeClermont · 26/03/2019 07:25

With all your talk of Wessex my dreams were set in The Last Kingdom. [sigh]

PestyMachtubernahme · 26/03/2019 07:28

MPs will now vote on a range of Brexit options on Wednesday, giving parliament a chance to indicate whether it can agree on a deal with closer ties to Brussels - and then try to push the government in that direction.

People had to resign to get this simple concept through?

How about they set up 100 indicative questions on an app such as Kahoot, could be done today. Then ask about a dozen tomorrow in the HoC.

They need an amendment to get rid of the whips, temporarily.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 26/03/2019 07:30

I know Corbyn’s had meetings with them. Has Starmer ?

Yeah he was there with Corbyn last week was it?

Some amazing speeches last night, I liked the passion Lisa Nandy had last night, didnt like the content so much 'they knew what they voted for' The speeches by Soubry and Allen were good as well

Consider the above a belated PMK at 27 pages

BercowsSilkTie · 26/03/2019 07:35

Morning all. Thankfully no sex dreams last night and little one's temperature is down this morning so so far a good morning.
What shenanigans will today bring? I'm hopeful by the above post about passing a bill to make the government pay attention to what parliament want. This whole situation is beyond ludicrous.
