A thread for those of us on the march today :)

Weather still looking good, (perhaps, possibly, even some sunshine?) temps around 12-14, a little gusty at times, cooling off in the evening, so bring an extra jumper if you haven't set off.

Travel safely and see you at the march!

I could not go but Flowers to all of you who did.

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/03/2019 16:35

I've teared up watching you all.

BBC news said could be 'up to a million' and certainly one of, if not the largest crowds ever. Also mentioned the Brexiteer march of approx 200.

Petition now past 4.4 million.

cherin · 23/03/2019 16:38

I saw the Brexiteer March! Ridiculous. More police than protesters.

MutantDisco · 23/03/2019 16:40

Just watched the footage. Wow! Totally amazing. Thanks to everyone who attended.FlowersWine

DGRossetti · 23/03/2019 16:48

We got there early to parliament square - people couldn't be nicer as I was just with my young child.

One of the most uplifting and inspiring elements of the marches we went on (DW didn't feel her health was up to it today) was the children - our future - taking part. Which - whatever side of the debate you are on - can only be a positive.

Well done, and thank you: one and all.

Gingerivy · 23/03/2019 16:50

I would have loved to go as we live in London, but my dcs wouldn't have coped with the crowds. We've been following the coverage today though and discussing all sorts of politics (both UK and US).

Well done to those of you that went!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 23/03/2019 16:50

And in the meantime the leavers are doing it the proper way by marching South from Sunderland to arrive for the 29th.

They have a bus

They get off the bus, go for a little march...then its back on the bus

cherin · 23/03/2019 16:57

At some point my 7 yo said:
We don’t need to read the news today, we ARE the news

Helbelle17 · 23/03/2019 17:01

We weren't able to be there today, but have been following the news. Proud to be British today, and thank you to everyone who marched.

euaremissed · 23/03/2019 17:04

DGrossetti it was truly humbling.

I was so amazed at how some very elderly people were there - despite obvious mobility issues and seeing grandparents with their young grandchildren was so sweet.

Can I shout out some of the people who made sure my little one had a wonderful view.

There was a very helpful camera crew and also 3 ladies (one of whom was from Leytonstone) who also checked on my little boy making sure he was warm and all ensuring he has a fantastic view.
The elderly lady who offered some lovely homemade sandwiches.

There was the policeman at Westminster who made sure to tell me at 11 am that the Westminster station was likely to close by 4 pm in case I wanted to make sure I could get back and plan my route.

The toilet attendant who took us directly in when I couldn't find any cash on me for coin entry toilets.

People couldn't really be nicer.

I am not originally from the UK and something I love is the British people who turned up and were so polite and kind to me and my boy.

I think with Brexit and all this anti immigration Right wing stuff was beginning to feel unwelcome. Not today so thank you ThanksThanks.

lonesomeBiscuit · 23/03/2019 17:06

Amazing spirit today! My first ever march. Joined huge crowd still setting off down Park Lane at 1.30pm. Two hours later we still hadn’t reached the official start, there were that many people making progress so slow. Great carnival spirit, heartening seeing so many spot-on placards.

My favourite placard contrasted the 2016 referendum (“remain” vs “insert your own free wish here”) with 2019 (“remain” vs “we can’t guarantee no-one will die”). Well done to all!

I peeled off at Hyde Park Corner to go home and was lucky enough to catch the end of the speeches in Parliament Square on my way back.

GabrielleNelson · 23/03/2019 17:09

Have not read thread yet. On way home. What a fantastic day! The signs were so good. All very good-natured. Glad I did it.

cherin · 23/03/2019 17:10

I think this image says it all. A toddler sleeping like a log on his dad shoulder, everyone around chanting (mostly “bollocks to Brexit”, eheheh), his face painted like a turkey, and dads placard: Christmas means Christmas.

I'm not sure it really counts as a march. It sounds like one of those guided coach tour holidays you can go on!

Just looked at the BBC's oddly titled 9 minutes in 9 seconds aerial shots of the march, and my heart swelled.

Thank you to every single person on and off MN who attended today (I was NHS on call 🙁).

What ever happens, you can hold your heads up with pride and know that you did what you could- and those images, beamed around the world, might mitigate slightly against what must be a growing belief that we are all ill-educated troglodytes.

Well done.
