Westminstenders: Flextension

RedToothBrush · 21/03/2019 22:37

Just wrote an intro and wiped it. So this is as quick as I can sum up.

EU response is extension to 22nd May if May passes her deal by 29th March

Or an unconditional extension to 12 April which could be extended with a plan and understanding to take part in EU elections.

This isn't what may wanted. It gives her less time and leverage

It opens up the possibility of her being ousted as PM in the next couple of days. Graham Brady asked her to quit on Monday. Remain Cabinet ministers are threatening to quit if May whips a vote to support no deal.

The talk is May has indeed flipped to supporting no deal with many think she's pretty much gone full on Colonel Kurtz.

The EU are in effect supporting parliamentary sovereignty and are being incredibly reasonable.

May now has to decide whether to accept.

The whole situation looks explosive and likely that one half of the cabinet or the other are on the brink of walking. And May's power is so shattered.

However she remains the gatekeeper and as it stands if she's hell bent on no deal, it will be extremely difficult for Parliament to prevent that.

Hi Theresa, glad you found us. Hope you've got a nice Brew and we'lkl start at the beginning ...

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2019 16:55

Oh no I'm not quite that clueless :)

phpolly · 22/03/2019 16:56

Stealth check Twitter

RedToothBrush · 22/03/2019 16:56

well not at all, until an extradition request is presented

And you know one hasn't been presented?

Assange is being suggested on social media. I think this is a lot of wishful thinkin tbh.

Is anything much likely to.happen in Parliament now before Monday?

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2019 16:58

Ahh mueler report into Russian tampering into us election?. Still can't see any refs to plane but will have a dig thanks

OMGithurts · 22/03/2019 16:58

(Planes notwithstanding)

DGRossetti · 22/03/2019 17:00

It wouldn't really matter ... as far as I know Assange is still subject to a UK arrest warrant which is connected to the Swedish European arrest warrant - under which both Sweden and the UK must agree to any extradition to the US.

Of course if there US state department is as clued in as the UK home office, it's not impossible some US politician has been watching recent news and thinks the UK has left the EU and they can now snatch St. Julian ....

RedToothBrush · 22/03/2019 17:01

Who's Carol?

Why it's Carole the Crazy Cat Lady!
(^Andrew Neil's attack was intended as a slur to discredit her but I think she should take this as a compliment tbh, and I use it this context).

Carole Cadwalladr is the guardian journalist who has done all the stuff on Aaron Banks and Co and Cambridge Analystica. Her interest in the plane is just purely speculative. She had no idea what the significance of the plane was until it was explained to her, and her imagination then went into hyper drive. Just like just about everyone else's.

Not in parliament.

Outside Parliament in the press and Sunday shows... I don't expect it to be a quiet weekend for political positioning.

There will be lots of mud slinging and talk of amendments. God I'll be happy when all those are done and I don't have to try and figure wtf they are for.

woodpigeons · 22/03/2019 17:05

If anyone knows the registration number of the plane it can be checked on flight radar.

BigChocFrenzy · 22/03/2019 17:05

The backstop stays because the EU know they cannot trust any UK govt not to renege

If the UK had chosen the Norway++ solution from the start and behaved honestly, without reneging all the time,
we wouldn't ever have had a backstop

However, trust once lost is lost for a long time

DG wins mumsnet today.

RedToothBrush · 22/03/2019 17:08

What plane? There is nothing on the news about any plane. This is what I mean, I have literally no idea.

It's a 'secret' plane

Except if you follow flight radar or a twitter for plane spotters account like a nerd (there are a number that report on flight emergency alerts or unusual movements of interesting / important planes. Its a real 'thing')

So not on the news. But a niche thing on social media which because of its previous history and connection with Mueller mean this movement has gone rather viral.

DG 😂
No, it's not May, because she would be telling us how wrong we are
and that we are ruining Brexit just by talking about that plane ✈️

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2019 17:14

Please someone pm me with info about the plane. I can see stuff about the Mueller report but not a plane and not the link to Brexit. Other than everything is linked to Brexit at the moment

havingtochangeusernameagain · 22/03/2019 17:14

Changing the subject again - I don't think this has already been posted. Made me giggle:

Fabian Zuleeg@FabianZuleeg /European Policy Centre)

The EU's patience with the UK is at breaking point over Brexit

Written before yesterday's EUCO.

Arguably, the EU27 has now lost patience & trust entirely

This be 'The Plane'.

It being in the UK was picked up by journalist Jake Sherman from politico who follows its motives for signs of an interesting developing story. His thread was also commented on by a journalist who is a security expert, who referred to the airport the plane flew from (FBI related).

Also interestingly, wikileaks has taken an interest in it being in London. So hence twitter melt down and Carole getting very excited.

A bombardier global 6000 is on the ground at Luton.
There’s no info about where it came from or where it’s going and it isn’t on the flight arrivals list.
It’s a big business plane with a massive cabin.

BigChocFrenzy · 22/03/2019 17:20

I loved the comment:

"Nige, your lift is here" 😂😂

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2019 17:21

Thank you both

Cuddlysnowleopard · 22/03/2019 17:24

Ooh, I have a thing about plane spotting. I'm under about three flight paths, and I can spend hours, sitting in my hot tub, watching them on an air traffic app. I'll keep an eye out for it.

RedToothBrush · 22/03/2019 17:27

The link between Brexit and 'The Plane' is Mueller sniffing around Cambridge Analytica and Farage and Friends.

Brexit is part of the same cultural shift and stench of stuff which is really rather dodgy money and not very lawful nor democratic practices which seem to be happening in the UK and US simultaneously. And the same names and faces keep popping up.

Brexit is inextricably linked to Mueller for this reason. If Mueller does decide to persue anyone known to have been up to Dodgy Shit in the ref (remember the ICO and Electoral Commission stuff for starters), there's a MASSIVE can of worms for the UK to wade through.

Like off the scale stuff. Which is why The Plane is 'A Plane of Interest'.

But we DO NOT know why The Plane is here.

It could be taking the FBI for a training course. But I suspect not.
