Just wrote an intro and wiped it. So this is as quick as I can sum up.

EU response is extension to 22nd May if May passes her deal by 29th March

Or an unconditional extension to 12 April which could be extended with a plan and understanding to take part in EU elections.

This isn't what may wanted. It gives her less time and leverage

It opens up the possibility of her being ousted as PM in the next couple of days. Graham Brady asked her to quit on Monday. Remain Cabinet ministers are threatening to quit if May whips a vote to support no deal.

The talk is May has indeed flipped to supporting no deal with many think she's pretty much gone full on Colonel Kurtz.

The EU are in effect supporting parliamentary sovereignty and are being incredibly reasonable.

May now has to decide whether to accept.

The whole situation looks explosive and likely that one half of the cabinet or the other are on the brink of walking. And May's power is so shattered.

However she remains the gatekeeper and as it stands if she's hell bent on no deal, it will be extremely difficult for Parliament to prevent that.

Tom Watson is joining the march !

Tom Watson@tom_watson

Brexit is stuck in the parliamentary pipework.
The impasse works for neither Leavers or Remainers.

I have come to the reluctant view that the only way to resolve this is for the country to have the final say.

Tomorrow I will join the #PutItToThePeople march.

John Rentoull@JohnRentoul*

There are five practical options that could be implemented quickly:

1 No-deal Brexit
2 The withdrawal agreement and political declaration
3 WA with a permanent customs union in the PD
4 WA with a PCU and single market membership in the PD
5 Remain in EU

DoJ plane in London as Mueller report completed? Hmmm. And no sneak peak for Trump? Its almost as if the FBI are here to tell the British Secret Services something ahead of everyone else. Hmmm. Of course we don't know this. But if I had to place a bet...

I have come to the reluctant view that the only way to resolve this is for Jean Luc Picard to have the final say.

Seriously though, it is helpful to have Tom Watson on board and hopefully this will put more pressure on Corbyn.

TalkinPaece · 22/03/2019 22:26

@BigChocFrenzy
You do know that Tom Watson is a 5:2 poster don't you Grin
I've not worked out his name but comments in interviews show he knows who you are Flowers

BigChocFrenzy · 22/03/2019 22:30

Maybe Tom's a lurker ?

RedToothBrush · 22/03/2019 22:34

Times lead.

Timetable for May's departure being arranged.
DUP have lost all faith in her.
David Liddington effectively taken over and running the show now.

I’m still laughing at Winston Churchill’s spoon.

It comes to something when that’s not the maddest thing Ive heard this week.

The Guardian lead with the operation Yellowhammer story.

Where we are told

The classified document, seen by the Guardian, sets out the command and control structures in Whitehall for coping with a no-deal departure and says government departments will have to firefight most problems for themselves – or risk a collapse of “Operation Yellowhammer”.

“The … structure will quickly fall if too many decisions are unnecessarily escalated to the top levels that could have reasonably been dealt with internally …” the document says. It also concedes there are “likely to be unforeseen issues and impacts” of a no-deal Brexit that Operation Yellowhammer has been unable to predict.

h well that's reassuring.
(we are so fucked)

Just to remind you of the following information; The management skills of Chris Grayling, The Saj, Matt Hancock, Jeremy Hunt, Gavin Williamson, Liam Fox and Michael Gove are all that stand between us and total anarchy.

Just to report that we were driving down the M1 at the exact time of the threatened go-slow. And... nothing Smile

BigChocFrenzy · 22/03/2019 22:50

May still seems to be running Brexit, even if nothing else
I've been hoping that Liddington could take over

He's preferable to any of the usual contenders - he's sane, quietly competent, not nasty
He's May's (and my) age, so the others wouldn't worry he'd be there more than a couple of years
He might just be "annointed" to deal with Brexit & the aftermath

I know we thought back in 2016 that May would be a dull but safe pair of hands - whoops ! - but his record in various posts indicates he would be

He was my late mum's MP at one time and she said how nice he was in person - she was in the local party.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 22/03/2019 22:50

OK so someone I'm arguing with on fb about that Kent live article has just said the other places we import from, like Russia, the US and China, are on WTO rules already so there will be no difference after a no deal.. I know I shouldn't engage.. But really, he's wrong, yes?

woodpigeons · 22/03/2019 22:51

bigchoc thank you and yes I did.
Sorry for delay in replying but getting dgs ready for March tomorrow.
He's going in.my place.
I'll turn off soon and hope I can use iPad tomorrow.
I've just emailed Andrea Leadsom
[email protected]
I told her I wanted to be there to support revoke but unfortunately couldn't.
I didn't say I would be there in spirit like Farage's masses.

BigChocFrenzy · 22/03/2019 22:52

"The management skills of Chris Grayling, The Saj, Matt Hancock, Jeremy Hunt, Gavin Williamson, Liam Fox and Michael Gove are all that stand between us and total anarchy." 😱

I'm just getting ready for bed.
I'll have nightmares
...
then in the morning I'll have daymares

RedToothBrush · 22/03/2019 22:53

Tom Newton Dunn @tnewtondunn
With Theresa May's Premiership now in such serious jeopardy - some MPs think days away from ending - it's staggering not a single Cabinet minister has done any broadcast today to defend her. She's utterly alone.

In other words, it sounds like next week. Especially with the sound of that Times article.

But the zombie has carried on before.

The irony of truck drivers saying go slow, don't stock the shelves, that will make them think...

HesterThrale · 22/03/2019 22:57

Got my red toothbrush ready for tomorrow!

Also my Revoke placard. I think Revoke placards will be a thing tomorrow. Possibly as many as People's Vote signs.

Andrew Adonis is saying 'Revoke, pause, then a referendum with Remain and a deal as the choices'.

Sorry that I have such poor knowledge of the workings of government, but who leads the government if TM resigns?

RedToothBrush · 22/03/2019 23:04

Theresa May...

... At least initially in theory.

In practice it would probably be Liddington in the interim as Deputy PM if May was incapacititated in someway.

It sounds a lot to me, like that's almost where we are at. The rant at Parliament the other night shocked everyone as it put every MP at personal risk. It wouldn't surprise me if the Cabinet have quietly pulled the plug on her.

OP posts:
LarkDescending · 22/03/2019 23:04

Rory Stewart (when asked about the Times headline on Newsnight) has just said that he’d prefer TM to stay. But it was far from a ringing endorsement - rather that the crisis was about more than just one person and that getting rid of her wouldn’t solve it.

GroovieGazelloo · 22/03/2019 23:06

Just wondering if Uri could sort out a few stars for you whilst he's on the Brexit job.

Tr1skel1on · 22/03/2019 23:06

I have followed these threads for years, huge thanks to everyone who contributes, particularly Red.

I have one question that doesn't seem to have been covered so far...Where do Crown Dependencies fit in to this mess?

Living in one, that is right at the end of the logistics supply chain, I have a decent stockpile ready, but no information!

Can anyone more knowledgeable than me point me to some useful info? My local Govt website is as much use as TM....

LonelyTiredandLow · 22/03/2019 23:08

Catching up!

Wasn't Lord Barker mentioned before as someone US knew was being paid by the Russians and were baffled we had done nothing about?
Also Farage was said to be up for criminal wrongdoings around now (6 weeks ago? ish?). Hmmm, happy days!

Loving the snail logo on a Union Jack = showing the French how not to protest with aplomb!

I have not one but TWO red toothbrushes for tomorrow and a rather shabby placard. Excited!
