A thread for those of us on the march today :)

Weather still looking good, (perhaps, possibly, even some sunshine?) temps around 12-14, a little gusty at times, cooling off in the evening, so bring an extra jumper if you haven't set off.

Travel safely and see you at the march!

Congratulations to all of you wonderful marchers Flowers
I felt proud to be British again today!

Whackaguacamole · 23/03/2019 18:54

Ahh Elements we must have been just near you, those were 2 of my favourite placards!

My first march and a wonderful uplifting experience. So peaceful and respectful.

Then has we headed to the station a group of drunk gammon had a go and told us to "get out" Sad trying to remember the positives though!

Tanith · 23/03/2019 18:59

DH is saying it was easily 1million, probably more. He says everywhere he looked, there were people - a lot of them with Welsh flags, too, so much for Wales being pro-Brexit!

Lexilooo · 23/03/2019 19:06

We're not long back at our hotel exhausted and a little bit sunburnt bizarrely!

Had a wonderful time the mood was awesome, everyone was lovely, no trouble at all.

Hugely impressed by the age range, lots of older teenagers and young adults there without their parents behaving well and really boosting the mood but also lots of older folk. A family we followed had a baby, mum and elderly grandparents with a massive banner. Also saw an elderly lady with a shopping trolley/walker adorned with bollocks to brexit stickers.

Gutted that we missed the speakers, despite being there early it was gone 2pm before we moved at all and then only a couple of paces at a time.

So glad we can say we did something though!

lalalonglegs · 23/03/2019 19:08

Grrr, try to avoid accusing BBC of bias but 7pm R4 headline was "organisers said" more than a million and then cut to Bernard Jenkin telling us all why we were against democracy Angry

eurochick · 23/03/2019 19:09

We were there! We left before we got to Westminster having marched for more than three hours (tired four year old needed dinner and tired daddy who had carried her most of the way needed a sit down). It was very peaceful (as before) and seemed absolutely huge!

Here are some of my favourite placards.

Why is BBC being so arsey?

TheDogsMother · 23/03/2019 19:12

Throbbing feet and a well earned G & T on the train. It was amazing. So friendly and good natured and it really dispelled the myth that older people want to leave and younger to stay. I saw every age group and in pretty equal numbers

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 23/03/2019 19:16

I wish I could have been with you all. DH working so just me and the two tiny DC otherwise would have been there with bells on. Well done everyone.

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2019 19:21

This is democracy in action though.
I've never voted Tory but had to live through many years of their policies and not agreed with them. This is a different thing ( you could argue) but we all have the right to free speech/ be able to demonstrate peacefully etc. As proved today.

TwigTheWonderKid · 23/03/2019 19:25

I actually thought there were many more younger people this time. Certainly in June, and to a similar extent in October, the vast majority of people were at least 30+, (apart from the children who came) with many were in their 60s, This time there were lots of teenagers and twenty - somethings. I think before the younger ones did most of their protesting online but DH who works at a university had said the students were definitely mobilising this time and I think that was evident today.

SandAndSnow · 23/03/2019 19:26

We had such a fabulous day! The atmosphere was brilliant and there were so many funny placards. I kept my eyes peeled for red toothbrushes but didn't see any. So glad we made the effort to go.

But I'm glad to be home now with my feet up in front of the fire.

Thanks to all of you still travelling home.

And thank you OYBBK for being such a source of useful information and encouragement. It was our first march but I don't think it will be our last!

That my sons gf's banner and mine behind it!

Gooseysgirl · 23/03/2019 19:28

Had a fantastic day! This time we decided to skip the march and go straight to parliament square to hear the speeches... stand out speeches for me came from Sandi Toksvig, Caroline Lucas and Jo Swinson (who made her speech with baby Gabriel in his sling listening intently!) But perhaps most impressive of all were the 4 young people who spoke, one from each country of the UK - so eloquent and well thought out speeches. Lots of people commenting on lack of police presence but the reason is simple... they weren't needed! It was such a good-natured uplifting event. I'm so glad I was there.

flamingnoravera · 23/03/2019 19:29

"Eurochick"'s pics I meant re the banners.

lazylittlelucy · 23/03/2019 19:36

Just on train back to Manchester after a fab day. DH and I joined the March at Trafalgar Square at about 1pm so were on Parliament Square by about 1.20.
Speeches were amazing especially David Lammy, Nicola Sturgeon and Tom Watson.
We've never done anything like this before but am so glad we were part of it. A fabulous day and great atmosphere.
Also lots of booing and hissing at Downing St. SmileGrin

HotpotLawyer · 23/03/2019 19:38

Brilliant day - so many witty and humorous banners - The Great British Public at their best.

Brilliant community spirit.

Only problem was that Whitehall became a cul de sac - no one else could get into Parliament Sq and they were holding people in Whitehall and then people tried to back the other way...they needed to keep a clear route out of Parliament Sq to keep people moving through.

Huge numbers of people, vastly bigger than last time.

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2019 19:38

I saw a bit of Nicola's speech on tv.
She is a force of nature.

Mistigri · 23/03/2019 19:39

We were close to the front where it moved quite quickly, we were in parliament square before the speeches started. Downside is that it's very hard to get a sense of scale from the front!

TheElementsSong · 23/03/2019 19:39

Groovie and guacamole glad you liked our placards Smile lots of people stopped us to take photos of them, and quite a few stopped us to ask what “apeth” means Grin

borntobequiet · 23/03/2019 19:39

Back home now...hi lonely, bees and Courage!
It was a great day as everyone has said and anyone saying less than 1.5 million is lying.
Last time with 700000, I got to the Cenotaph by 3:30(ish), couldn’t go any further so left - got on Tube at St James relatively easily.
This time at 3:30 was at St James Palace, left there, Park very busy and Tube station jammed with overspill from crowd as march had stalled. It was at least twice as big!

lonelyplanetmum · 23/03/2019 19:40

Hi Born

Blibbyblobby · 23/03/2019 19:41

@BlueJag

"We are appalled at the complete disregard of the first referendum that hasn't been implemented."

What do you think should have been implemented? Farage's Norway option? Fox's "Easiest deal in human history"? You can't mean No Deal - after all in July 2016 Boris specifically told us that "there is very much a deal there to be done and the faster we can get on and do it the better.”

Honestly, the Leave conversation is like talking to a 6 year old sometimes. "I want to GOOOOO" "Go where?" "I dont know, I just want to GOOOOOO!!" "But we can't just go, we have to go to somewhere" "You're MEAN!"

Mistigri · 23/03/2019 19:42

Speaking as someone who was politically active for Labour during the Thatcher years - I thought Heseltine was the stand out speaker. Look what Brexit has done lol

lonelyplanetmum · 23/03/2019 19:42

... and 2bees and Courage!

Expert marchers I have to say! Were on time and didn't get lost unlike my other reprobates!
