Westminstenders: Flextension

RedToothBrush · 21/03/2019 22:37

Just wrote an intro and wiped it. So this is as quick as I can sum up.

EU response is extension to 22nd May if May passes her deal by 29th March

Or an unconditional extension to 12 April which could be extended with a plan and understanding to take part in EU elections.

This isn't what may wanted. It gives her less time and leverage

It opens up the possibility of her being ousted as PM in the next couple of days. Graham Brady asked her to quit on Monday. Remain Cabinet ministers are threatening to quit if May whips a vote to support no deal.

The talk is May has indeed flipped to supporting no deal with many think she's pretty much gone full on Colonel Kurtz.

The EU are in effect supporting parliamentary sovereignty and are being incredibly reasonable.

May now has to decide whether to accept.

The whole situation looks explosive and likely that one half of the cabinet or the other are on the brink of walking. And May's power is so shattered.

However she remains the gatekeeper and as it stands if she's hell bent on no deal, it will be extremely difficult for Parliament to prevent that.

I'm under about three flight paths

DFs garage premises in Hounslow were directly under the Heathrow flight path, and 6pm Concorde would fly over ... a beautiful piece of engineering.

On a clear day, you'd see the planes line up along the A4 ... four in a row at peak times.

Cackleweb · 22/03/2019 17:30

The Guardian has published an article on some leaked Cabinet Office Operation Yellowhammer papers.

I think the overall impression is 'bugger'.

Saw the tweet and it’s probably not that one.
It seems to be going round in circles randomly.
Perhaps TM is escaping on it and can’t decide where to go.

DGRossetti · 22/03/2019 17:32

Getting serious for a minute, the only way that plane is going to take anyone anywhere against their will is with a valid warrant which will be subject to challenge in our courts. That's before you consider maintenance, re-fuelling (3 days Hmm) or that it was used to drop someone/something in the UK, or to collect something or someone (willingly) for onward travel ... wherever.

Or am I hopelessly underinformed ?

HepzibahHumbug · 22/03/2019 17:32

Stealth
With you.
And what happened to Brexit/constitutional crisis/march/petition which is why I'm following.
Rtb what's the significance? Can you explain/help?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 22/03/2019 17:34

But we DO NOT know why The Plane is here.

I'd wonder if it was for Banks tbh

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2019 17:34

I see, that's much clearer thank you

RedToothBrush · 22/03/2019 17:37

DGR it's been suggested that since the plane is still here it's more likely that someone is talking to someone here rather than having any intention of dragging them out of the country kicking and screaming.

Take your pick who that could be. It could be many people.

Several dodgy people in the Leave campaign who might have come to Mueller's attention
BUT
remember he is not interested in criminal activity in the UK,even Russian influence UNLESS it is a part of his investigations about certain people in the US

So, Mueller's investigtions may shed light on something that the UK Tory / Brexit establishment has chosen to cover up,
but they are no substitute for the independent UK enquiry, of the same vigour, that we desperately need (and won't get, of course)

Prosaic over primetime Grin

Alternatively it's here as a decoy, and somewhere else in the world a very extra ordinary rendition is happening ?

If it is here to enable some facetime, I'd be curious as to the cost-benefits of using it, rather than despatching the relevant person on the next Ryanair (or US equivalent). Unless the 737 grounding is biting ?

Sostenueto · 22/03/2019 17:40

3,420,786 signatures. So about 100,000 every few hours?

It seems to jump by about 100,000 every hour and a half ....
and the fact that all kids and teenagers are allowed to sign it if they have their own email address will help
its their future, they have a RIGHT to be heard

That said, it's nice when US investigations release information our own lords and masters try to hide. The recent revelations on the Jeremy Thorpe affair being one. (If I recall correctly there were similar issues over IRA intelligence the UK wished stayed secret that the US had to publish ?)

Trekkingbeyond · 22/03/2019 17:46

That Guardian article is sobering. I presume all brexiteers would just dismiss it airily. ... do they really consider none of it feasible?

TiddleTaddleTat · 22/03/2019 17:48

Pmk

Yamayo · 22/03/2019 17:50

Project Fear innit.

Trekkingbeyond · 22/03/2019 17:51

In their hearts do they really think all of it is Project Fear? That it has no basis in fact?

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2019 17:52

3.5 million. One fifth of the way there

TalkinPaece · 22/03/2019 17:55

A question .....

Several large manufacturers, such as car factories, scheduled two week shut downs for the first half of April so that they could judge how Brexit settled down ....

With the deal offered last night, a bad case Brexit will now be on April 12th - right at the end of their shutdowns.

Would I be right in thinking that much of industry is rather angry with Tresemme at the moment?

MrsPussinBoots · 22/03/2019 17:55

The M5 Brexit go-slow protest has just started and is already causing chaos around Exeter. Good luck to anyone travelling up from Devon and Cornwall for the March tomorrow.

Apileofballyhoo · 22/03/2019 17:56

One fifth of the way there Smile

I think someone upthread mentioned getting constant pop-ups. I can’t find the post as the constant pop-ups I’m getting mean I keep having to close the page. It only seems to be happening on mumsnet. Apparently from Sky on my phone and BT on my iPad. If I click close it just opens another page and I have to go back into mumsnet from scratch.

It’s happening constantly and driving me mad. Anyone else? And any ideas how to stop it?
