A thread for those of us on the march today :)

Weather still looking good, (perhaps, possibly, even some sunshine?) temps around 12-14, a little gusty at times, cooling off in the evening, so bring an extra jumper if you haven't set off.

Travel safely and see you at the march!

Just putting this here. Will of the people, eh?

It's interesting that anybody's trying to talk the numbers down. Surely there must be aerial footage of similar marches before that could be used to verify the organisers' claims? How anyone could look at this and think it was just a few tens of thousands beats me.

Leavers attempt to discredit the marches every time. However none of them were there so they cannot speak with any authority.

DippyAvocado · 24/03/2019 12:37

I've been on every one of the marches and this one was the biggest by far. I could tell as soon as I arrived at the tube station - I am usually the only marcher from my area and my carriage was packed with them this time. It took far longer for people to get through than normal. I was near the back of October's march and managed to get as far as Whitehall before it was impossible to get any further. This time some people couldn't even get to the end of Picadilly.

Emilyontmoor · 24/03/2019 12:55

I agree, I have been on all the marches and the last one was exponentially bigger than the one before and this one much bigger again. The side streets were full of marchers as well and I ended up in a mini march past Buckingham Palace when Green Park tube closed, the Queen was sadly not there to see it. We did make it to the square in time for the speeches and apart from Lammy it was the women who gave the most stirring speeches, Anna Soubrey, Caroline Lucas, Jo Swinson (and baby Gabriel) Nicola Sturgeon and Jess Phillips (Theresa’s imaginary friend the British public 😂😂) were the women who spoke for me.

Mistigri · 24/03/2019 13:45

Apparently Peter Bone has said it wasn't really a march. It was just a walk.

It was quite a brisk walk at the front. We were in Parliament Square by about 1.30 or maybe even a bit before. We were there for a while before the speeches started.

SwoopTheJackpot · 24/03/2019 13:46

There were some great posters at the March. I loved the little dog with the placard saying "it's a real dog's brexit" Grin Well done everyone involved.

Littlespaces · 24/03/2019 13:47

I loved this. Smile

There were so many dogs! I don’t remember seeing many at all at previous marches! I was with a young scientist bunch and they reckoned it was an Instagram trend.....

Runningintothesunset · 24/03/2019 14:48

@Mistigri - what time did you arrive? We arrived at park lane at 11.50 and peeled off at 4.30 and didn’t get to parliament square, it was definitely very slow movement forwards for us!

Runningintothesunset · 24/03/2019 14:50

I also wanted to say how heartened I was to see a full (people stood all the way) virgin train down the west coast mainline.

PestyMachtubernahme · 24/03/2019 17:38

A nice twitter thread about the estimated numbers 1m+ or poss 2m

‘Democracy in action’ 😂 hilarious - love how so many are just choosing to forget the outcome of the original vote!

DarkYearForMySoul · 24/03/2019 17:41

Between 1-2 million people converged on the streets of London yesterday (including me and family) without a single incident or the need for policing. This is remarkable!
French press are astounded British politicians don’t pay more respect to mass movements like this. They’re also impressed how peaceful we are.
Well done everyone 😁

DarkYearForMySoul · 24/03/2019 17:47

@Jogonandshutup are you choosing to forget that the 2nd ref in 2016 has been found to have multiple cases with criminal levels of illegality. The High Court has said if it gad had legal standing (not just advisory) it would have been overturned.
If we continue abide by result we set precedent that it’s ok to have corruption in British elections. No!
Both sides have to stand up for British democracy and demand voters are respected by having a legally run vote.

DippyAvocado · 24/03/2019 17:47

That BBC footage is amazing. It was filmed at 2.45pm. I was at the front of the march so by the time it was filmed I had got to the end of the route and gone for lunch so wasn't even in that footage.

TalkinPaece · 24/03/2019 17:54

I chatted to a couple of police yesterday
they looked so utterly chilled it was surreal
1,000,000 angry people were incredibly cheery

simiisme · 24/03/2019 18:00

A fantastic turnout - wish I'd been with you!
And absolutely no trouble, unlike many smaller marches for less savoury 'causes'
People who deny that it's democratic should check a dictionary for the definition of democracy.

puppy23 · 24/03/2019 18:07

Wish I'd been there - well done & thank you to everyone who was there

flabbymommy · 24/03/2019 18:07

Thank you guys for going out there. I physically couldn’t make it but had I been able to I would have joined you. You were the voice of the ones who the government are trying to ignore.

Toooldtobearsed2 · 24/03/2019 18:25

TalkinPaece the police were fab on the day. When we were making our way back to the coach, a couple of young lads on mopeds tried to come down Park Lane, which was still cordoned off. The policeman stopped them, told them to stop being dicks, turn off at the next exit and 'get off your bikes and on the march'.
That was in addition to them swaying their hips in time to the music 😁
I have to say, the police were bloody brilliant. Light touch amd so very friendly, giving directions and recommendations for loos 😁

LeadMeToTheChocolate · 24/03/2019 18:32

Sooo gutted I couldn’t go.... I’ll be at the front dressed in blue and yellow stars next time... well done everyone that went!!!!xxx

SandAndSnow · 24/03/2019 18:35

Absolutely agree that the police were fab. Toddler Dd is in quite a big hero-worship phase with the emergency services, and she insisted on going and talking to every police officer we saw. They were all lovely to her - chatting, showing her their radios, high-fiving, and one even let her try on his helmet. I have a great photo of it and it made her day.
